True..... but Blizzard DOES manage to keep everyone informed of whats going on rather than just say "servers are down" AND you don't have to wait on them to finish their maintenance to download a patch. On patch day you can start downloading at the start of maintenance (which is usually in the wee hours of the morning so fewer people are impacted) and be ready to play when the servers come up. With ZeniMax we wait till the servers are up to download in many cases and then you have everyone rushing to get patched at once which takes forever. I'd much rather be able to download the patch while waiting for the servers to come up. With the current set up we have to check the launcher repeatedly with the only communication from the people that are collecting our money being stuff such as:
We're currently looking at a few more hours for today's North American megaserver downtime, folks.

which is non specific, informal, and unprofessional.

You see, that still wouldn't be good enough for half the population and more on ESO, as people demand what they want, whether they care to navigate forums or not. ZOS let us know they're working on it, I'm sure you'd complain later on about not getting enough updates.

This game is not WoW, and has not had 10 yrs to perfect its system. It's had a month and a half. You can't compare a 10 yr old MMO to a new game/new & entirely different company.

I've checked it about 20 times today in between cleaning and errands and so far I cannot DL anything. There are tons of threads on it not being available and hundreds of complaints on FB and Twitter as well.

I thought maybe it was just available to the EU & people were getting them confused cause they're not identifying whether they're EU or NA?

If the patch isn't applied, how would it be downloaded? The download becomes available after the patch is satisfactorily applied.

True, ESO is not WOW but businesses that want to succeed(ESO in this case) in an arena where Blizzard obviously has had success, shouldn't need10 years to perfect their communications program/approach. Especially with a forums/support based website. This is standard business these days.

ESO communication with their customer-base is just not effective. From lack of timely customer support responses, to these web site forums(which it is not a stretch to say most ppl strongly dislike).

A simple ETA tell us, that ZOS values our time and goes a longway towards building continuity and trust with their customers. And they could stand to take a few lessons from Blizzard.

I realize that many people would still complain but I certainly wouldn't if communication was better and access to information was easier. Just saying "we're working on it" doesn't count.

While I completely realize that this game is not WoW you absolutely can compare Blizzard and ZOS. WoW is by no means a perfect system but with 10 years of tweaking they have set the standard on what is generally expected by customers. It's an example well known through out the MMO and even the general gaming world and is the standard all other MMOs are held to rather people agree with it or not.

Saying they've only had a month and a half is really no excuse. ZOS has had months of time to listen to their customers through Beta when most people that were taking the Beta seriously had the same complaints about lack of communication and professionalism. ZOS also had the YEARS they worked on this game to do research into how basic communication between the company and its customers should be handled with an MMO.

Up until very recently there was a server status section of the forums here that was updated at least quasi regularly when the servers were down. They've since removed that and put up a server status page that only says servers are down and does not provide any communication as to when they might be back up. If you want that you have to search through the forums and hope they mentioned it.

Basic professionalism and customer service skills are not exclusive to this industry and certainly aren't exclusive to only one company.

Unfortunately, as honorable, devote and naive as your intentions may be...This is the market ZOS has to contend with in order to succeed.

A customer-base that wants what they want - wants what they paid for regardless of how realistic or otherwise unrealistic that might seem to some people.

It's not your place to tell others what to do with their time.

Sounds like a bunch of single players feeling entitled to this and that, not understanding how MMO's maintenance works, In My Opinion. & crying because their is maintenance, yet they'd more than likely be the same ones complaining when there isn't enough maintenance.

My life certainly doesn't revolve around the game but I'd be much more patient if I could just look in one spot and go "Oh servers are down till xx:xx pm, that means I have till then to do __________ before I need to get the patch downloading."

I may not be a 24/7 player but I do try to schedule my play time around when I know I can enjoy it uninterrupted. Thursdays happen to be one of those days when I have a few free hours in the middle of the day set aside for ESO.

It would be nice for ZOS to provide some communication about ETAs because some of us have lives outside of this game and like to be warned when we need to make other plans.

Currently the weather is too icky to be outside, my house is clean, and prep work for dinner is already done so I'm stuck reading a book, watching terrible daytime TV, and perusing the forums during the time I set aside for myself specifically to play ESO.

Side note: like several other people are now saying the patch just became available for download for me as well so maybe that's a good sign.

We're currently looking at a few more hours for today's North American megaserver downtime, folks.

But they told us at 12:30PM EST that it'd be a few more hours, so if you don't revolve your life around a video game, what are you doing trying to schedule everything around it?

Check back around 2 or 3. What is so hard about that to understand? That's an ETA if i have ever seen one. Worse comes to worse, its not ready and we check back later.

I don't know how old you are, but from where i'm from, rain doesn't hinder me of doing things, if anything id take that rain and use my four wheeler to go outside and rip around in some trails, but that is just me.

You couldn't maybe drive a vehicle (if you were old enough) to maybe go out and do something?

True..... but Blizzard DOES manage to keep everyone informed of whats going on rather than just say "servers are down" AND you don't have to wait on them to finish their maintenance to download a patch.

They should have a stickyed thread on a server status page that provides updates frequently. They should also provide the updates via Facebook, Google+ and Twitter. It isn't that hard to say "We apologize for the inconvenience but maintenance is taking longer than expected. We anticipate the servers will be up by xx:xx pm EST. We will update everyone as soon as more information is available." And then give everyone updates at regular intervals of 1-2 hours. Patchy responses scattered through forum threads is a crap way to do business.

Obviously every MMO is going to have down time. That's expected as is the fact that sometimes the downtime will be longer than initially anticipated. But having it at times where lots of people are impacted is unnecessary and having such a terrible lack of communication is unprofessional. We are their customers not their friends. Why have a customer service staff if there is no service?

TL;DR: Blizzard may have long patch days but they are more communicative and professional about it. They also allow you to download a patch at the start of maintenance or at your leisure during maintenance.

Wow, man. You want them to apologize? Read your Terms. These can take as long as they want… they can do as many as they want… whenever they want…
all you can do is decide not to pay them anymore.

Well that… and/or post 3 paragraphs of righteous judgement and a list of demands I guess.

It's their first major content update. It's patch day anyway.

    And it's just a game.

    Chill.
