Ridiculous time penalty

When the opponent has already crossed the threshold of 40 points and one abandones a ToT match, one still gets a time penalty. That is just ridiculous to apply a penalty in that case at all.

PS: I know that I could just hit the clock and avoid it. That is not the point. It is simply bad design to not consider such eventualities when making the decision trees within the code.

To be precise: I am talking about a match where the opponent has crossed the 40 point threshold while oneself is below the opponent's score.

I'd suggest to just not concede at that point but in some cases I have chosen to concede rather than wait while my opponent draws the game out way longer than they need to. In that case the player shouldn't be penalized for ending it.

In RND, why do I need to be penalized for leaving a group with a fake tank/healer/DD?
Why should I be penalized for leaving a group where people don't care at all about the roles they signed up for, and join anyway just to screw over other players games?

Fake tank stays, fake healer stays, but if the player actually fulfilling their role leaves the group... they get penalized.
    Why? Because this is ESO.
A game that doesn't really care about roles anymore, because they don't really matter... and the game just assumes everyone has DPS.

While I do not condone fake role takers, the situation you are describing is a bit different. When a ToT player is conceding, the other player loses nothing. They still get their win and coffer: mission accomplished. When a player leaves a group, they leave the other 3 people hanging.

My understanding is that the latest changes in ToT were made to combat situations where people were misusing conceding/declining matches to achieve matching with a specific player and thus inflating scores. I might be wrong though.

I feel like conceding a match shouldn't incur any penalties UNLESS it's being misused somehow. If you concede one or two matches you should be fine, if you concede three times in a row THAT'S when you should start getting time penalties. Start at maybe three minutes, if the player concedes their next match immediately after, make it five minutes. Another concession? 15 minutes, maybe 30. There's no reason a person would need to concede THAT many times in a row.

One common complaint about ToT is that a game is decided in seconds, but takes a long time to reach its conclusion state. This issue never being addressed at all is a failure of game development.

That seems to be the reason for the change, but have you seen anything official about the change?

Nothing, so that is why I wrote that it's my understanding. I would really like to hear the official reason for the change. If that was not done to combat misuse, then that is just an annoying change that definitely made my playing experience worse..

I wouldn't be surprised if it was just because devs do things that are developery. Player finding a work around the stupid timer is a developer feel bad and they can alleviate that feel bad with developery changes that nobody actually cared about or asked for.

That said, there are certainly bots playing ToT. There are also players who would quit and fly through their ults. So there is potential fot abusive behavior even if the change is a net negative for most players.
