If I am not mistaken, The Devs said that they are addressing this issue by adding the Gold Coast Bazaar to the game.
It is supposed to allow us to purchase limited-time collectible rewards from the past, as well as new items and I thought they had said that they were planning on releasing a lot of the "this item has not been seen in __ months" type items into the Bazaar as an alternative way for us to get them.
