Do you ever spare the life of another player?

Sometimes, when I'm in Cyrodil working a quest or a dungeon, I will unexpectedly run into a player from an opposing faction. There is a brief moment of awkward stillness as we size each other up, and then a realization that we are both on a similar mission, drawn from the same pool of humanity, in different factions by happenstance, and at the end of the day, both here to have fun.

And then of course I kill him. I'm wondering how others react in this situation.

Ok, I admit it. I'm surprised at the results. Probably shouldn't be, given the audience for this game. Now if this were the Wildstar forum ...

Can't Vote because it's situational. When I run lower level guildies through Cyrodil to get their Skyshards, we often run into Opposing faction players. If it's two, it is usually game on with their belief of strength in numbers. If it's a solo player, that I can tell is just their for the Skyshard.....I will wait, and let them choose to move on, or to have their organs be the base of my next finger painting masterpiece on a cave wall.

I mained Thief in WvWvW in GW2, that was my main PvP time. I only attacked if people attacked me or a friend, 9/10 I roamed alone anyway, was able to take out small zergs by myself by being one of the only fully geared Thiefs in the top tier WvWvW servers.

Most people just left me sleeping in the bush as they wandered past, if they did hit me, they died.

I haven't really been in Cyrodiil yet, mainly because VR people love butchering lowbies like me for the hell of it.
But since I'm generally a live and let live person, just like in every other mmo I've played, I won't be attacking actual players who don't seem to have homicidal intentions.

Really depends on situation and level of the player.

1: If they are a lot lower level then me ill likely only kill if they are engaged in PvP with another player.
2: If they attack me I kill them.
3: If they are just doing a quest I will ignore but will tempt them by acting like I went afk with Map open. Just waiting to see if they take the bait. If they do I kill them. (Most do lol)
4: If they are near my level I kill them.
5: If there are 2-4 of the opposing faction I attempt to kill them for the challenge. (iv killed up to 4 at once, but normally 3 or more kill me).
6: If there is more then 4 I pick them off one by one in hit and run tactics. Iv killed up to 6 players this way before.
7: If there are more then 8 I hide and hope they dont find me. Ill also ghost them and wait for a chance to kill them. If they engage 2 or more allies ill pop in and begin healing from a hiding position. 1 healer can go a long way for 2 dps to wipe a large force.

I usually leave them alone unless I'm protecting my own people, especially lower levels. Frankly, I pity the poor little pre-vets trying to quest in Cyrodiil. Killing them would be like punting a puppy.

I usually tend to just kill them on sight, even though I'm a PvE focused player. I don't dare to take the risk of ignoring an enemy/letting him or her walk away and then get shot in the back 5 seconds later by that same person. After reading this I might reconsider that in the future, as it seems like many people aren't as hostile as I expected, but it's still a risky thing to let an enemy live.

Depends on the situation. And it doesn't come up that often. Becuse I'm usually on a quest far from a spawn point, if they don't see me I avoid them. Even an easy fight can go south. I know because I once killed a sorcerer with my templar who got the drop on me while I was turning in a quest to an NPC. They were a low level, but I was a level 10.

Most players I've come across would not offer me any mercy. But if I encountered a solo player while questing far from the battle lines, and they don't start a fight, it's in my nature to let them go. Also not worth the risk of losing and having to walk back to where I was.

I used to be nice... however I have learned that you dont kill them first they will come back with an army. IF they are in a PvE zone surrounded by hostile NPCs then you can leave them but if they step out of bounds it is fair game.

However if you are VR12... and they are not you have the option to choose:)
    Indeed it is so...

It depends. If its a non vet I let them go. If its a vet and a sorc (I grew grudge against that class because of bolt escape spam) I usually kill them. But even then I would usually let them live. I usually think about how I would feel if I got ganked while trying to quest.

I spared a fella the other day. He was lvl 19 and I was vr12, stealthed and watching him. He tried to take on an npc resource guard and barley made it away from it alive. He was right next to me with a sliver of health left. I just let him walk off. No sport in that kill I guess.

Of course most of you would say kill him. It's written right here.

"The heart is deceitful above all things,
    And desperately wicked;
    Who can know it?

I, the Lord, search the heart,
    I test the mind,
Even to give every man according to his ways,
According to the fruit of his doings.

"As a partridge that broods but does not hatch,
    So is he who gets riches, but not by right;
It will leave him in the midst of his days,
And at his end he will be a fool.”

A glorious high throne from the beginning
Is the place of our sanctuary.
O Lord, the hope of Israel,
All who forsake You shall be ashamed.
    “Those who depart from Me
Shall be written in the earth,
Because they have forsaken the Lord,
    The fountain of living waters."

Hm, depends.... we may look at each other, jump, and decide to ignore us. But I'll watch my back, and if he does one wrong move, we'll be on each others throats.

In another game, we had such situations even in PVP Minigames 10 vs 10 vs 10 - that was weird, but fun. Sometimes it worked and we just danced, other times we started shooting. Or we danced, shot us in mistake and danced again. Until someone from third faction tried to attack us and we brought him down together *lol*

If I am in what I would consider a neutral zone I don't make the first move, so far I would say about 1 in 4 times that has been peace on both sides the other 3/4 I have been attacked.

By 'neutral' I mean Cyrodil quest hub locations and in & immediately around dungeons and dolmens.

Way I see it is, if they are doing missions in Cryodil they are either bored or need the quests for the achievement so I spare them. Nothing grates on me more when you get ganked getting a sky shard at low levels. Happened once on Hopesfire and after they killed me I then called out on zone and got them ganked back lol.

If its at a Castle or a Keep or a resource of course I'll PvP that's the whole point lol

ok why ? theres quests there so I think its rude to kill someone there once a member of another faction and I was not going to attack him or her and I got killed I think citys shoud be off limits for pvp put some blocker there so people can do quests main reason the respawn you have to travel all the way back from where ever your faction controls

that's the issue with PvEvP, if you die and have to travel all the way up from where your faction has a base it kills the questing (PvP Deaths as you can Soul Gem Revive from a PvE kill). I just dislike how a lot of other factions people including people in my own faction just go "Lol Newb" and go off and find another person who is just trying to get the damn misions done for XP/Achievement etc to kill

I dread to think how I'll ever get the Dolmens done lol and man I really want that title for beating all of them.

if its in a city I think they should have a respawn at entrance that and if they decided to let them kill you there they should aslo let you spawn at the enterance but it would be better to prevent them from attacking in a city period or they get jailed or executed if they ad the justice system and they have to respawn back at there player base with a 1 hour no using the fort travel or something like that or a big fine ap or gold wise
