Also, I gotta say, I'm not disappointed in the developers for including players like me. And if someone is upset that players like me are included in these systems, then I really don't feel that's different than the gatekeepers who say people parsing 100k on a Oakensoul build aren't welcome in groups because it's Oakensoul.

I personally feel that content in this game should be fun and rewarding for all playstyles. I find the idea that all content should be difficult and people should have to get good exclusionary. I find the idea that difficult content should be unrewarding and not included in most new stuff to also be exclusionary.

For me, both arguments sum up to "Only the way I play should be both fun and rewarding," and I don't agree. This is not a free game. All content should be fun and rewarding at all play levels. We should all get our money's worth imo. And yes that means people who do more different types of content will get more stuff. That's not unfair imo.

This has nothing to do with gatekeeping. It has to do with adapting everything to one play style.

Including difficulty options for something that was discussed to be a relaxing play at your own pace story mode negates the whole point of it.

But (from what I've heard) we CAN play the relaxing store mode if we do not take any misfortunes AND even get the sets from the group dungeons. So, I do not see the issue here.

The biggest disappointment is assuming, and not confirming, what exactly will be given. The PTS is where the devs show you exactly what they are intending to release. And feedback has been given and adjustments made after they listened to the players.

Show us where the devs said they were giving solo "story mode" only dungeons with nothing else added to them.

How does it negate the point of it? The original player suggestion was you'd get to hear the story and get absolutely zero rewards for listening to it.

You got that. And you actually got bonus rewards too. You can hear the story as many times as you want now.

So if you got everything you wanted AND got extra bonus goodies too. Then the upset isn't about not getting what was requested. It is upset that others were included in the update too.

Me too. But it isn't. I don't want to gatekeep anyone from content. I'm generally not disappointed when I can't participate. I've never complained about vet level content, trials, or anything else too sweaty for me, and didn't complain about the Night Market (which definitely excluded my playstyle). And yes, there will be activities that aren't for every player. Lately, however, everything seems to be designed for one type of player, with the other type of player getting shortchanged. So when solo dungeons turn out to be challenge modes with a story mode tacked on, yeah, I'm disappointed and wondering when something will be coming for just the casual player, because that hasn't happened yet this year. If things so far this year had been more equitable, I might not be as disappointed that I'll be shut out of some achievements (and apparently have to grind harder for some rewards) yet again.

[ETA: when I say something for just the casual player, I mean something beyond a few hours of content like favours and the two story questlines. A meaty system.]

Anyway, that's how I feel and no arguments will change my mind. It's kind of silly to try to argue someone out of how they feel, anyway. :)

Honestly, it's just looking like this game might not be a good fit for me anymore. It's not the ESO I started playing back in 2016, and that's okay. It's a better game for others.

And unfortunately, us wanting something doesn't really mean much. You might not be able to get the achieves for doing any of the MFs; I will never get the harder Trifectas, I probably won't ever get the Beast Personality that I really want. Vet No-Death is pretty much impossible for me, with as overwhelmed as I get.

    That is a defeatist attitude.

I started this game in 2019. One of the main things I wanted at the time was the Beast personality for my werewolf character, but I was really put off by group content since I - like a lot of people - was a Skyrim convert and my first thought was "eww, other people."

And then I stepped outside my comfort zone to get into it. I started with the UESP guild since I was on their website all the time, so I figured that being in a guild with other lore nerds would help me feel better and fit in.

And... it worked. Like... I did fit in. And the more I played with them, the more I liked all elements of the game.

They offered Dungeon runs for people who wanted things - gear, training, and even who just wanted to run the stories to experience them. I have done every one of the 56 dungeons in the game as a lore run, meaning I have gotten to take them at my own pace with other people who also wanted to experience the stories, and therefore we were all on the same page. And from that guild, I made friends and we still run things together (and my 4-man trifecta group, that has now done every 4-man achievement in the game, is all people who are still in that guild with me).

So... have you ever... tried to get it? Like, really tried. Not "oh I put it on group finder or pugged it and someone yelled at me." I mean like have you joined a guild of like-minded people, have you discussed how you can optimize your build to your specific conditions (I saw a build video yesterday of someone who developed an Oakensoul heavy attack build that does 130k+), have you progged these achievements with people consistently and practiced?

And besides, carries are totally a thing as well. If it is physically impossible to get the achievement naturally (which it isn't, but let's say for the sake of argument that it is), there are guilds that offer carry services so you can still get that. I was considering buying a carry to get mine before I ended up joining a group and then having fun and getting it the standard way.

Your post essentially is saying "I wanted a way to get the rewards for doing hard group content without it being hard or being in groups, and I want no special rewards for anyone who plays above a casual level ever."
And I'm sorry, but that's called entitlement.
Where are you getting "I want rewards without doing the content" from, exactly? I was telling the other person that sometimes there are things we want but can't get, whatever our limitations are. Nothing in my post suggested I want to be able get rewards from harder content without doing work for it, and neither did I say I don't want people playing harder stuff to get things for their effort. If you read the things I've been saying here, I'm literally in agreement with it in this instance. My not thinking CD warrants rewards on higher difficulty has nothing to do with me not being able to do it. I can. I don't want to. But the point of CD wasn't to reward people for playing on harder settings. It was the harder settings themselves making the game more engaging that was the reward.

