Streak needs a CC nerf

People are getting way too emotional and not analytical enough in this thread, so I decided to make a video demonstrating why Streak is overperforming and why its current area of effect is larger than it should be.

Rather than arguing about hypotheticals, the video shows exactly how much area Streak covers and why the current size makes the CC so difficult to avoid.

For comparison, Nightblade Fear has a 6-meter radius, giving it a 12-meter diameter and an area of approximately 113 m².

Streak, on the other hand, covers approximately 12 meters in width and 22 meters in length, giving it a total area of 264 m².

This means Nightblade Fear's 6-meter radius provides a useful reference for Streak's 12-meter width, while Streak extends that same width across approximately 22 meters of length.

    As a result, Streak's 12 × 22 meter area is approximately 2.33× larger than Nightblade Fear's 6-meter-radius circle.

In other words: Streak covers significantly more area than Nightblade Fear, making it a substantially stronger and more impactful ability in terms of its effective range.

If you don't trust my math watch the video.

    https://youtu.be/2aA3h6H1Qn4

    Explanation in the video:

Streak's range extends approximately 1–2 meters behind the character.

Hurricane has a 5-meter radius and is out of range, while Fear/Whirling Blades have a 6-meter radius and are in range. Since a 6-meter radius extends 6 meters from the center in every direction, this demonstrates that Streak has an effective width of approximately 12 meters (6m × 2).

The same comparison shows that Streak's frontal range extends roughly 6 meters beyond its 15-meter travel distance, giving it an effective frontal range of approximately 21 meters.

Combined with the additional 1–2 meters behind the character, the actual stun area is approximately 12 × 22-23 meters.

@ZOS_Kevin can you have the devs check this? It looks like the skill might be bugged because its CCing much further than the actual area of the skill.

why should my sorcs streak be the same as my nightblades fear when they two diffent classes and two totally different skill ? you could also have both and thats what subclassing is for, also it is not just a pvp skill however i have never seen a sorcerer using streak too often in pve once in a blue moon while the nightblade skill is frequently used in pve, if pvpers imply cant live with what the other class has then subclass it will feel great to have the best of three worlds at your disposal :) infact if they do exactly the same thing ine day why not just swap the skills and give nightblades streak and sorcs the other skill ! would it make anybody happy though ?
at the end of the day a sorcerer simply is not going to streak through everyone to victory 1v1 anytime soon

The video uses Fear as a baseline to demonstrate Streak's range because Fear has a known 6m radius, making it a useful reference point for measuring how far Streak's CC actually reaches. It was never an argument that Fear and Streak should be identical.

The point is that Streak's CC is extending well beyond what the ability description implies. Streak is supposed to stun enemies in your wake as you teleport, meaning the CC should affect players you actually pass through. Instead, it can stun players behind you at the start of the cast and roughly 6–7 meters in front of where you land. You don't even have to pass through the target for them to be stunned.

That's the issue the video is demonstrating: the CC is reaching significantly farther than the distance you're actually traveling through. And I've said multiple times in this thread that I'm not calling for a mobility nerf. If Streak retains its mobility, it will naturally function differently from Fear.

sounds like an even better escape plan then, just say that it leaves in a hurry stunning pursuers in its wake to the description, this would look and soun alot more farmiliar to alot of players when its used to escape, i have seen sorcs fail many times and rely on this skill to flee and dont get me wrong, i think this is a good thing, but between that and the nighblades ability to simply stay hidded sounds abour fair

This still doesn’t really make sense because it also stuns people in front of Streak, and its affected area is 133% larger than Fear's. Describing it as “stunning pursuers in its wake” doesn’t accurately reflect how the ability actually works—it makes it sound like the stun is exclusively behind you.

More importantly, no stun should be this effective. It’s outperforming the range of every other ability by over 100%, while simultaneously being instant, unblockable, undodgeable, and uncapped by target count. That combination gives it essentially every advantage a stun can have, with little to no counterplay.

If the goal is for this to function as an escape tool, it should have meaningful limitations—whether that’s reduced range, a target cap, a dodge/block window, a cast time, or some combination of those. Simply describing it as an escape ability doesn’t address the fact that its actual mechanics make it dramatically stronger than the other CCs.

