Suggestion: Let us Volunteer to Ban Bots

We are all doing our job by reporting bots in the game using the customer service menu.

However, I feel it's not enough, and that the staff is overwhelmed by the volume of our reports and the magnitude of the problem.

Could ZOS please consider a volunteer program for players that want to sacrifice some time to in turn make the game better for their fellow players? I suppose some form of compensation would be necessary - maybe game time or reduced sub or something.

I think part-time volunteers would be highly effective. If we see something going on our player account, we could swap over to the bot-banning account and take care of it.

Big concern here is having people abusing and upsetting the non exploiters. Even in EQ where they had a very robust Volunteer GM school and program, they didn't give you this power

Ok, so vet them or something. We need more boots on the ground. More people are suffering right now due to the bots then would suffer due to potential griefers abusing this.

Exactly. I'd be banning everybody. Just to get my FPS up.

    Clean house.

    Oh, look another vet...

    BAN.

Maybe it could be as simple as only being able to loot a Boss once a day. There would then be no more reason for Bot whack a Boss

If they give you this power, this will be like in PAYDAY 2 , you get kicked for everything except for being annoying or a bot

The problem with bots is that not all bots are bots. Some bots are actually just antisocial spawn campers (players) that just seem like bots and potentially have a stupid name. ;)

When your ban a bot, a window open and they must respond a logical question or a write a captcha. Only if a Volunteer try to ban someone.

Sorry, but no on every level. This sort of activity should be solely the responsibility of ZOS employees. ZOS are ultimately responsible for the GM's action, as such they must be their employees.

It sounds lovely on paper, but it would be abused beyond belief.

The only reason you think it would be abused is because you believe there aren't good people out there trying to do good. Would the be some bad apples in the barrel? Possibly and possibly not. Power doesn't HAVE to corrupt.

A better argument against it is the issue in incorrect bans and Zos being held responsible for volunteer actions. That is a real land mine in my opinion.

Are we still unwilling to place some degree of trust in users to help ZOS to curtail bot activity? How much does the player base have to continue to suffer before people will relent and accept some degree of community based policing?

Hell no. Players do not deserve or need that kind of power.

Do you promise to only use it on bots and not that guy who just ninjaed "your" treasure chest, or the guy who keeps ganking you in PvP, or that dude in your group who just will -not- stay out of the fire?

wow has been around for 13-14 years they still have bots and with wow having a ton of money to throw at the problem means bots are not an easy fix.

I posted an idea like this once, we developed some good ideas over the course of the thread. but in a likelihood, this will never happen. I agree with the OP, but I doubt it would ever happen.

What if i do not understand english or can barely read (or not at all since reading is not really needed for a big part of the game)?

    Same thing for captcha...

How many fails does it take to be a bot?

Not for banning, no way.... Sorry I remember real pay GM abusing the power they had in UO and also some random forum admin doing the same thing when they did not like you...

So because of that, i will have to say no thanks...

There is no way to properly, or fully vet someone to allow them that sort of power. Potential griefers could do far more harm than you think and then Zenimax would have to scramble to rectify the situation which would take them away from everything else they have to do. Ultimately, Zenimax would be responsible for whatever damage is done, and a lot of unjustified banning would just add fuel to the fire that is already smoldering.

Allowing volunteers to ban people would be a bad idea, and I just don't see them doing it.

Letting players have control of things like this, is never a good thing........
