They seriously cant believe that this is working as intended and will leave it for god knows how many years it'll take to see all classes reworked and bug/balance testing done..

Saying it has the survivability of a tank but also glass cannon.

Yes, they are strong, but they are not unkillable.

Everything is killable, what a moot point. Balance shouldn't be designed only around when things are unkillable.

Did you get around to replicating the 41k hit yesterday like I am sure you said you would do yesterday? I am very curious if you did it.

Yes, but the person who originally wanted it found out afterwards the original clip was done with corrosive and then acted as if that was an issue.

because it was stated that you could do this without corrosive in one of the two nerf dk threads, the other stipulation being powered up by a ballgroup i believe, but I suggested in another thread we nerf ballgroups then, but people arent satisfied unless the buck stays with DK solely, and even then whip specifically.

Ah well it just makes it obvious which morph to choose and which is the new dead morph, no big.

Yes, if you are in a ballgroup, being ballgroup buffed and you are against another ballgroup, even though you are ballgroup buffed, have high res, you still get hit that hard, ballgroups can 100% pen you without corrosive.

Then as I said I think even more focus should be on powering down the ball, which maybe now that people finally got their dk nerf they can focus on that instead since that shield nerf isnt even close to being enough for doing so

More people are going to be stronger than less people, especially when those people are the type that rely on DK being so overpowered, these players usually lack skill compared to the average. Plus, ESO is an MMO, if you are that upset about not being able to find friends to play with, there are some really good single player games out there.

If BGs are giving you this much trouble, I'd honestly recommend Skyrim. It's a lot more forgiving.

Just remember to open the console and type tgm if things get too difficult. You can even lower the difficulty if god mode somehow isn't enough. No DKs required, no groups to find, and best of all, nobody can outplay you.

At this point Skyrim really is the obvious solution. You can play on Novice, turn on tgm, spawn whatever gear you want, and nobody will ever give you a hard time.

You won't have to worry about builds, positioning, and teamwork. Just wander around Whiterun, hit a few mudcrabs, and enjoy a combat system calibrated to your skill level.

You might want to give Vengeance Campaign a try. The skill ceiling is considerably lower and the skill floor is a lot more forgiving, so it should be a much more comfortable environment.

It might be a better fit if BGs are feeling a little too demanding. No shame in finding a mode that better matches your preferred level of difficulty.

Nobody in 2026 is calling for templar nerfs.

In 2024 you got the occasional scrub who cried about Radiant Oppression. Devs nerfed it to be roll dodgeable and because of subclassing and PvE minmaxers on PTS, and to try and make the class more bland so arcanist beam casuals subclassed with templar don't have to change their rotation. Was the final nail in the coffin IMO, they removed the damage and catch tools that made templars semi-relevant. People can roll dodge Templar javelin CC so at least beam let them catch opponents, and then that was removed.

Yeah templar just isn't very viable in pvp now. The group armor buff is cool but I feel the class is lacking options offensively. Zos introduced a class mastery that functions well with jabs but the skill just feels outdated imo. Lag or high move speed makes jabs virtually impossible to land and it gets mitigated by Major and Minor Evasion on top of resists and crit res. I think changing the Minor Breach on Power of the Light to Major Breach could be very helpful for barspace which is lacking. Undodgeable Radiant would certainly help, but that main problem is the rest of the offensive kit imo.

I agree. Templar really lacks both delayed burst and meaningful sustained offensive pressure. Outside of jabs, there aren’t many ways to keep pressure on someone or create a threat that forces them to react, which makes the class very predictable.

And jabs itself is an incredibly unreliable foundation for a PvP offensive kit. Any lag makes it noticeably worse, and it’s especially awkward against moving targets. If someone moves perpendicular to you, jabs can simply miss, so you’re relying on a channeled, directional ability that gets increasingly unreliable the more mobile the fight becomes.

The class mastery doesn’t really solve that either when it’s already heavily reduced by battle spirit. Templar is also way too dependent on standing still and committing to its attacks, while its sustain and survivability aren’t anywhere near dk levels to compensate for that lack of mobility.

The class needs more ways to apply sustained pressure while moving, some actual delayed burst, and offensive tools that don’t completely fall apart against mobility, lag, and evasion. Right now too much of templar’s PvP identity is basically “stand there and try to land jabs.”

Agreed. And even with the proposed PvP nerfs in the next PTS patch, dk whip is still a much better offensive tool than jabs by a pretty wide margin. It’s more reliable, easier to use against moving targets, and gives dk a much stronger way to maintain pressure or burst targets without having to depend on a channeled attack that can fall apart from lag or movement.

There is basically zero upside to jabs.

The only other real option templar has for DPS is dark flare, and that’s arguably even worse than jabs in PvP. Any cast-time ability is already at a huge disadvantage because it’s easy to interrupt, extremely telegraphed, and becomes even less reliable with lag. On top of that, dark flare gets hit especially hard against dk with wings, so you’re taking all that risk for damage that can be heavily reduced.

