Once Wildstar goes F2P, I may give it a try.

First timer of MMO's and fanbois will stick with ESO no matter what. There is a small percentage who like ESO but are frustrated with (insert dislike here) who may try another game and leave ESO because they like it better
Example. Over the years with every big name MMO release there is always the inevitable thread about it being "The WoW Killer". Of course none have any lasting effect on WoW. People leave a game because they dislike it or are simply bored after extended period of time. WS will have little effect on the players that are enjoying ESO. people may leave ESO for any number of other reasons however
Ruze is a veteran of the PC Beta, lived through the year one drought, survived the buy-to-play conversion, and has stepped foot in the hells known as Craglorn. He mained a nightlbade when nightblades weren't good, and has never worn a robe. He converted from PC during the console betas, and hasn't regretted it a moment since.
He'd rank ESO:TU (in it's current state) a 4.8 out of 5, loving the game almost entirely.

Maybe it will work for them - it seemed like it would have a ton of buttons to bind and could be grindy enough for those who equate grind with difficulty.
Might be interesting to see how things shake out by the time WoD gets released.
Edit - in fact, Blizz might even be a little worried about Wildstar, which is why they're going in such a weird direction with WoD.
I'm really feeling old right now. The comment 'old-school WoW' is kinda turning my stomach a little, hehehe ....

It's a little disheartening to be labeled in with 'first timers' and 'fanbois', to be honest.
I'll stick with ESO. It has all the same problems of every other MMO out there, but I honestly feel the development team is responding far faster than I've seen anywhere else. I mean, the game has been out two months and we've gotten a solid bug-fix patch each week and one new content release already.
I also love the graphics and the lore. I don't know Zenimax from anyone else, and if I had my preference, I would enjoy the Dungeons-and-Dragons Neverwinter campaign setting more (but I'm not a fan of how Perfect World/Cryptic has handled things).
I've got no other MMO's that interest me on the horizon, and nothing but improvements to ESO to look forward to (I'm not under the impression that all development on ESO is going to stop, which so many others seem to have). And possibly a console move, if that looks entertaining enough.

After reading this 'article', I could only conclude one thing: last minute hype grab from 'other' MMOs via badmouthing. Great business approach.
Widlstar is a really crappy game right now. I think the devs know this to an extent and are getting a lot of NCSoft pressure to money grab the initial launch based on hype (and now badmouthing). I don't anticipate Wildstar to go f2p, and it will survive because it appeals to a minute childish audience, but I'll check back on it in a few years to see if it's improved personally.

This is why Warhammer online was my frist MMO.
Stuck with it untill it died. The art style, the RVR, the PVP. AMAZING. Although the game kinda went downhill once ea bought mystic.
After that I went to Rift and played for a while but after so often I would get bored of it and leave for a couple months to come back and such.
I aso played SWTOR. I liked it but didn't play it as much as i should have. I loved grouping aspect. PVP whatever they where called in SWTOR. The hut ball game was fun. :P It's an ok game but im not really much into scy fi space type game. (maybe is it was mass effect i would have been)
ESO I will stick with till it either ends or goes to FTP. Which I hope will be never. ESO has so much potential I just hope the devs realize that. Don't ignore the communtiy and explain to us your plans like you guys have been doing.
As for wildstar I woun't even touch the game. The graphics, the races, and the classes, no thank you.

Maybe they want it to go F2P. There is a lot of money to be made with the F2P model.
Nothing to buy, F2P model requires a reason to spend cash.
Well, folks are buying gold like its going out of style, else we'd not be seeing so many obvious bots about.

No offense meant but playing a cat, lizard or a werewolf isn't 'cartoony'? I beg to differ.

I reference 'cartoons' by ultra-bright colors, awkwardly sized character models, over the top weapons and armor models (seen a shield one time bigger than the character itself). Low polygon count to make the game playable on older machines.
Mostly, though, it's the color scheme and characters, the graphics, not necessarily the content.
Even by my line, SW:TOR lost my interest by looking too cartoonish for my tastes.

I do not think ESO as currently designed has enough mass appeal to become a great game. It will lose more subs, and thus, it will lack the funding to bring it into greatness.
...
In short, the current recipe is likely to find only limited success in this gaming genre.
