I submitted a ticket today: 140528-008477, explaining everything I have done and still cannot see them. Yes OpenGL works but the CPU hit and graphics are unacceptable for me. I have a top end graphic card and system and the game did work BEFORE the 1.1.2 update.

@Seravi‌, may I ask what model your graphic card is and what OS are you using? If your OS and hardware supports DX11 you should not have a problem. But, if you are running Windows XP, using a graphics card that does not support DX11, or if you have your eso.exe set to XP compatibility then you will not be able to run in DX11.

It seems that @ZOS_JessicaFolsom‌ knows what the issue is so hopefully they can fix it soon.

I did test some more with OpenGL and you are right it is horrible for performance. But, I guess in a pinch someone could use that to get through a spot where they need to see ghosts.

@JasonSilverSpring , I am running Windows 7 Ultimate and yes my card supports DX11 as I run it with all my other games. The card is NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680. :)

I will use OpenGL if I have to on quests that require I see dead people. :) Hopefully it will get fixed soon. Thanks for trying to help!

@JasonSilverSpring, I've never had to do this before and don't know why I forgot to even look at this. I went to the eso.exe to see what compat mode it was running in as I didn't set anything. I set that to Win 7 and changed DX9 to DX11. Jury is still out on if this is going to work for me. I am crossing my fingers and toes that this works and I don't black screen crash anymore.

I've had one "unknown error" crash and in towns is a bit jerky trying to move around forcing it to run Win7 which iirc that is forcing 32 bit. Don't like how it runs in cities as the movements are jerky. Will have to see how this goes.

After reading everything, it looks like I'm just sol since I cant use dx11 then? I tried openGL but some of the graphical things it did drove me nuts, I guess I will just have to live without being able to see transparent things..

even dx 9 can show transparent stuff. tehre is an bug somewhere at the engine.
At dx9 thsi gosts sould be rendered by an other way.
btw.: tells you: XP is dead.
Well. It is hard to uve lowlvl esourche support these days.

So, I fixed my blobs with the switch to DX11, but like other nvidia users, I get crap performance with DX11 compared to how I was able to play pre-patch.

I spent many long sessions through beta and EA and the first month. Sometimes I was in game almost all day long. I was able to pop around to various mules for banking and all was done with little performance issues.

Now, post-patch, I am unable to play much longer than 30 minutes.

Whatever changed sucks for me. I wish I was able to get the same performance as before, I honeslty care little for how pretty the game is, I am a child of the 70's so pretty much anything looks good to me, I just want it to run cleanly.

this is same problem i am having. and as i remember, during instalation it said (now instaling dx11) so i know for a fact its not on my end. it was something that zenimax did in this last patch because i was having more then awesome performance untill this last patch. i have been here since early beta last september.

i can only last about 20 - 30 minutes before i have a major crash that takes out not only eso but completely reboots my PC. im getting scared that i will end up with a worm or virus if this keeps happening.

I think we all agree here that something got messed up with the 1.1.2 patch and @ZOS_JessicaFolsom‌ has stated they are working on it.

I do hope you get your issues sorted out so you can get into the game and use that anger towards some monsters.

@Kahlar‌, I am glad someone is finding this thread helpful.

It is an interesting trend developing of people with proper software and hardware for DX11 having their ini file set to DX9. @ZOS_JessicaFolsom‌ you might want to check on that. My ini file always had D3D11 in it from even the beta days. I only changed it to D3D9 when I was using the 3D Vision fix since it only worked with DX9. For someone like Kahlar and others that have posted with DX11 hardware I wonder why the game seemed to automatically downgrade to DX9.

    how bout this,
from now on allow zenimax employees to answer peoples questions when it comes to technical issues and allow zenimax to openly come forward with information about other people instead of trying to point the finger of whether or not you think some one has issues.

it's not your place to point out if you (through text) think some one is angry or upset or as you say (has issues)

i do not for one second think your apology is real, nor do i think your telling the truth that you meant no insult. if you had read back through the last few pages of this thread you would know that what i stated was not me alone. many people have been crashed and had thier computer rebooted.

while you may be the greatest expert in all known issues world over in all computer techknowledgy and you may even be an expert in forums it is not your place to instruct people nor direct people on technical issues that do not involve you. this issue is between the customer and zenimax.

while zenimax does promote helping people in the forums, that would include a lack of rudeness and a direct attempt to make other forum users feel comfortable in your responce and direction as in saying something supportive that makes the person feel like your not trying to gain anger from them but rather actually trying to help.