A strong ability can absolutely be a cool, but it needs a corresponding weakness or tradeoff. Otherwise, this quickly becomes power creep: the ability doesn't just play differently, it performs the same function substantially better and reduces the value of the other options.

The question isn't “Why can't this ability be stronger?” It's “What does the player give up for getting all of these advantages?” If the answer is essentially nothing, then it's a balance issue rather than merely a unique design choice.

It stunning consistently from behind too helps explain why gap closers such as the werewolf leap feel so inconsistent against it.

I feel it certainly shouldn't stun from behind in that case then especially given the stun is forward-focused.

I know arc-beam is like this but the use cases are drastically different and streak with the unnecessary (for it) feature is egregiously toxic to either of its meaningful counters (movement speed or gap closer 'spam')

I hadn't considered how strong streak is tbh. Unblockable and undodgeable in a semi-large rectangle does make it unique. Generally other similar ccs like nb fear and fighter's guild fear require you to be in melee range. Streak not having a target cap is probably the most unreasonable thing about it.

It's not a rectangle, it's a cone; you need to aim extremely precise if you're using it at long range. Of course, nobody actually knows that because it's not mentioned in the tooltip and people who make threads like this are usually not the people to actually test things before complaining about it. I have good news for everyone though, CC has counterplay: you can actually break CC in this game; maybe don't skip the tutorial next time.

I suspect many people in this thread will still defend the cc on this skill. No objective observer could ever conclude that streak is a skill shot, but people will tie themselves into knots to argue that the skill justifies such a large unblockable and undodgeable stun because it is difficult to land on opponents.

Anyway, Streak is not going anywhere. It has never been and will never be an issue, as spending time in a real fight speaks everything there needs to know about the ability. I hope ZOS treads through this thread carefully and pick the right information, test it thoroughly in various scenarios, and take into consideration of the class' entire toolkit, advantages, weaknesses, and thematic importance before making any balance changes.

The devs already implemented a nerfed AOE CC streak in Vengeance. Action is more powerful than words, and an existing implementation is more powerful than forum discussions. Devs are aware of the balance problem of streak. Whether the devs decide to port the changes to normal PvP is up to them. I don't expect it to happen soon, maybe in 2027 batched with sorc rework, but you never know like the sudden changes to Expert HUnter and nightblade stealth.

There was never any good-faith engagement with how the ability actually performs. Most of the people defending Streak were arguing from emotion rather than from an understanding of how the skill actually works and what its CC is capable of.

You can see this pretty clearly because as soon as a video comes out actually demonstrating how the skill works, they immediately respond by calling it “misinformation.” If they watched the video, that's an outright lie. If they didn't, then they're spreading misinformation themselves out of ignorance.

Either way, that's not good-faith engagement with what the ability actually does.

The ability is objectively over performing as a CC, and the video simply demonstrates why. Whether that's due to a bug or an oversight is up to the developers to determine, because it clearly doesn't function the way the ability is described.

That’s it! Make NB’s cloak explode the user for 1 million oblivion damage should they dare slink to the shadows in a fight.

But fr, it has no right hitting opponents behind. Beam I can understand but this skill is hindering actual counterplay especially given how easy it is to actually hit (clearly) based on that video. Also, needs an AoE cap just for parity with other AoE CCs, if nothing else.

At this point, watching people defend Streak is basically watching the five stages of grief in real time:

Denial — “Just side-strafe it. It's incredibly easy to dodge.”
Anger — “Skill issue. If you're getting hit by Streak, you're just bad at PvP.”
Bargaining — “Bombard is actually stronger.” / “Wings is basically the same mobility.” / “Just increase the cost.” / “Okay, maybe Streak is strong, but so is [insert completely unrelated skill].”
Depression — “Anyways, this will be my last comment. Whether ZOS nerfs it or not, I don’t really care anymore lol.”
Acceptance — “It’s an overcompensation for bad netcode.”

We've gone from “Streak is easy to counter” to literally arguing that it's intentionally overtuned to compensate for the game's netcode.

    We're almost there, boys.

What are you talking about? I’ve always had the stance that Streak needs an adjustment.

Streak is arguably the strongest CC in the game right now, and it's not particularly close.

