Unusable Skills when Fighting Mobs

This happens from time to time and will get me killed quite often.

When fighting a mob I will randomly be unable to use any skills on my keybinds (I have tried manually pressing them with the mouse pointer, bit hard to do in this game though).

At first I thought maybe the mob is silencing me, but it's not. I have to walk (can't run as unable to use any skills) away from the mob in hopes of not dying. I can Block, so I walk backwards and block the entire time till it resets. Shortly after I can walk normally again, too. At this point I know I'm out of combat and can go fight the mob again and usually I'm fine at this point.

Here's the odd part. I am not an WASD player, at all. I'm a long time gamer and have always used the Arrow keys and bind all of my spells around those keys, most of which are on the NumPad keys. (blame the 80s games!)

So the other day speaking with a friend of mine he mentioned his guild mate was having this exact problem and said "he doesn't use the arrow keys, but does use the NumPad keys, and he too is unable to use any skills until out of combat"

There is a problem that's causing this when pressing the NumPad keys within the game that locks down all of your skills until you are dead, or out of combat. (if you die you're stuck in Walk mode only and the Walk Mode keybind doesn't make you walk normal, you have to log out and back in to fix that additional part of the bug).

Zenimax - Please help research this bug, please. It's a really annoying one.

    This happens to me every once in a while as well. I am using WASD but changed many of my skill bar keys to be a bit easier than 1-4(tab, q, e, r, f...) but I am not sure it the changing of key bindings is the problem. It seems like the game gets thrown in a loop and does not respond. Mouse buttons also stop working for me, however I am able to turn with mouse look. I have found that pressing esc twice fixes this, and my skill keys become responsive again.

    On a side note, one of the times this happened, I continued to press keys without game response and ended up getting logged out from the game with an error message like "you have tried to chat too often". I assume this was something put in place to combat the gold sellers spamming zone chat, but I was not entering anything in chat when I got kicked or the other times when the game when unresponsive to skill commands.

    That's quite interesting, and possibly this is not tied down to the NumPad keys then. I have also (obviously) changed a lot of my keybindings as well.

    I have the same Issue and just reportet this Thread for the Bugreport inGame.

    Thanks for the 2x ESC trick. Died all the time now because of that and ESC trick helps.

    I have the same issue. Got to open/close the map to make it work again, can`t use any skill.

    Opening and Closing the map fixes it (still comes back later). Thank you for the trick. Now if they read this I hope it's patched very soon.

    I don't know if this will bump this but....

    I still have this issue at times. I was also wondering if this issue is related to another that happens when you open a window--loot, map etc--and mouse look turns off so you can use your curser to click on and examine things. But when the window closes mouse look does not turn back on; you are still stuck in 'curser mode' until you open and close a window or start to move. The issue there is that even though you can move, you can only go in one of the 4 compass points. This can also happen when you are running/mounted and open, say, the map. When you close that window mouse look doesn't return and the only way to get it back (without logging/reloadui) is to stop, open another window and then start up again. And yes, it gets worse the longer you are on.

    @guenfang6b14_ESO Well, I kind of have that same problem at times myself, no luck either. I have had this happen when using a Wayshrine

    As for the starting of this thread - this bug still exists within the game and still tied down to Rapid Strikes and losing the ability to use skills.

    Same for on my NB, WASD user, but I don't notice it as much on the DK, happens atleast once every night on my NB.

    what irritates me is when I happen to get to high in level in an area I happen to be playing in, and suddenly my Ultimate no longer charges.

    I left the Harborage level 30 till I was 37 (you'd think it would be easy at that level) aaaannndddd now I can't get any loot or charge my Ulti... fantastic...

    finally kill the snake doppelgänger of titanborn, and receive nothing for it...
    I love this game, but sometimes I hate this game...

    I was getting this a lot last night as I was playing. Before the patch, I could take 2 or 3 trash mobs with no problem on my sorcerer, but now I really worry about fighting 3 mobs because the skills just won't fire off. I find myself dying more often while yelling at the screen, "just do something already!" as I mash skill keys.

    I have the new drivers not sure how graphic drivers will help with ability lock or lag as I call it.

    But this happens to me all the time with my NB duel welding on the 2nd skill flurry morp into rapid strikes.

    I press the key and nothing also remapped the key also remapped the key back and put the skill on at different key still same thing.

    I think its some stealth nerf with being able to use ability's cool down or something.

    I get the abilities seeming to freeze thing quite often lately, but my keyboard and mouse stopped responding completely yesterday, my char just kept on running till she got stuck in a corner.

    Couldn't even control alt delete, had to hit the power button and let the rig shutdown.

    This would happen a lot to me when fighting in mobs (3+ enemies). I would become completely useless and not able to do anything. I will try the esc or open/close map trick to see if it helps.

    My character was also a Nightblade.
    Far too many characters to list any more.

    Hmm maybe it's a NB skill/animation thing then, 3+ enemies sounds about right for me too, or a whopping great mammoth :p

    Sadly drivers would not cause this. This is the game client bugging out. Thankfully ESO is watching and listening to the complaints about it. I will admit it doesn't happen as often, but boy when it does you feel like a noob sitting down at a keyboard.

    Not just NB. The skills becoming unusable happens on my sorcerer as well. The issue with mouse look/curser mode after opening a game window happens to all my characters. This may be a hard one for them to track as it does seem very random. I can go all night without either happening but then all of a sudden I log in and it's there right away. le sigh

    I've noticed this or a similar problem at odd times - not got enough incidents to be sure what's happening though.
    'Clever' sigs get old real fast - just like this one.
