The fact that this questline was stated as “a sequel to the first TG quest” and it even gives a notification to that effect means the default state should have been “I already know these characters and they know me.”
You know what, this is an absolutely amazing point. Would have felt so much better too.
This was why the “we’re going back to our strengths: the stories” statement from January’s reveal made me cringe. The stories have not been strengths. And games like BG3, with an impossible amount of dialogue and so much of it tagged for race/class/etc, have really shown how lacking ESO was on that front.
Great point, they did hype this quest line up a lot, and at the end of the day, they were kind of lazy with it.

Even some of the house guests (like Hildegard) have a number of lines that only appear under certain conditions.
Hilde has her standard lines, but also has additional lines that show up based on dark brotherhood status, and werewolf status. Which feels really rewarding as someone with those statuses. It's clear they can do multiple checks in the same dialog if they want to.

So it kind of feels bad that they didn't do more with the Thieve's questline sequel, when we know they could have.
