    LOL @Affrayer‌.
Guys, I for one don't mind them taking extra time to make sure things work. I was being sarcastic about the fact that they are trying to avoid making promises they can't keep.

Just feel lucky that this isn't WOW. Blizzard takes 16-24 hours for major content patches like this.

I don't mind the lack of ETA, but I'd like some indication. Y'know, "minimum 6 hours" vs "minimum 12 hours" vs "minimum 24 hours". Makes a big difference to my plans for the evening!

Well, I guess I'll wander over to the EU server and play my character there ;) .
Guildmaster of the UESP Guild on the North American PC/Mac Server 2350+ CP & also found on the European PC/Mac Server 1700+ CP

These characters are on both servers:
Alix de Feu - Breton Templar Healer level 50
    Brings-His-Own-Forest - Argonian Warden Healer level 50
Hrodulf Bearpaw - Nord Warden Bear Friend & identical twin of Bjornolfr level 50
Jadisa al-Belkarth - Redguard Arcanist Damage Dealer level 50

    NA-only characters:
Martin Draconis - Imperial Sorceror Healer (Aldmeri Dominion) level 50
Arzhela Petit - Breton Dragonknight Healer (Daggerfall Covenant) level 50
Bjornolfr Steel-Shaper - Nord Dragonknight Crafter (Ebonheart Pact) level 50 EAGERLY AWAITING HIS BEAR
Verandis Bloodraven - Altmer Nightblade Healer & clone of Count Verandis Ravenwatch (Aldmeri Dominion) level 50
Gethin Oakrun - Bosmer Nightblade Thief (Ebonheart Pact) level 50

Yes it would be nice if they could work out a way to update the red area at the top of the forum pages with some sort of ETA info and also let us know an estimate of when we could start downloading the patch 5+ gig is going to take quite a bit of time and it would be good to get a head start on it

I agree, the head start would be nice. I have Comcast though, so it won't take that long, lol.

I dunno, maybe if they rush it they wont mess it up, they took 6 years to develop this catastrophe, and look how it turned out, lol.

Lack of an ETA seems to be a not uncommon thing with them. I get the not wanting to make promises they can't keep but they could atleast give us a time frame. Server will be down for 6-10 hours for example, then people could plan accordingly.

I would rather one hour/two hour of server save every day at the same time every day like 5:00AM EST. During a time in which the fewest players would be impacted. People would get used to it and in other games which already do that, people are used to it.

Good stuff in the patch notes, look forward to the Shield Bash changes, I hope these improvements reposition the importance of this skill from being "spam shield bash and do nothing else" to "shield bash is one of the tools useful to those who use it".

Etas are always a tricky thing when you have 100s of thousands of users. Give an eta and they castigate you for missing the eta if you do. If you don't give one they you get threads like this. I wonder if a study has been done on this with gamers

True..... but Blizzard DOES manage to keep everyone informed of whats going on rather than just say "servers are down" AND you don't have to wait on them to finish their maintenance to download a patch. On patch day you can start downloading at the start of maintenance (which is usually in the wee hours of the morning so fewer people are impacted) and be ready to play when the servers come up. With ZeniMax we wait till the servers are up to download in many cases and then you have everyone rushing to get patched at once which takes forever. I'd much rather be able to download the patch while waiting for the servers to come up. With the current set up we have to check the launcher repeatedly with the only communication from the people that are collecting our money being stuff such as:
We're currently looking at a few more hours for today's North American megaserver downtime, folks.

which is non specific, informal, and unprofessional. They should have a stickyed thread on a server status page that provides updates frequently. They should also provide the updates via Facebook, Google+ and Twitter. It isn't that hard to say "We apologize for the inconvenience but maintenance is taking longer than expected. We anticipate the servers will be up by xx:xx pm EST. We will update everyone as soon as more information is available." And then give everyone updates at regular intervals of 1-2 hours. Patchy responses scattered through forum threads is a crap way to do business.

Obviously every MMO is going to have down time. That's expected as is the fact that sometimes the downtime will be longer than initially anticipated. But having it at times where lots of people are impacted is unnecessary and having such a terrible lack of communication is unprofessional. We are their customers not their friends. Why have a customer service staff if there is no service?

TL;DR: Blizzard may have long patch days but they are more communicative and professional about it. They also allow you to download a patch at the start of maintenance or at your leisure during maintenance.
