Fix Tales of Tribute

Lenascissorhands
What exactly is the point of me doing all the work to unlock a deck just so someone else who doesn't have it unlocked can purchase the cards and use them... makes NO sense! They really need to rework this. The fact that you select 2 decks at the start of the match and the ability for the opponent to use them is just insane. WHY even bother to pick a deck if the other person can use it just put all the decks together and remove the unlocking them since there is no point in it.

In fact, I have a great idea for ZoS on how to fix ToT: disable it... forever!
Because every second they spend working on that is a second they lose fixing bugs, balancing PvP, classes, and everything else...

Tales of Tribute is a deck building card game so if your bring your deck to the game, your opponent can buy them if tavern offers. This is just how the game works.

I dunno I'd consider it a Deck Building game. There's no actual building of your own deck as both players play with the same decks. It's more a Deck Selecting game.

The whole point of Tales of Tribute is that both players have access to the exact same cards from the tavern, with victory being determined by how well each player handles their available cards, resources, and RNG. Unlocking decks and cards gives you the ability to pick those decks during the deck-selection phase, which gives you more flexibility in terms of going for deck synergies and counters.

Yeah NO that's not how it works... I put in all the work and unlock the decks and the clues to upgrade the cards and then some pvp guy who decides that he wants to play a card game queue's up and gets to use all the cards that I put the time and work into earning and he can just use them and never have to touch the actual game or do a quest... It's not right! WHY even have the decks locked at that point. If the opponent hasn't unlocked that deck or upgraded version of the card they shouldn't be able to use those cards!

Having a shared Tavern pool to draw from is the entire premise of Tales of Tribute. Tales of Tribute is not a collectible-card game; it's an open-drafting deck-builder, and the deck-building happens during the match.

Unlocking a deck gives you control over the drafting phase. When you unlock and upgrade a deck, you get to decide if you want that deck to be part of the match. Having control over the drafting phase is important, because that's where you can set up synergies and counters to different deck combinations.

Personal trivia to offer : I don't believe in competitive gaming. If videogames are to elevate our minds and make us better individuals, since societies work better on cooperation and mutual care than competition and predatory dynamics, then competitive gaming is just toxic. I really don't see the point in playing videogames where you just shoot and kill other players because there's nothing else to do.

You don't like PvP ? Don't do PvP. I never do PvP whatever the game I'm playing and I love it. I play for fun, for great stories and worlds to explore, and when I get the chance, to help people.
I get that PvP ToT can be frustrating, I had to play against other players to get some ToT furnishing rewards. If you don't like it, don't do it.

I don't PvP much, but have in the past and I've always been a defender of the PvP community.
That said, all the posts calling for nerf this, nerf that, X is too strong, Y needs a buff that form the bulk of the forum content recently have really ground my gears.
I'm fed up of having my PvE characters getting gutted because of PvP. Is it the PvP community's fault? No. But if ZoS can't find a way to balance the two massively different modes separately they should expect and accept that they're doing one group a large disservice.

In particular, I hate that you tied Zerith Var's progression into it.
Why should I be forced to play this game just to complete his companionship?
I know that fishing is tied in with Sharp, but fishing is dead easy compared to
the laborious slog of ToT, and unfair on players who have no interest in playing
what is essentially a whole different game to the rest of ESO.

Please ZoS, show some mercy - he's the only one Ihaven't completed!

The way I got past this hurdle was asking a friend for help.

As far as I can tell having a friend suggest what cards one should play etc - may it be sharing one's screen with them or having them around one's place - does not violate the ToS.

I would have never managed otherwise because my brain actively rejects/expunges any playing knowledge of ToT.

Just imagine how much time they spent creating that thing, and how useful that time could have been if they had invested it into something that actually fits in ESO.

A new dungeon. A new trial. A new zone. A new system that players could actually use every day. Something like creature taming, for example, or literally anything else.
ESO is so damn BIG, and it still has so much potential, even after 12 years. They could do so much more with it. There isn't even a comparison between that thing ToT and what this amazing team could actually create.
But well... there's nothing we can do about it now. The ToT is here, so the team has to keep spending precious development time on it just so a small part of the player base can use it. Well... yeah. Kinda sad, honestly.

They didn't spend that many resources on ToT. Based on what I read, it seems like it was only a couple of months for maybe a few people.

ToT would´ve been a good addition to the game if it was an actual deck-building game and not the pseudo RNG nonsense that it is. Also not having a banning/picking phase system (like you´ve in most MOBA´s for example) is also a big turn off for me.

Yeah NO that's not how it works... Um.... that is how it works. Its always how it worked. It was designed that way. When you select a deck you are selecting that deck to play the game. You are playing with your unlocked deck. Your opponent can only select decks they own too.

But actual gameplay means that you both get to buy and play cards from that selected deck. Its the core mechanic of the game.

If you could only benefit from card patrons that you own then the game breaks.

It IS a deck building game. You just do it while you play instead of beforehand. Plenty of card games like it.

Building a TCG style game like MTG into ESO wouldn't work logistically.

The balance comes from what decks you select, and that you both have access to the same pool of cards.

Just because your opponent can pick the same cards doesn't mean they will know how to use them. The whole point of unlocking Decks is so you can practice them and get to know what cards work together with other Decks you have. People who DON'T have those Decks unlocked won't know how to use them effectively with Decks they do have.

This would not be a "bit of a change". I would be a modification of one of the fundamental principles of the game. If anything, they need to tone down some OP cards and check the RNG of the tavern.

Just for the record, I have all the decks and upgrades (even though I wish I did not use at least one of the upgrades).
