At the moment I just hit 33 or 34 earlier and I won't be 50 for a while. I'm taking my sweet time through the game and enjoying it. I'm mostly interested in joining guilds that just have friendly pleasant conversation.

How do you verify your members are indeed female? I am aware of your voice chat, but what if one cannot speak? Webcam?

I am not trolling; I am simply curious as to how one filters members into exclusive guilds such as yours.

@Pele Our guild invites members on the honor system. That is - if you say you are a female over the age of 18 then you will receive an invite. We have had a handful of men join the guild posing as women, but they almost always alert us to their presence within the first few minutes of joining. They do this by questioning the integrity of the guild and pointing out that they managed to slip in undetected or by trolling guild chat. At this point they are immediately kicked from guild.

If a couple of men manage to fly under the radar and retain membership in the guild - so be it. The guild isn't a, "Let's hate men," club. It's a, "Let's provide a safe haven from the harassment that men so often direct at women in MMOs" club. Some men are perfectly capable of behaving themselves. Their continued membership in Siren Song means that they are following our Code of Conduct. Also, since you are the first person to ask this question in our recruitment thread (though I've been asked this countless times when I recruit in game), let me add that I believe many men would find our guild chat very boring to read/listen to and this would lead to their quitting long before it leads to their kicking from guild.

And if that isn't enough, we have good sense of humor about the whole thing. It's pretty understandable that a man would want to be in guild surrounded by women. We've had a couple guild discussions about those men who decide to hold the, "Women don't play video games," or "I'd just like to meet a nice female gamer," conversations in general chat. We know we're the equivalent of unicorns and that we're often desired - the problem is that harassment is so prevalent and many of us don't want to deal with that particular aspect. So, when it comes to harassment the guild is succeeding in every way, regardless of the men who might or might not be hiding within our ranks.

@dsalter If you think it's a contradiction you're missing the point. Reverse sexism is not sexism - it is a request to be treated equally. Segregation is not segregation when the people that are choosing to separate are those being marginalized. Discrimination is not discrimination when a segment of the population is being excluded because they have a tendency to discriminate and harass. The powerful take issue with the powerless organizing and will call it anything with a negative connotation to discourage it. If you cannot understand why there isn't a contradiction here - there is no point in continuing the discussion.

I’ve been with Siren Song from the start and it’s quickly grown into a wonderful guild. Everyone is fun, friendly, and I never have to worry about being hassled or treated differently. We still have room for new members!