It's not defeatist at all to know what you can and can't do. And carries are a thing, yes, but I'd rather not spend 5m+ Gold or however much they go for these days on one. I can live without the Personality even though I want it. My entire point is we can't always get or have what we want. That's just life. It isn't "wanting something without the work".

The thing is that I think a lot of this is just because we didn't get a zone. Which I understand because we didn't get dungeons either.

But as a mostly solo vet player, the only thing prior to this year that we had gotten was 2 arenas. Even IA is specifically balanced for 2 players so even though you can enter it solo/with a companion, it's a slog to get to the actual fun challenge parts because like when I solo dungeons, it was actually balanced for a group (duo in IA, 4 people in dungeons). This means it's actually very rare that I get to experience arcs higher than 4. I simply don't have the time.

But this year, the devs have finally really went all in on including us in solo stuff. We finally got the overland slider. We got an unexpected but still really exciting looking addition to the solo dungeons. They added more challenging non-instanced group content like Dynamic Encounters and Night Market.

And solo casual players have complained about us being included every step away. Saying things like how greatly disappointed they are we still get some of our exp when we enable challenge sliders or how solo dungeons giving you everything you've asked for are now ruined because they also included a challenge mode.

If the complaint was "we need zones again," or "Freerunner quests should have been designed to be more fun," than I would agree 1000%. Like I said, I want y'all to have stuff for you. But, I don't agree that should come at the expense of them adding stuff for me. And that is clearly the complaint here because story mode has everything that was requested by casuals and even bonus rewards for the play style. They're even giving you rewards that were previously exclusive to groups.

You can't say "People like me are getting no content when I don't count the content that was designed for me."

But even besides the two storylines and the three Favor stories (and the upcoming Rumors system as well), it sounds like you want the Nowhere Vault then. That's a new system for casual players that involves basically no combat. It's essentially the Infinite Archive if it were based on puzzles and getting loot. It will be a permanent new system for players coming in the next patch.

Now what permanent new content do hardcore 4- or 12-player groups get this year? Or PvPers? If you claim that everyone should get content, then that means they should get some as well, right? So where is it?

On the March 31st 2026 Seasons Direct stream, at 37:51, the devs start talking about solo dungeons and how they came to be and Fin specifically says "choose different levels of difficulty".

People tend to hear what they want to hear and yes, it can be disappointing when the assumed expectation is not met.

But it ISN'T adapting everything to ONE PLAYSTLYE. Just because options exist for others does not exclude you from the option that you wanted and got. I genuinely don't understand the desire to prevent there from being other ways of doing X thing if what you thought you would be getting is included and actually gives more rewards than most people were expecting it to. The Msifortune System takes NOTHING from Story Mode. Anyone who wanted to take the Dungeon at their own pace can do so no, regardless of how many people opt to use MFs in their runs.

If we got Solo Dungeons and there was no way for people to experience the story, if there was no Story Mode setting, THEN I'd see what the problem is. But again, people thought and assumed they'd be getting what it was they envisioned. It doesn't matter how many times the players discussed it, as sparta said none of us are devs on the team. Just because we talk about something being X or Y way doesn't mean that's how they're going to implement it. It's not "Challenge Modes with Story Mode tacked on", it's Solo Dungeons that are being implemented in a way for everyone to enjoy them, from casual quester to endgame player.

Casual players have practically the whole game. Adventurer Overland is casual. Story Mode in Solo Dungeons is casual. Most Events are casual. Golden Pursuits and Tome Challenges more often than not are casual. Nowhere Vault is going to be casual (there aren't any hard fights that I'm aware of, there's next to no fighting in most of the Rooms). It's disingenuous to act like a large portion of the game isn't more suited to casual players.

    It didn't change anything.

Having more options than what you thought doesn't mean you aren't getting what you thought. You ARE getting a relaxing way to play through dungeons while solo. They're ALSO giving players more challenging ways to play dungeons solo.

This also isn't some surprise either. They were very upfront and transparent on this from the start.

I think it is odd that some people are presenting the solo mode as tacked on to the challenge modes. If anything, I see it as the other way around. Challenge mode is quite literally tacked on with having to take debuffs.

I admit I have some difficulty understanding either side of the argument here. I can do the max difficulty just fine, but why would I be happy about opportunity to grind the same two dungeons over and over? I certainly will not be doing that. As for the rewards, I long ago accepted I will never get achievements for things like trial trifectas or PVP, because I cannot stand such things. So how is this any different, and why are some users expecting all achievements here?

But why do you believe you will never get those achievements? Is it because your build doesn't allow it? Because you can't optimize your build? Because you don't have enough DPS? Or because you haven't been able to learn from and correct the mistakes that prevent you from completing the content?
Those are not all the same thing.

So, in simple terms, my question is: Are you unable to get those achievements because of your build, or because of your mistakes??