When your main options are a channel that struggles against movement and lag and a cast-time ability that’s easy to shut down, it really shows how limited templar’s offensive toolkit is. You’re honestly better off light attacking than trying to get dark flare off.

The nerf is pretty heavy handed. Defensive skills like hof and wings (which slid under the radar) deserve nerfs, but dmg skills should always be very strong, for all classes. Everyone hates tank metas.

And the nerfs will not change dk playstyles. There will still be the toxic jerall+pyre duel builds and ow will still have crit dks, they will all just use crit dmg sets to still one shot everything but tanks.

They should have just buffed other classes. Literally just number changes and things would be fine.

DK's other skills should have been changed but the numbers on whip were an outlier. It will still hit harder than the vast majority of skills, it is perfectly fine. Buffing every other skill to be up to par is much more time consuming than just nerfing whip.

It will yes, because it is a burst skill and not a spammable, which the people seem to think it is. Now it will be dealing similar damage to spec bow, a little less, but less stacks for it too.

Still the point stands, whip didn't need a nerf. It was onslaught that allowed and still will allow these builds to exist.

Whip did need a nerf. The damage from bow is also an outlier, both bow and whip hit harder than any direct damage ULT in the game. That doesn't make any logical sense. Single target direct damage ults dealt less damage than a basic ability.

especially close range melee classes and builds.

Range and being able to dash away from any fight is such a massive advantage in pvp, its amazing to me people think melee characters shouldnt be strongest in melee range, especially classes that specialize in close range combat.

Current iteration of dk makes traditionally glass cannon builds tanky. Are you being purposefully obtuse?

You can see the dk in the video that whipped me for 41k has 30k hp. That's important because it means he wasn't even running some ultra-glass cannon build to achieve that damage. He could have sacrificed even more survivability for damage and potentially pushed the burst even higher.

That's what makes dk's toolkit so problematic right now. It's not just that whip hits hard in isolation; it's that dk has the tools to get that kind of burst without having to make the normal tradeoffs that other classes have to make.

They can build for extremely high damage while still being tanky enough to survive, and they can largely ignore sustain concerns because of core of flame. So you're left with a class that can stack offensive stats, maintain strong survivability, have reliable sustain, and still produce something like 41k burst from a single ability.

No other class can achieve this combination of damage, survivability, and sustain, which is exactly why dk is receiving these nerfs. It's not simply that whip happens to hit hard; it's that the entire dk toolkit allows you to reach that level of burst without making the sacrifices other classes have to make.

That's a fundamentally different level of efficiency than simply saying “whip does too much damage.” The issue is that the dk toolkit allows you to have your cake and eat it too. You don't have to choose between being a glass cannon and being durable—you can get an absurd amount of both. Bringing whip down isn't about killing dk's identity or making the class “less fun.” It's about forcing the class to actually make the same offensive/defensive tradeoffs that everyone else has to make.

Do the devs even play PVP atm? Am sitting with a full tank, 35k+ hp healing build and still every glasscanon DK pleb i meet somehow manages to do 17k+ with one ability while still having the survivability of a tank to take on 4-5 people solo.. dont they see something wrong in that?

They seriously cant believe that this is working as intended and will leave it for god knows how many years it'll take to see all classes reworked and bug/balance testing done..

Saying it has the survivability of a tank but also glass cannon.

Yes, make that make sense please.

I can’t because it doesn’t, because it’s not a thing. That people are saying a glass cannon dk build is tanky is exactly why I find the whole conversation to be in bad faith.

Current iteration of dk makes traditionally glass cannon builds tanky. Are you being purposefully obtuse?

I guess so, personally I just think we have a different definition and idea of what is "tanky".
Zos then: Vengeance is just a test bro

Zos now: Do you want Vengeance permanent or permanent...

No other class can achieve this combination of damage, survivability, and sustain, which is exactly why dk is receiving these nerfs.

Sorc can achieve it. WW (though not a class) can achieve it. To a lesser extent damage-wise, NB can achieve it. Maybe 7 out of 10 PVP-viable subclassed builds can achieve it.

I’ve noticed it for some time now, but I genuinely think we are moving away from sustain as one of the major pillars of character building. Yes, you’ll run out of resources if you just spam stuff left and right. But getting resources back and mitigating costs has become easier and easier over the past three years.

Even if that were true, which I don't think it is, WW is receiving nerfs. It would make sense for DK to be getting nerfs as well.

@BardokRedSnow So you don't think everyone and their mother playing DK and people with dozens of hours on the class performing as well as those with thousands cheapens the experience of playing DK? You take satisfaction in playing a game mode ruining DK?

I'm very happy to see the Devs acknowledge our desire for a fun and competitive PvP.
