Comparison of the games, what they offer etc. won't really mean a lot. The customer base will fall into a few general categories. Those that actually dislike ESO have already quit. Those that try most games will try WS etc as they come out no matter what they think of ESO. First timer of MMO's and fanbois will stick with ESO no matter what. There is a small percentage who like ESO but are frustrated with (insert dislike here) who may try another game and leave ESO because they like it better

Example. Over the years with every big name MMO release there is always the inevitable thread about it being "The WoW Killer". Of course none have any lasting effect on WoW. People leave a game because they dislike it or are simply bored after extended period of time. WS will have little effect on the players that are enjoying ESO. people may leave ESO for any number of other reasons however

It's a little disheartening to be labeled in with 'first timers' and 'fanbois', to be honest.

I'll stick with ESO. It has all the same problems of every other MMO out there, but I honestly feel the development team is responding far faster than I've seen anywhere else. I mean, the game has been out two months and we've gotten a solid bug-fix patch each week and one new content release already.

I also love the graphics and the lore. I don't know Zenimax from anyone else, and if I had my preference, I would enjoy the Dungeons-and-Dragons Neverwinter campaign setting more (but I'm not a fan of how Perfect World/Cryptic has handled things).

I've got no other MMO's that interest me on the horizon, and nothing but improvements to ESO to look forward to (I'm not under the impression that all development on ESO is going to stop, which so many others seem to have). And possibly a console move, if that looks entertaining enough.
Ruze Aulus. Mayor of Dhalmora. Archer, hunter, assassin. Nightblade.
Gral. Mountain Terror. Barbarian, marauder, murderer. Nightblade.
Na'Djin. Knight-Blade. Knight, vanguard, defender. Nightblade.

Ruze is a veteran of the PC Beta, lived through the year one drought, survived the buy-to-play conversion, and has stepped foot in the hells known as Craglorn. He mained a nightlbade when nightblades weren't good, and has never worn a robe. He converted from PC during the console betas, and hasn't regretted it a moment since.

He'd rank ESO:TU (in it's current state) a 4.8 out of 5, loving the game almost entirely.

This is an multiplayer game. I should be able to log in, join a dungeon, join a battleground, queue for a dolmen or world boss or delve, teleport in, play for 20 minutes, and not worry about getting kicked, failing to join, having perfect voice coms, or being unable to complete content because someone's lagging behind. Group Finder and matchmaking is broken. Take a note from Destiny and build a system that allows from drop-in/drop-out functionality and quick play.

And if by WoD you mean World of Darkness, please note that CCP cancelled that project, last I heard.

LOL, hardly anyone outside of people who follow the doings of CCP even knew World of Darkness was still a thing until they recently cancelled the project and it hit the news. No, WoD refers to Warlords of Draenor, the upcoming WoW expansion, a bit behind schedule but allegedly to be released this fall.

Well, considering all the people constantly begging for "Vanilla servers" for WoW, we'll see how many of those actually stick with Wildstar for giving them that "old-school WoW" feeling.

Maybe it will work for them - it seemed like it would have a ton of buttons to bind and could be grindy enough for those who equate grind with difficulty.

Might be interesting to see how things shake out by the time WoD gets released.

Edit - in fact, Blizz might even be a little worried about Wildstar, which is why they're going in such a weird direction with WoD.

I'm really feeling old right now. The comment 'old-school WoW' is kinda turning my stomach a little, hehehe ....

And if by WoD you mean World of Darkness, please note that CCP cancelled that project, last I heard.

Warlords of Draino, the WoW expansion.

Yes, I have a hard time with it too; I still have my 2nd ed W:tA set (with a couple of first edition books, and one or two Revised.) As far as White Wolf IPs go, I remember them swearing up and down that they'd never license their stuff again after what Aaron Spelling did to their Kindred on TV. (It really was quite obscene; the Vampire developer, he didn't seem the least bit pleased. That old mailing list was fun.)

Bad wording on my part. I should have added "those who actually like ESO" as part of the discussion and left out fanboi which is more of a forums situation. As for first timers, we all remember how much we loved our first MMO

Widlstar is a really crappy game right now. I think the devs know this to an extent and are getting a lot of NCSoft pressure to money grab the initial launch based on hype (and now badmouthing). I don't anticipate Wildstar to go f2p, and it will survive because it appeals to a minute childish audience, but I'll check back on it in a few years to see if it's improved personally.

Hated cartoony graphics. Which is why I never played wow other then the few times but couldn never get into it cause fo those graphics.

This is why Warhammer online was my frist MMO.

Stuck with it untill it died. The art style, the RVR, the PVP. AMAZING. Although the game kinda went downhill once ea bought mystic.

After that I went to Rift and played for a while but after so often I would get bored of it and leave for a couple months to come back and such.

