I never even bothered to take shield bash, I have a better stun with Petrify on DK.
Bash was never meant to be as spammable as it was or as powerful. 1H and S was more for tanking and the nerf is pretty minor.
These threads need consolidating and tissues should be sent to all the ex- bash spammers to wipe their snotty noses with.

If not, shield bash was never intended to be a form of DPS. I never used it primarily this way, which is why I continue to use 1h/shield exactly the same as I did before and have zero complaint about the fix. Yes, fix, not nerf.

It cost stamina bc it's a interrupt, not because it's supposed to crank out 450dps (that's what mine was doin pre-patch). Did you read the reason for the FIX? It was doin "more damage than intended". Sorry, now you have to use skills like everyone else in the game.

Because its an instant disable, in a game with a limited ability bar. In order for this game to be balance correctly every skill needs to be balanced against every other skill in competition for room on the players ability bar. This ability dealt excessive damage for being a disable as well. This meant it was two powerful functions in 1 slot out of only 5 allowed.
If we compare this skill to night blades concealed weapon/surprise attack a very similar disable/with disorient + med-high damage ability, you can begin to see why deadly bash needed a nerf.
1. Concealed weapon requires the user to be hidden from the target for the disable/disorient to be applied. This basically requires the night blade to have shadowy disguise/ dark cloak slotted to close distance in pvp situations. This means the nightblade uses up 2 slots to do the same thing deadly bash does with 1 slot.
2. Using shadowy disguise/dark cloak + concealed weapon together costs 500+ magicka for a VR1 player without light armor cost reductions. Invisibility alone cost just under 400 magicka. I've heard night blades invisibility is one of the most expensive spells in the game. (not entirely sure on that but that what others have said.) This is REQUIRED for the disable to work. Deadly bash? one click half second animation.
3. A nightblade going invisible to use concealed weapon is a clear tell to most players to block. Meaning the nightblade will occasionally have to waste magicka on an invisibility w/o stun because the other player reacted to his actions. This is a risk, with a reward if executed at the right time. Deadly bash has no tell whatsoever, other than you have a shield and that is your op ability about to be spammed, it requires very little set up, and for its cost/damage/cc break cost to opponents stamina always gave you an edge.
Deadly bash still has its place, it is a quick disable.
holding an opponent that just dumped his stamina on your perma block? Sure, you'll need to use another ability or have a team mate to deal damage to kill them though.
Interrupting a channelling ability? sure, unless you charge in and give the enemy a cc break at the start of the fight, by spamming bash.
Chasing a medium armoured enemy? use bash to make them waste stamina on a cc break so they cant sprint as long.
This is action/reaction pvp, and the basis of this games balance. This is why before 1.1.2 this ability was so frustrating for other players. Its also what we've all been learning for the past month in PVP. While you took the easy way out spamming one key. Now your crutch is taken away and you don't know how to play the game? It's still a strong weapon set, I still use it. You just have to evolve your play style. Honestly the fix was warranted, this is coming from a sword & shield user. Holding block and spamming bash was too easy to pull off and required zero skill. Now you have to actually play properly and learn how to use the rest of the skills available to you.

✭it was a nice way to deal damage but the fact that it out preformed any other option almost entirely was a bit much. as it currently is its still able to be used to boost DPS by doing a melee+bash. which before was so much dps that it really was the best phyiscal DOT option avilable.
to explain, melee+bash takes advantage of the fact you can intrupt almost anything iwth a bash, which timed right allows you to constantly preform a bash and light attack in the same timeframe that you would otherwise be just doing one or the other, effectively doubling your DPS for a minor stamina cost.
i mapped secondary keys for basic attacks and intrup to 6 and 7 respectively so i could just push them in sequace constantly for insane DPSI play every class in every situation. I love them all.0 -
LeElohmb14_ESOSoul ShrivenWe're not talking about a skill. We're talking about bash itself. Hitting someone with a shield had the damage reduced as well as nerfing the 'deadly bash' passive skill. People in PvP were complaining about it without -playing- sword and shield. In PvE, ten minute long fights are -annoying- as every other weapon type just zips on through. I know it all looks dandy at level 30 but in vet ranks it is most assuredly not. Before the patch I could take three PvE mobs at once -consistently- and slowly wear away at them with bash. None of my slotted skills are high damage skills. None of the sword and shield skills are.
The point of ESO was that you could play how you wanted. I can't play how I want in PvE anymore because it literally takes -forever-.
And to the person who said you never hear about shield fights? Please quit watching TV and google the Greek hero Ajax who -only- fought with a shield. He also went by Aius which is on of the reasons I named my character Aia, the feminization of Aius. Historically, being bashed by a shield really sucks because armor is almost useless against blunt trauma. Blunt trauma is how maces work and a blunt trauma attack, utilizing body mass like a shield bash, is nasty.0 -

ErilAq✭✭✭I'm sorry, but 1hand&shield is meant to be for tanks, not dps. we have two weapon slots, if you run with 2 slots 1hand&shield you won't be doing damage. run with 2hand, destro staff, duel wield, etc. You're not stuck with one weapon line. I understand it's frustrating having to redo a build, but bash was obviously broken (like the vamp ult) and zenimax put it in line. It's not the end of the world, and we can certainly still be viable. If you built your entire class around bash you did it wrong.Internet armchair warriors attack! Yayayayayayaaaaaah!!!!0 -

Now someone who never played an archer complains that archers are overpowered and shouldn't be able to do what they do in PvP and yada yada. Then Zenimax slows the speed of which you fire, makes arrows do less damage, and nerfs Ranger.
You start to play your archer in Veteran PvP and now you can only take one unit at a time and kiting around it takes you three or four minutes to kill that mob. So you complain on the forums about it and someone tells you 'Hey man... you know... you don't have to play an -archer- nobody said you had to. You can equip other weapons. You're just whining!'
That is what is occurring, here, for sword and shield. I should be able to solo as sword and board without taking this long to fight in PvE. Period. If you have never gone sword and board and are complaining about it... with all due respect you are not the expert you think you are. Go play sword and board and invest the 20+ skill points and design the rest of your character around it. You won't right now, because it isn't fun. Sword and board was designed around bashing. Look at the actives and passives and try to understand how they work in conjunction.1 -

Bash isnt just an interrupt ability. Its a form of damage. Any class can interrupt with their weapon. Now the damage of bash has been reduced and has made the sword and board pretty much useless.
But it's main function is to interrupt.
Using the sword & shield line you have the advantage of adding extra damage and cutting down the stamina cost, but it was never intended to be your main source of damage.
Sword & shield is far from useless. I still prefer it over the other melee weapons.0 -
