Maintenance for the week of December 30:
• PC/Mac: No maintenance – December 30

Only having 12 skills available makes gameplay feel really limited and handicapped.

The current skill/hotkey system is fine. It's one of the things this game actually does right.

The only thing I would change is allowing a second item hotkey with its own cooldown. This is because having only one item hotkey and one cooldown discourages using potions that don't heal you if you're not a Resto Staff build of some kind.

Magicka potion (self-made with some kind of secondary) + soul siphon has saved my butt more than once. :sunglasses:

Absolutely. Open source, just make sure the actual advice stays disabled, so as to maintain realism.

The point is you're not supposed to have all the abilities on your bar all at once to handle every situation. It's to promote team work to accomplish your goals. If you're weak in one area, then a group member should be strong in that area to compensate.

This is a MMO after all, designed around group play.

It is? 1) Phasing; 2) Why do they have solo bosses that you have to fight.

MMOs as far as the ones I've played allow you to group for everything. The only game that doesn't is The Secret World. I think that ESO's devs borrowed too much from other games, GW2 (only ESO doesn't do it as well) and TSW (only ESO's solo is not as fun). I'm sure they borrowed from other games as well.

Don't get me wrong, I love this game but to suggest that there is any grouping in ESO that allows team support is an overstatement. This game is not designed around group play. This game is designed around solo play and grouping is painful.

The game is very much designed around group play.

Just because it's done poorly, does not mean it's not true.

I disagree. It's much more efficient to utilise 12 abilities, than it is to only use 6.

You say "all that time spent weapon swapping", but in reality, the delay is what? 1 second? It's only a slight annoyance, but it's an annoyance that's not needed, which is my whole point. Swapping weapons during combat is still very effective.

Just because you refuse to see the advantages of weapon swapping, does not make it useless.

I don't mind the limited spells, I actually prefer it over the 50+ spells being cluttered around my entire screen. But I think they made it this limited with console players in mind.

Number of skills tend to bloat in games over time. Have to have new stuff.

So why can't I have all my skills available on the screen like 40+ in WoW. Then add the 33+ keybinds needed to be decent at using them. Oh, and lots of macros.

    Or, NOT.

I kind of like the hard choices one has to make in ESO with having only 10 active skills and enjoy the game-play that creates.

I'm perfectly happy with the number of skills, and don't want them to change how many we can use.

I *would* like them to fire when I select them, though. That would add to my enjoyment immensely. And swap weapons when I choose to. Make those more responsive, and I'm golden on that front.

Ruze is a veteran of the PC Beta, lived through the year one drought, survived the buy-to-play conversion, and has stepped foot in the hells known as Craglorn. He mained a nightlbade when nightblades weren't good, and has never worn a robe. He converted from PC during the console betas, and hasn't regretted it a moment since.

He'd rank ESO:TU (in it's current state) a 4.8 out of 5, loving the game almost entirely.

This is an multiplayer game. I should be able to log in, join a dungeon, join a battleground, queue for a dolmen or world boss or delve, teleport in, play for 20 minutes, and not worry about getting kicked, failing to join, having perfect voice coms, or being unable to complete content because someone's lagging behind. Group Finder and matchmaking is broken. Take a note from Destiny and build a system that allows from drop-in/drop-out functionality and quick play.

    No.

Takes more thinking between encounters on what you are going to use. More strategic.

No more WoW like have every role available to you all the time.

It's because there's massive lag in pvp that causes ability bars not to switch properly. If Zenni actually took care of this, we wouldn't have a problem.

I like the current system. In secret world you only get 7 abilities at once. You need to really plan per situation. What they have that is lacking though are build. Pick your abilities, weapon and armour(well talismans in secret world) then save that in one of 6 build slots.you can save just the abilities, just the talismans etc too. I have solo, group heal, group dps, low agro tc. You can easily switch between builds with a few clicks.

ESO could allow people to save ability arrangements like that. I usually don't like when they sacrifice elements of the game in the name of might convenience (like nameplates, no thank you) but in this case its minor and would help.

5 is too low. There should be more especially when the skills don't increase in level unless it is slotted.

It's just right. Imagine, a game that forces you to actually use a skill to level it.

It's simple. They give us more room for skills, we slowly but surely lose variety in builds.

    Common sense, 101.

Are you in US? If so you have little room to speak. While USA may have a one second delay, Europe has longer about three seconds. Asia is also about three. And even Australia is about three seconds. This is a prime example of people saying it doesn't affect me so it should not affect anyone else.

The fact is this delay issue does affect thousands of players and it is more a three second if even at all switch before you die. So having a way to use all skills easily would be nice. And it IS a design flaw. ESO wanted to save money so they had no servers in Europe.

But wow WOW, Squareenix, and so many others have servers in all regions to meet player bases and they are years or decade old games. So ESO should learned from companies of the past

I don't think we should have all skills available because that does defeat the purpose of combat design in eso but the weapon swap should be instant and if you have both weapons slotted in the both slots then you don't need to change weapon to access those other skills.

both bars become available for use. After all where is the logic of using 2 daggers and having to switch to the same 2 daggers to use different skills?

They should implement a 4 armed race so people can use 2 different weapon sets at a time... Just as realistic as being able to use all ur abilities at any given time.

The fact you're using the word realistic in a fantasy based mmo proves you're just a muppet. 99% of ESO is unrealistic.

Please don't embarrass yourself infront of the community with your silly posts. Thanks.

I like the limited skills. People aren't jacks of all trades, to truly get the most out of your character it takes planning and sacrifices. You have to make a conscious decision about what you want to use, and you have to live with the pros and cons of your build.

100% agree, very much prefer this and making you pick which skills to have prepared.

Has nothing to do with consoles either , EQ made you pick which spells and abilities , old school RPG's made you decide what spells to have memorized and so on.

Not having every ability possible loaded at all times makes me enjoy this decision making and this game very much more than most other recent mmo's.

I love the lessened UI , enjoy not having 30 toolbars and the screen covered.

Again I'm not asking for all the skills to be make available... just a few more than that what it has now.

8 skills on each bar would be nice. I hate that I make a suggestion and people take it to the extremes. In fact in case people can't read, here is a direct quote from my OP.
I think it would be awesome to have a few more weapon ability skills to chose from, 5 skills is not much diversity. It's so annoying that you have change weapon to access the other skill bar, even if you have the same weapon slotted.

Notice the key word here? A few doesn't mean all.. just in case you didn't know.