I aso played SWTOR. I liked it but didn't play it as much as i should have. I loved grouping aspect. PVP whatever they where called in SWTOR. The hut ball game was fun. :P It's an ok game but im not really much into scy fi space type game. (maybe is it was mass effect i would have been)

ESO I will stick with till it either ends or goes to FTP. Which I hope will be never. ESO has so much potential I just hope the devs realize that. Don't ignore the communtiy and explain to us your plans like you guys have been doing.

As for wildstar I woun't even touch the game. The graphics, the races, and the classes, no thank you.

ESO is the first MMO I have played since WoW when it first came out. I am playing ESO because it is an Elder Scrolls game, not because it is an MMO. It will not be another MMO that leads me away from ESO, but the next single player game that I get sucked into - Watch Dogs is soooo tempting me, but I'll probably wait for a future Steam sale and keep playing ESO for a while longer. It might very well be the next ES game that takes me away from ESO.

Having said all of that, I am an early investor in Star Citizen, and I suspect that when it is released the amount of time I have for any other game - or life, for that matter - will be greatly reduced.

And with motifs becoming more common, why buy them??

I reference 'cartoons' by ultra-bright colors, awkwardly sized character models, over the top weapons and armor models (seen a shield one time bigger than the character itself). Low polygon count to make the game playable on older machines.

Mostly, though, it's the color scheme and characters, the graphics, not necessarily the content.

Even by my line, SW:TOR lost my interest by looking too cartoonish for my tastes.

Well, I spent 80 bucks to buy the it and the game is not as bad as some go on about , its actually quite a good game except for some bugs etc and 15 bucks a month is nothing really, some people spend more then that in a day on coffees ( I know because I used too lol).

If I really hated it then I guess I would quit but I find that if i play reasonable amount of time say 2 to 3 hours I generally enjoy myself but when I play for long periods of time like 12 hours straight the questing starts to get to me lol. So now I "try" to only play tops 5 hours a day.

I think alot of these power lvls just burn them selves out and then have nothing left to do but cry about this or that.

First off ESO is not a strong or even a good mmo. ESO is a victim of its own hype and press. ESO does have a solid and well liked story line. ESO does look AWESOME when working. Some very bad choices were made along the line and the resulting C.F. has almost ruined the mmo and now has an issue of fighting bad press in the market. 4 million hits on you webpage is well 4 million hits that doesn't mean your bullet proof nor does it mean your ready to release. Someone did the math of 4million x 60 bucks x15 a month and pulled the trigger. The lists of problems/crashes and shutdowns is well known. I bought early release and in right outside of daggerfall the monster made itself known. NPC's speaking german on an English server? after 4 years of development and months of beta? ZO embarrassed itself and its staff looks bad. The Geman speech was the warning bell of everything that followed. I wondered to my self if the QA team still had jobs and surely the project manager and his team were all unemployed by now or soon to be. Whats the point? we have to see of ZO can save itself of if we will find ourselves posting in new forums on another new mmo.

I'm talking about art style. ESO's art style in the game is not cartoony. My definition of cartoony would be wow of wildstar. I don't like games that look cartoony. just because you can be a cat, lizard, or werewolf doesn't make a game cartoony. There's another word for that and I think it's called fantasy.

I do not think ESO as currently designed has enough mass appeal to become a great game. It will lose more subs, and thus, it will lack the funding to bring it into greatness.

It has two niche players that don't have much in common: the solo RPG quester, and the realm pvp'er. At this time, the realm pvp'er (the more typical player in the MMO genre) holds his nose through all the questing, or skips it entirely and grinds mobs to max level - in order to pvp. The solo RPG quester plods through the utterly unending single player questing content happy to experience every nook and cranny of lore.

The typical MMO player - that likes to advance doing a little of everything, especially group content - will discover that the game does not support this most typical MMO playstyle, and will most likely cancel and keep checking back to find out if the devs have taken their collective heads out of their .... coffee cups.

In short, the current recipe is likely to find only limited success in this gaming genre.

On the good side, one of the major complaints people people currently have about ESO wont show up in some of these other games. Like the bots! I mean this is ZOS first mmo, clearly they were completely unprepared for bots and hackers! A tried and true MMO developer like NCSoft is certain to have the software needed to stop gold sellers, bots, and hackers dead in their tracks. Every one on the forums keeps saying how easy it is, after all.

Just as soon as Zenimax gets their act together and gets all the major bugs/exploits/ mass amount of bots taken care of, I think then, the players will start coming back.

I for one unsubbed because it feels like they have no clue what they are doing, their patches really don't fix much for as long as they take the server down, they break stuff that worked, exploits galore in pve and pvp.

If they get this taken care of sooner, rather than later, im sure they will do just fine.

TL;DR Zenimax needs to get their "poop in a group."
