No NA mirror for the next four months?

When I originally saw the news that U52 would be delayed until next year in light of the layoffs, I entirely understood the necessity. But I just realised that means there won't be a mirror of the NA server for another four months. The slower dev cycles seem like they're going to reduce the 8 weeks a year NA gets on the PTS down to 4. That's... Really rough. I'd again like to ask for either more time allotted to NA on the PTS, or better tools to allow players to use the PTS equally well regardless of the active mirror. (Such as full access to luxury furnishings, the ability to get crown furnishing packs at all times, full access to crate furnishings, an unlimited quantity of flour, full access to antiquity and achievement furnishings on the housing side of things. Feel free to chip in with the things you'd need to test the combat and gameplay half of the game. I know there's something wrong with gear accessibility.)
I care what you think.

I really enjoyed and made use several times of the NA character copy during the downtime period last PTS cycle. I wish it would happen again! (Also, I made a post about this, but I’m not testing/giving feedback on the solo dungeons specifically because of the time commitment of rebuilding characters. NA gets 0 time with the solo dungeons. I did run through MHK to check for something specific but that’s all.)

Yeah, I'm having to make several template characters for testing things instead of being able to test them on my own characters. I really wish the PTS could be split more evenly between EU and NA, as it feels like more often than not a PTS cycle ends with it staying on EU.

I was shocked that NA got the long haul for the last PTS, and it was great to be able to run in and do some testing in the off-cycle. But now that we know that U52 isn't coming until January, that means that the next PTS will not drop until sometime in November so that's a long time to wait.

As mentioned, it wouldn't be so awful if templates didn't take ages to set up, but with thousands of nested boxes in boxes... why is that a thing? Shouldn't a template just automatically unlock everything without having to manually do that? Just give us a full stickerbook and an unlimited trransmute geode, and we'll make our own gear - it's painful to have to dig it out of some nested boxes (and try to remember what the source of each set is), then decon them to put them in stickerbook, then recon them in the trait we need... when we could just have the stickers unlocked and make them right away.
(and let's not forget the most important part: we can't even give them a nice fashion since we also have to unlock every motif style individually as well)

The nested boxes thing was necessary when we needed to farm and store gear. But stickerbook is now a thing. Use it.

And I'm for equity in PTS cycles: give EU the first run sometimes and give NA the long haul. As we're seeing, the new PTS version will activate things on different weeks, meaning that something activating on Week 3 can't be tested by the server characters who are only on in weeks 1/2.

Yeah I don't get why we need so many Boxes. Like the PTS doesn't take THAT much bandwidth to just have everything already unlocked for any template characters, does it? There can't be THAT many people that it's that much of a strain. It's not just Sets either, it's having to dig through the Consumables, the Crafter crate, and a couple of others ones too.

The Gear one is the biggest offender though. Dungeon > DLC/Base Dungeon > Light/Medium/Heavy DLC Dungeon > Find whatever set > Armor Jewels and Weapons > get which items you need. Or Crafted > Base/DLC > Find the Set > Light/Medium/Heavy > Armor Jewels Weapons > get the items you need (including needing to go through each Armor piece for the Trait you want).

Like was already suggested, it would cut out a bunch of time setting up template characters if every piece of Gear was just unlocked in the Stickerbook and an Infinite Geode plopped directly into our inventory instead of needing to dig through Boxes that don't even make sense. Instead of being in the Consumables, it's in Crafter's > Traveled Crafter. Why?

I just don't get why we can't have the PTS swap servers every month or so. Does it really take that many resources to swap it?

The collection USED to be auto unlocked. It really helped with setting up a character. That changed early 2024. We still haven’t gotten an answer why. https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/651864/no-collection-on-pts

It'd be really cool if there was some kind of export one could get and carry over to the PTS, and just use it to set up a character. A lot of the setup is stored in an Armory Assistant slot, so a way to have that be a file for PTS would do much of the work. Another export that has the character design, name, race, and class would complete it.

If there's a name collision, the player can resolve it during character create.

I don't really get what the problem is, if there's no mirror update then you don't lose the character you create either so just use the template, set it up once and then it will be left there for your testing purposes.

Reasons such as 'I want to try out a PTS House with my current collection of live things' - Well this isn't what PTS is for, you can wait until there's a copy available.

Would it be nice to be able to choose the mirror you use at the time of using the template? Yes.
Should they waste dev time on this? Absolutely not.

I think ZOS needs to stop doing the account copies all together. A better way would be to snapshot the character settings for each account then allow players to choose which snapshot to apply to the template.

So, the UI would look something like a dropdown listing all your character names and server realm then next to it the option of which template to apply the snapshot to. And when applied it will apply the race, class, champ points, skills, etc settings to the template.

Basically, cloning that character. All players would have to do is pick a new name and get whatever gear they want to test out of the template boxes. It would also cut down the, down time for the pts. They would not have to copy the whole server just scrape the character information.

