Need advice dealing with groups of veteran trash mobs

I'm VR2 and doing a V2ish zone. I seem to be having the opposite problem as some. I'm doing fine with bosses, but any given group of three trash mobs is more of a challenge than it seems like it should be unless I'm able to use my ultimate. I survive typically, but only after a pretty tense fight and burning a full mana bar. If I get unlucky with lag or pull an additional mob, I can end up in real trouble.

I'm a templar, light armor, 0/49/0 using gear for magicka (close to softcap with drink), destruction/restoration staves.

I've tried using volcanic rune. That helps me get dots on them initially, but once the fight gets going, things get worse if I try to be too defensive. It seems like my best bet is to kill as quickly as possible. Spamming impulse (I'm using the fire ring morph) doesn't do enough damage.

I'm also playing a templar with 7/7 light armor and the same stat distribution as you.

The way I handle mob groups is:
    1. Volcanic Rune under the mobs
    2. Light attack + Fire Ring/Solar Barrage x 3 (You can skip the light attack but it helps to kill them a bit faster)
    3. Throw down another Volcanic Rune and repeat

That was how I started out. Nowadays I tend to skip the 2nd Volcanic Rune and just dps them down with AoE spells but it is still helpful to use the Volcanic Rune to minimise your incoming damage.

A Massive tip I can give you is to use the final skill in the resto staff skill line. Its currently buged and gives you +100% healing while its active on a target. This alone allows you to take any damage these mobs can dish out, assuming you dont get instantly killed. This is how most solo players are doing it at the moment.

    Goodluck!

I have that ability but I'm not sure what this "bug" is supposed to do. When you say "gives you +100% healing", is this something other than what the game already describes?

For example, at level 47 my templar character is supposed to have the following effect with Quick Siphon: "Nearby allies gain (21-23) Health [depending on gear and the like] and player gains an additional 100% health when attacking target, for 20 seconds." My VR6 dragonknight has a bit more magicka and the value is bumped to 28-30+ Health for the effect. So at 100% extra for the player's character that is either 42-46 Health (lvl 47 templar) or 56-60 Health (vr6 dragonknight). It helps, sure, but I am not sure how this is a bug or how it as amazing as some say? Or is it this one of those "it only happens to some players" kind of bugs and they are getting some other value for the Health return?

(My add-on to compare healing and attack values was disabled after 1.1.2 so I really don't know what actual values are being given when I use the ability yet, only the listed values under the skill tree screen. But the ability doesn't feel OP when I use it.)

That's where I'm coming from. I'm finding it less effective as I get into higher level VR mob groups. By the time I get that 3rd aoe off, I'm already way down on health. I can usually make it out alive using this technique, but I end up with no magicka left and about 20% health.

Yeah, I'm working on getting my resto staff up so I can use force siphon, but I'm sure that's going to get nerfed soon.
