It costs 280 magicka and does 1.5k dmg over 10 sec and heals 1/3 of its dmg (without spell dmg glyphs) + its 30 meter range.

    The balance adjustment is completely out of control. Either they get massive boost way over the top. Or they get nerfed into oblivion. Small steps and see how it goes is how it should be.

    Unless I'm mistaken Strife/Swallow Soul does not have a DoT component to it but rather HoT component on the player instead.
    And yes as pointed out, it is not as strong as you're playing it out as compared to say Drain Essence from the Vampire skill line.

    It's a direct damage spell, that is actually pretty weak. I think you are mistaken OP.

    Unless I'm mistaken Strife/Swallow Soul does not have a DoT component to it but rather HoT component on the player instead.

    It has a dot. 316 magic damage every 2 seconds (doesn't actually look like it does that much every 2 seconds though) and it used to be where it'd only do the initial damage tick and that was it. The health gains also don't appear to be what they're supposed to be.

    Funny, it does 277 damage once, and gives me a healing over time. (5 ticks over ten seconds dealing 25% of the damage done as healing to me.)

    Which is about 70 healing a tick every two seconds.
    And doesn't stack with itself, so recasting it will only reset the duration.


    Or has it recently been patched to have a greater effect?

    I havnet played my v10 NB for a while but unless they added a DoT swallow soul doesnt do DoT

    It's very testy. I've seen it tick occasionally, moreso than it did previously. But I've actually used it on a mob that it should've killed (a non healing mob) and it only did about 500 damage total.

    I think you guys are having some trouble with the syntax of the tooltip.

    It damages for X. Then (totally separate now) it heals the player for 25% of X every 2 seconds for 10 seconds.

    There is no mention of a damage-over-time component.

    Some of you have misunderstood the description. Which, to be fair on all of you, is down to how badly worded all of these freakin tooltips are.

    The damage is 21. It heals the player for 25% of 21 every 2 seconds for 10 seconds. Player also receives 10% more healing from other healing sources when this ability is slotted.

    So the ability causes 21 damage once. You use the ability, it hits the target and causes 21 damage. That's all the damage it causes. In addition to that, every 2 seconds, for 10 seconds, it heals the player 5.25 health.

    Although, I'd loved to be told I was wrong and it did cause DoT. That would be amazing.

    Strife, and more specifically Swallow Soul, is one of my go-to abilities for my NB Archer. It doesn't do damage over time that I've noticed. There's a one-in-ten chance you won't even get a heal (and I have heal-boosting passives), and when you do get the heal, it's often insignificant compared to a potion or other heal source.

    If it didn't do damage at range, I would probably not use it.

I should be able to log in, join a dungeon, join a battleground, queue for a dolmen or world boss or delve, teleport in, play for 20 minutes, and not worry about getting kicked, failing to join, having perfect voice coms, or being unable to complete content because someone's lagging behind. Group Finder and matchmaking is broken. Take a note from Destiny and build a system that allows from drop-in/drop-out functionality and quick play.

    @zos_ginabruno - Can you chime in on this? is there supposed to be a dot, or is it just massively underwhelming and worded wrong like a lot of skills?

    It's not worded wrong, and it doesn't deal extra damage. The sentences about damage and healing are clearly separate from one another. I've never been confused by this tooltip, and I have no idea why others have.

    It's not a confusing tooltip to me, but if others are confused by it, the maybe a simple re-write can help.

    Current:
    "Deals XXX Magic damage and heals player for 25% of the damage inflicted every 2 seconds for 10 seconds."

    New
    "Deals XXX Magic damage. Every 2 seconds for the next 10 seconds, the player will be healed for 25% of the final damage amount inflicted."

    This new tooltip, while slightly longer, will cover two major points of confusion: not only is it not a Damage-Over-Time ability, but it also only heals 25% of the final amount of damage done (instead of 25% of the listed amount in the tooltip). The difference is that that heal may be adjusted upwards in the case of a crit, or far downwards in the case of a mob/players damage mitigation.

    At VR4, this is giving me a listed value of 280 damage for 263 magicka cost. Even if this is a base value, that means my character (who has 1519 health currently) could receive five heal ticks of 70 points over the next ten seconds. If I don't recast it. If the damage wasn't mitigated. If I didn't crit (can it even crit?). And if you do the math, 70 points is what, 2% of my overall bar?

    And I wasn't even aware it didn't stack, didn't even think about it. Meaning I'm not getting my full 10 second heal-over-time anyhow.

    Some questions left: Is that 70 points per tick, or 70 points divided up into five separate ticks?

    I used this skill quite a bit while leveling 1-50, but it's damage is too low to for me now. I use the morph funnel health on my second bar while healing, but I often forget about it B) It's not over the top.

    Lol, swallow soul doing 1.5K damage... That would mean this one skill take half the HP of your average mob.

    Sounds like someone never played Nightblade, haha. It does a decent amount of damage (~10% on a 3K mob) but it has zero dot and heals for a minor amount.

    Can I have a screen shot or video where a NB do 1.5K damage using swallow soul? I use this ability all the time and I am not seeing anything remotely close to what the OP says so I must be doing something wrong.

    Could the Op be quoting a critical, maybe? Didn't they recently fix it so Strife could crit?

    I think you are confusing Swallow soul with Crippling grasp or some weird hybrid between the two.

    Now having both those ability on the same button would be awesome.

    No i don t think it is the addon becase i can see my health regenerates faster in the bar if it works, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn t.
    I use foundry tactical combat, anyone got the same issue?

    Just an idea here. Are you by any chance affected by shadow barrier when it doesn't work well (you know, the increased armor and resistance when you come out of invisibility)? I have a feeling that we simply resist our own healing sometimes. That would explain the case with leeching strikes as well. Magicka and stamina are not affected by resistance but health is. Just a hunch but I cannot test it since I'm out of town for the weekend.

    Correct, it does instant damage and is a HOT on the player.