I've found a temporary fix for this issue, assuming you have a DX11 compatible card.
I had actually set my game to DX9 to test out SMAA (still doesn't work), and was surprised to find forcing it to DX11 in UserSettings seems to fix it.

    itWg5GC.jpg
    • Navigate to " C:\Users\YOURUSER\Documents\Elder Scrolls Online\live" (or liveeu if you play on EU megaserver)
    • open "UserSettings.txt"
    • search (Crtl+F) for "SET GraphicsDriver.7"
    • change D3D9 to D3D11

If your card is not DX11 compatible you can also try "OpenGL" but, at least on my system, it takes a massive performance hit.

Thanks Willock, I can see the frost atronach again

My luck I have a DX11 compatible card.

On a side note, it seems the game graphics load faster in crowded areas after I set the DX11 fix above, it was really laggy after craglorn, I will either edit or make a new post on this thread if the things change more.

Yes, this worked for me as well by changing it from D3D9 to D3D11 and compat. from xp to win 7.
Thanks all for the input and help.

Could we please keep this thread from devolving further, thank you.
On a side note: I finally managed to trick dx11 into working with my OS, and after manually setting the D3D11 thing, I now see ghosts and other transparent effects again.
However I believe the issue should still be seriously looked at, considering the plethora of problems related to it and the fact that dx9 worked perfectly up until that recent patch.

Odd. Because what I see is someone asking you a simple question in order to help you....
Are you monitoring your CPU and GPU temperatures? Overheating might be causing that.

    And you responding with hostility...

It doesn't matter if you are sick of the question. The person was not being rude to you, they were trying to help. You on the other hand were being extremely rude. You could have simply said "no, that isn't it", or simply not responded. but you chose to lash out.

Btw, a computer being "brand new" does not mean that it cannot have problems. I work in IT and see computers fresh out of the box have serious issues. Did you even check, or were you just assuming because it is new? No need to respond. I'm asking for your benefit, not mine.

The vast majority of the help you get with problems will come from the community. If you only want official responses, to each and every problem you have, you could be waiting a very long time.

I too have been having this same issue. Its not so bad with npcs cause they kind of glow but for monsters it is impossible to know they are there until they begin attacking you.

I thought it was just a graphic setting. But now that Im seeing so many people having the same issue now. It seems it is a result of the patch. For this only began happening since the craglorn patch.

Then behind the game is a nice pop up that my graphics driver has crashed. Before anyone says update, I have tried so many it isn't funny and so have many, many other NVIDIA users. Game ran just fine before 1.1.2 even though I had to run DX9 to make ESO and NVIDIA happy. I have memtested my system, tested the CPU, done FULL drive wipes and reinstalled the entire OS for every single driver I tried and all with the same results. I don't have ANY other programs or games on the entire system just so ZOS can't say, "Oh it has to be this or that then". :( ZOS says run D3D9 fine that is grand but now I cannot see the ghost/projections...blah...

Yesterday I forced eso.exe to run Win 7 and then changed D3D9 to D3D11. I had two very hard crashes that caused me to reboot the system both times. I am out of ideas.

Are you running the game in single monitor or is it displaying across 2? If 2 try running it on a single monitor in both windowed fullscreen and full screen modes.

@Mablung, I am running it on one monitor and I have to run it windowed full screen because of the NVIDIA black screen bug. Can't run it full screen. :(

CS replied to my ticket and said to change DX11 to DX9. Umm.... lol just lol. I swear they do not read these tickets.

So as it stands right now I have to run DX9 until I have a quest where I need to see projections. Then I will need to log out, change DX9 to OpenGL, log in and do the quest. Then log out and go back to DX9. The reason I use OpenGL is it allows me to see the projections without crashing. Graphics are yucky and CPU usage is crazy but it gets me through the quest. What I won't do to play this game..ugh.. :)