Of course everyone's feelings are valid, but I hope you also understand why some of us might have trouble understanding why ZOS giving more for everyone means less for you.
    • The solo dungeons were talked about having difficulty levels from the beginning.
    • The difficulty levels are optional and story mode is the default.
    • On the current PTS going with story difficulty is really, really easy even without a proper build.
    • Unlike standard group dungeons, you have a chance of getting a monster set piece not only in normal mode (1 misfortune) but also in story mode (0 misfortunes). This is unprecedented, getting veteran rewards in overland difficulty.
    • Taking just one misfortune makes it Normal difficulty and makes it possible to earn every reward. Every single reward possible. I mean, gold companion gear and monster mask style pages in Normal difficulty? The bust in normal difficulty? Come on. Those are at least veteran rewards, but they are given out in normal difficulty.
    • You can farm 5 piece set pieces in story mode while those who put the time and effort farming before had to do in groups.
    • Story mode has a chance of dropping monster mask (veteran reward typically requiring two difficulty levels higher).
    • Normal mode has a chance of dropping the bust (typically requires veteran difficulty), and style pages (usually requires at least veteran, but often requires that you have at least completed hard mode for decent drop chance - now it just drops in normal difficulty) and gold companion gear (in normal difficulty? What?) - basically everything that normally requires at least veteran difficulty, preferably hard mode, has now a chance to drop in normal difficulty. So the 2mf and 3mf difficulty levels are pretty much just for the challenge, with no extra rewards - not that I mind, I already solo dungeons while getting absolutely no extra rewards.
    • The only thing you can't get without doing difficult content is difficult content achievements. That's it. You can get the difficult content rewards without doing difficult content, though.

I really can't take this discussion seriously when I'm reading MF there, that MF is hard! I'm not stacking three MFs, what MF is your favorite, let's nerf the MF! .... Please... I'm not reading MF as misfortunes...

    (Edit for clarity.)

None of those things. As I said "I cannot stand such things."

I do not enjoy PVP and I do not enjoy playing in a large group.

I feel ya. I would like to have Patron's Gold dye, but I am not willing to even do the ToT intro quest. So, no Patron's Gold for me. Either I accept it, or I play something I absolutely do not want to.

Yeah, I mean, almost no one enjoys every single activity in the game. It's a huge game, it would be nearly impossible to enjoy everything. So I don't think it makes sense to complain about inaccessible achievements. Either you treat this like a game and only get achievements for things you want to do, or you treat it like a job and you get more achievements. You really can't have it both ways (unless you are one of the lucky few who enjoy all in-game activities, but I have only spoken to one person who has all achievements in the game and I can confirm they did it for OCD, not out of enjoyment).

And the strangest thing is that I see people here who do not participate in certain activities in the game, and therefore cannot have those achievements, complaining about achievements specifically in these solo dungeons. I am sorry, I just cannot relate. The ability to do these on overland difficulty exists, now solving the problem (for these two specific dungeons) of not being able to do them solo if you do not have the build/skill level/difficulty preference for soloing the group versions.

But I think I've said all I have to say on this topic.

No. You need to discover a "revolutionary new build" that doesn't rely on attacks and still fits your accessibility requirements.

You "HA players" have made heavy-attacking your whole identity and it's genuinely holding you back. Actual good players can and will adapt and change their builds to the best of their ability to best tackle the content they're doing and overcome the challenges they need. When you insist on one-tricking a playstyle, you don't get to complain when that trick gets taken away for a mechanic or a challenge.

Ok, I agree. We're no longer making the content harder. We're just deciding which players are allowed to use their builds.
And apparently, forcing players to use builds they don't like is a “challenge” now. Well, what else could we expect from ZoS other than... incentivizing players to hate other builds even more? lol

    EDIT:
"You HA players have made heavy-attacking your whole identity, and it’s genuinely holding you back".
And why is that a problem for you? Why is that a problem for ZoS? Why is it a problem if someone wants to play with a build they like?
Oh... right. Because some players just want to play the game the way they enjoy. And of course... that’s apparently a big problem for everyone.

HA players aren’t welcome in group content... and now they’re being excluded from solo content too. Oh boy... ESO really is becoming more inclusive every day.

God, I swear I've never seen more whiners than HA players in ESO. Every time they have to do anything more than hold down one button even to close the most difficult content in the game and special challenges, there begins an incredible whining about repression worse than people experience in the most tyrannical world regimes.
This is so over the line, it's simply unbelievable.

You can dislike HA builds. That's completely fine. But "I don't like how they play" isn't really an argument for why those players should be excluded from earning achievements.
Seems like you're just another player who wants achievements based on build rather than how well "you" actually play. Yeah, I got it.

Fair enough. But to me, it seems like you're already getting pretty upset at the idea that ZoS should judge how well players perform rather than which builds they use. I could almost hear you screaming from Craglorn.
Relax, ZoS will never do this, and we all know it. After all, punishing build diversity makes much more sense, right?
    Cya, bye bye!

I know this is probably futile to say, but you are very unlikely to convince anyone of your stance by being aggressive towards them.

Rather, you are likely to cause enmity towards your stance in some who would have otherwise been indifferent or receptive. I do not completely disagree with everything you've said, but I find your tone off-putting, which makes engaging with you difficult.
