Frame rate doesn't reach above 60

Hi,

Here are my system specs:
-i7-2600
-GTX 780
-16 gb RAM

This should be plenty to max out ESO (and I max it out), however my FPS doesn't go above 60 (Vertical Sync is off). Is this game just badly optimized?

Why do you need it higher than 60? The human eye cant tell the difference after 34 fps. So anything higher than 34 fps is unnecessary

Since you get more or less my FPS (and I have an inferior system but with ATI) I would check if you aren't forcing VSync through nvidia control panel or if they have better drivers

considering the human eye can only see 24 fps, does it really make that much difference?

GTX660
4gb RAM

I also max out the game and I never notice any stutter in my FPS. Except lag, but that's connection not my rig. So I don't think the game is badly optimized, not for my hardware anyway. My PC is a dinosaur...

This whole "human eye" thing is made up. I love it how people claim they are experts and say the "human eye cant see above 24 or 30fps".

Here, do you remember those old CRT monitors? Ever have them on 60hz and you can see the flickering? But on 75hz refresh rate it is gone? Congrats, you can see above 30fps.

Some MMOs are capped at 60 FPS. Using Google will yield a ton of links.

Yes, it is largely optimization. Your only option to try to squeak out a little more is update your Nvidia driver - I did this yesterday, and was able to edge out a little more. Though, it really was unnecessary.

Personally, I found this game to be obscenely well optimized.

I actually found myself greatly respecting the balance of optimization vs beauty. THe way they "fake" depth on textures so elegantly, and balance DoF and sundry to require very little resources.

Personally, I have a system that could take much more of a beating than ESO offers, but I respect their efforts in catering to mainstream computers.

It could be that they cap FPS at 60, I'm not sure, as I always use vertical sync. Having said that, it's not a great idea to run without VSync. If your FPS is jumping between 200 and 45, you're going to see stuttering. It's a case of "bigger isn't always better".

Aren't LCD or LED monitors capped at 60fps? Is there any need to go higher if your monitor won't display it? Or are you using an old CRT?

This is blatant misinformation. Humans do not perceive the world in frames per second. What is more, there are many tests you can find online that show players able to differentiate between 30 fps, 60 fps and even beyond.

I play on a 120 Hz monitor. Comparing 30 fps to 60 fps is night and day. 60 to 120 is not as extreme, but even that is noticeable. It just feels so much smoother.

To the OP's question, I'm on an i5 2500k and a GTX 770. I average about 45 fps in cities, 50-60 in the wild, and above this in-doors. I've hit 100 in a few buildings. I'm not sure why you couldn't past 60. Make sure vertical sync is disabled in your nvidia settings.

There are many monitors that can now display 120 hz, even up to 144hz.

I usually get around 40fps and it goes to around 30 in towns and 80 in buildings.

In Pvp however during keep battles and stuff on max I usually get about 10 or crash; on the minimum settings I get 20 at the most. I wish I had a better framerate so I could really enjoy the pvp

i get around 80+ unless im in PvP then it can drop down to 30 and if its a huge battle, then below, my specs are:
FX8150@4.6Ghz
GTX670@1189Mhz

I'm getting 60-80 usually, I'm happy with that

GTX 680
16gig RAM

I wish I could tweak the FOV though, I like to play in FP view but if I'm exploring I have to pull out to TP view as I keep feeling I can't see enough, and it makes my eyes roll constantly looking around in FP view lol, but I'm probably just being picky, I'm loving the way the game looks and runs for me

For me fps variates from high like 90 to low as 35 on crowded areas buts its mainly because gaming graphical settings.

You may also want to check the specs on the cable you are running to your monitor. I'm not sure what the limits are for lower resolutions, but I have been looking at 4k stuff recently, and Display Port is the only cable that can carry a 4k signal at 60hz. A single-link DVI-I cable can support up to 1920x1200 @60hz, whereas a dual-link DVI-I cable can support up to 2560x1600 @60hz. If you need to go any higher than that, you'll want to go with a Display Port cable, assuming your video card has an output for it.

The game is just fine.

Running a I5 4670k @ 4.3GB a GTX 770 with 8GB ram and get 80-100 fps questing and running around. Goes down to about 50-60 in some larger cities and can go below in large pvp battles. All video settings are at their max.

I'd look at your pc before blaming the game, are drivers up to date? Nvidia settings outside of the game? What other resources is your computer using in the background.

Something else is impeding your system...Running a GTX 750 and get 60+ without issue, even when all heck is breaking loose.

As far as 'Cap,' it depends on your hardware (primarily your monitor). LED/LCD's used to have slower response times. Often, this is no longer the case.

Look at your response time (in ms) as well as the refresh rate. The one without the other will not give you an accurate view of what your monitor is capable of.

Many monitor manufacturer's will also have a number they assign to allow you to compare different models. This will indicate relative performance, taking into account refresh rate, as well as the time it takes for a pixel to go from Full white to full black and back again. This number will often give you a better indication than the individual specs alone.

There's little reason for the manufacturer to fake this, as it's only valid among their own models.

Higher cost does not necessarily mean better monitor...it often just means more connection options (more inputs, etc.)

Regardless of specs, your own view (literally) is often the best way to judge. I've seen $150 monitors that looked 10 times better than their 'better' $400 counterpart.

It's called v-sync. Disable it in video settings. If you are still capped, change your windows profile settings - some of those a v-sync component.

Yes? Then why playing at 60fps is much different than playing at 30fps?
Because this "anything higher than..." thing is made up.