The problem is that Streak combines an extremely strong mobility tool with an AoE, unblockable, undodgeable stun. It also has an enormous effective range and, unlike most AoE CCs, has no target cap.

ZOS has made several changes to single-target CCs specifically to give players more counterplay. Streak largely ignores that philosophy. If you're caught by it, you can't block it or dodge it. Your only real counterplay is to get stunned and break free. If someone wants to stun you with it, there isn't anything you can do about it.

This becomes especially problematic with ball groups. Sorcs can streak through a pugs and CC huge numbers of players simultaneously. The fact that Streak's CC has no target cap makes coordinated groups disproportionately effective with it.

I don't think Streak needs to lose its identity as a mobility ability. It just needs reasonable counterplay.

    Some possible solutions:

Make the CC blockable but keep it undodgeable. It's direct AoE damage, so being blockable would be consistent with other abilities.

Add a target cap. Streak has had a target cap historically.

Tie the target cap to the cost increase. For example, the first Streak hits 1 target, the second hits 2, the third hits 3, etc.

Reduce the width of the CC or make the stun only affect players around the starting location rather than everyone along the entire path.

There are plenty of ways to fix the problem without gutting Sorcerer's mobility.

Right now, though, Streak is uniquely combining top-tier mobility with a massive AoE CC that cannot be blocked or dodged. Other CCs have been given counterplay. Streak should get the same treatment.

I’ve already addressed this. ‘Skill issue’ isn’t a response to the argument.

The CC of streak should be totally dropped. It's too disruptive of a skill.

Arguing that an overturned ability should stay overturned simply because it’s always existed that way isn’t the slam dunk you think it is, especially when there’s clear video evidence that it’s not even performing the way it’s supposed to.

Its not a cone. This is misinformation. Watch the video.

I'm a little confused on how the ability works. It looks like its extending out super far past where you end up after streaking. How is this thing supposed to be working?

People wanting Streak nerfed are no different lol.

The only video evidence you guys have is the large hitbox, and that itself isn't even meaningful evidence.

Streak is an initiator and like all initiators it is only as good as the offensive follow up. Sorc's offense is not that hard to deal with, so Streak at best is annoying but not threatening lol.

OP keeps trying to push the narrative but it is not getting nerfed lol.

You did admit the hitbox is massive lol, and boy do yall not understand how annoying it really is. Its not fun to fight or deal with, I honestly avoid sorcs and let them run away more times than not, its beyond aggravating.

I groan every time I gotta deal with yall because if they cant kill you they just play keep away and stun you into madness instead.

It is "technically" a skillshot with an uncharacteristically large area of effect the size of texas.

A massive hitbox combined with being unblockable and undodgeable. Also, it’s been proven that the skill stuns people around you, not just the people you go through. Sounds pretty damn meaningful to me.

Streak isn’t an initiator. No one starts a fight with Streak (no one way knows what they’re doing, anyway).

Also, saying Sorc’s offense isn’t that hard to deal with is patently false when it comes to Sorcs who can string together huge burst combos. The same huge burst combos that are backed up by the giant unblockable stun to ensure they go off without a hitch.

Cool. I’m sure a lot of folks are going to keep this whole thread and everything you’ve posted in mind when Streak inevitably gets nerfed. Prepare to be hit with some of the craziest “This you?” posts. Because every argument you have presented boils down to saying that Streak is fine because you said so and everyone else is bad at the game.

I just dont understand this talk about "video evidence". What evidence? Streak has always been like that. It is obvious that it covers a huge area. I believe it is also too big of an area. But evidence of what? It is just a video showing how much area Streak CC covers. If you play the game, you already know that. Not like there is anything in the description of Streak saying that CC covers exactly certain amount of area. It could be a 35x35m area, starting 10 meters behind you and ending 10m after you, would still fit in its description.

Well considering fossilize was unblockable and undodgeable, and it was changed, so now you can counterplay, Imo streak should also be changed. It should be either dodgeable or blockable (imo blockable since its aoe). Also I think the biggest problem is streak spamming, using it like 4 times in a row. It should be changed like nb bow proc, so you can use it only once per 4s. This is the real problem, stun itself is not that bad.