It takes at minimum like 30 minutes to make a template character, if you know what you’re doing. It can take like an hour or more if someone’s new to PTS. Now multiply that by how many builds you’re going to make. Do that every PTS. I’m tired.

Sure, PTS isn’t for fashion, however, alternative uses of PTS encourages people to keep PTS downloaded. After all, why waste literally another ESO installation’s worth of space on something only useful a few weeks a year? People who have it downloaded already are more likely to hop in and try out the PTS content, thus more feedback.

The experience is horrible and this PTS has been shockingly dead. If ZOS wants PTS feedback, the experience needs improved.

Out of curiosity, when is the last time you've set up a template?

I see in your sig that you play on both servers. That means you don't need to do it regardless of which mirror is up.

Maybe take an alt account onto PTS at some point and see just how quick and easy it is to set up a template. "Oh, I just need to unlock these two sets. Now where did they come from? Oh, that's the wrong box. Wait, my inventory is full? Ok, there we go. And... ew, this isn't working. Maybe a different set? Uhh... oh, I don't have it? Wait, I need to open more boxes?"

And again, this does bar people from testing other things. Like I want to test one thing specifically: they said that Noth was removed from Vvardenfell so you don't hear her whine for characters who have done the questline. But she's also in Mournhold, and nobody mentioned that one. With an EU mirror, I can:
    1. Set up a template (takes 30 min-1 h)
    2. Run that entire questline (takes a few hours)
    3. Walk into Mournhold and check if she's disabled properly (takes less than a minute)
So... why am I going to bother?

And as for "wasting dev time on this..." see the post above:

One solution is go back to how it was. Why did they "waste dev time" on making it harder to set up a template?

You know the PTS stands for Public TEST server, right? It isn't just for testing updates, the fact that it's available AT ALL between update testing indicates it is also meant for TESTING outside of those updates. It's for testing builds without have to buy or make everything. It's for testing what Cosmetics might look like together without having to buy them since you can only preview things individually. It's for testing House builds without having to buy or make all the Furniture.

And unless you've ever gone through the hassle of setting up numerous template characters, it's not just a matter of "oh just make them and they're still there". No one ever said template characters get deleted. The point is that setting them up is a pain in the butt. But it isn't even just going through the hassle of that, it's also finding and unlocking anything else you might need or want to test. Digging through all the Boxes is a pain as well, especially when things aren't where it would make sense for them to be.

And how would it be a waste of time? They literally already have the ability to swap the PTS between servers. They do it all the time. Taking a couple of hours or however long the copies of the PTS take to get uploaded isn't going to waste dev time. It's not like it would cut into every single team's dev time or any team's time really. It clearly doesn't take any longer than a couple of hours for them to swap between NA and EU or else the PTS would be down for a day or so every time they swap in order to do the copies.

This feels like a bad faith post from someone who doesn't know the breadth of things that need to be tested on the PTS, but in case you're being sincere, I'll take the effort to explain this to you.

There is currently no way to test new luxury furnishings, crate furnishings, and furnishings from crown furnishing packs on the test server. They cannot be acquired and therefore cannot be tested on the PTS. For the past year, every crate has come out with at least one broken furnishing that would have been easily identified had we access to them on the PTS, and the fixes usually only hit live after the furnishing stops being for sale. For the past year, there has also been a broken luxury furnishing about once a month that, again, would have been identified on the PTS had we access to them. It's also necessary and worthy to test how various furnishings interact with one another in a build, and hundreds of furnishings are luxury furnishings. That's a lot of potential bizarre interactions.

This is the equivalent of new gear sets, acquired with real money, never being available to test on the PTS before hitting live. And the way you test new furnishings is by decorating. You decorate to see what the problems will be. Because that's what the use case will be on live.

As far as achievement and antiquity furnishings go: template characters get one copy of each achievement and antiquity furnishing, when they're included at all (that's inconsistent, too.) There are simple problems you can't test for with a single copy of an item, like, for instance, if they can stack. A problem that happens on live all the time is that multiple identical instances of the same item won't stack. Without relevant achievements unlocked, we can't see if there's a bug with purchasing new antiquity and achievement furnishings -- an existing problem on live, by the way, is that many antiquity furnishings can't be unlocked for purchase when the requirements to unlock them have been fulfilled.

It might not impact you personally, but the personal impact on you doesn't dictate the absolute worthiness of testing.

whilst i do get it, i am in Europe and i wish PTS cycles started with EU characters.
Maybe there should be swaps after a cycle too.

ZOS really needs to let us test everything in an update on the Public Testing Server, even things that they do not plan to release for months like Luxury and Crown Store furnishings.
And it should take less time to set up a template character, plus all the test crates are quite inconvenient with the same amount of inventory space as on Live servers.

Testing quests on PTS can definitely be annoying if you want to know how it goes if you did old quests with the same NPC's in new quests. Can only do that if you speedrun those old quests or use a copied character.
What if somehow the audio is missing specifically when an NPC tells you what they were up to in-between stories.
