Swallow soul is not dot, but for for some reason it is often bugged, the health return should be 25% but it is like 5%. I hit mob for 250 and the health return tic is 8 WTF.
Just an idea here. Are you by any chance affected by shadow barrier when it doesn't work well (you know, the increased armor and resistance when you come out of invisibility)? I have a feeling that we simply resist our own healing sometimes. That would explain the case with leeching strikes as well. Magicka and stamina are not affected by resistance but health is. Just a hunch but I cannot test it since I'm out of town for the weekend.
Tryed both with shadow barrier buff on and off, and nothing changed. with some mob health return is correct , with others isn t.
Before last patch it only happened sometimes, but now really often.

Current:
"Deals XXX Magic damage and heals player for 25% of the damage inflicted every 2 seconds for 10 seconds."
New
"Deals XXX Magic damage. Every 2 seconds for the next 10 seconds, the player will be healed for 25% of the final damage amount inflicted."
This new tooltip, while slightly longer, will cover two major points of confusion: not only is it not a Damage-Over-Time ability, but it also only heals 25% of the final amount of damage done (instead of 25% of the listed amount in the tooltip). The difference is that that heal may be adjusted upwards in the case of a crit, or far downwards in the case of a mob/players damage mitigation.
At VR4, this is giving me a listed value of 280 damage for 263 magicka cost. Even if this is a base value, that means my character (who has 1519 health currently) could receive five heal ticks of 70 points over the next ten seconds. If I don't recast it. If the damage wasn't mitigated. If I didn't crit (can it even crit?). And if you do the math, 70 points is what, 2% of my overall bar?
And I wasn't even aware it didn't stack, didn't even think about it. Meaning I'm not getting my full 10 second heal-over-time anyhow.
Some questions left: Is that 70 points per tick, or 70 points divided up into five separate ticks?

Ah, it was just an idea. Thanks for taking the time to check it or else it would have bugged me till I finally return home
It costs 280 magicka and does 1.5k dmg over 10 sec and heals 1/3 of its dmg (without spell dmg glyphs) + its 30 meter range.

Strife's tooltip always said it did a DOT, but until the recent patch it never did any damage past the first tick. Now it does, it's still not as bad as the OP is trying to make it out to be.Strife <Funnel Health> – On occasion can heal more than the suggested 2 ally players and sometimes it doesn’t apply to anyone including the player.
Strife <Funnel Health> – Doesn’t appear to be healing allies for the actual amount it should be, inconsistent heal effects.
Strife <Funnel Health> and <Swallow Soul> – Due to the ranged nature of this spell the projectile often takes several seconds to land on the intended target (even if in melee range).
Strife <Funnel Health> and <Swallow Soul> – Often once cast if the player was to turn away from the enemy target this ability will not do any damage to the intended enemy. (Nearly like it should be a channel from previous games)
Magicka Flood <Passive> – Gives 8% max magicka at level 2 per siphoning ability that is slotted. This passive doesn’t detect Strife
These are what's wrong with it still. Plus there are times when it doesn't do any damage or any healsWinterstrife wrote: »Strife/Swallow Soul's tooltip

There is no mention of a DoT component, maybe you could post up some combat logs (unable to login the game to test myself due to login server issues -.-).
Uh... what do you think the first line says? It's supposed to tick every 2 seconds, sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't. Prior to the patch, it never ticked past the first damage tick.

The bug is that the heal does not proc on the strife damage tic, but on the previous/next damage tic done. If you have a dot on the target, it will likely proc on the next dot tic, thus giving a weaker heal. When I noticed this, I tested it by burning siege in PvP. Siege burn is 4k a tic. Getting a 1k hot (1.5k on crit) is truly beautiful. And, oh yea, I was using funnel health, and my teammate confirmed the hot value.
I believe it's actually a lifetap buff. When you cast it you get back healing from all damage done. It's not in itself a dot. So if I cast it then I get healed a percentage of the damage from all sources including melee attacks.Arsenic_Touch wrote: »I havnet played my v10 NB for a while but unless they added a DoT swallow soul doesnt do DoT

The problem is many times, threads this old in a game this new is filled with old information. You have people quoting others on items that may have changed. Fortunately, this skill isn't changed but a lot of the skills used in conjunction have changed.

Oh, I agree. I wouldn't have put my 2¢ in the same way had the skill gone through a noticeable change. But from day -5 it has always been one single hit, not a dot. (Despite what everyone was yelling at me at the time.)
Last night I was talking with a new nightblade guildie who seemed a bit supprised when I told him that strife was an all up front hit. My point of commenting was in hopes to clear up any remaining misinformation.
