I had requested yesterday that a thread be closed because an answer had already been provided, but it just kept going on. But it wasn't closed until today when staff were now available to see my request. In the meantime it did stop on its own.
Can always just stop responding if you lost interest and eventually the threads die on their own.

And if someone brings it back after 3 days then I am going to ask for it to be closed.
Or if it devolves into a lot of the same things being said over and over even after an answer has been provided, then I am going to ask for it to be closed.
Others may do it differently but this is how I choose to handle these situations.

Once a thread has been derailed constructive discussion has already stopped.

They often will get back on track or bring up new discussion. It's kind of not something a thread starter should get to decide alone, in my opinion, just because they don't like the discussion.

It's not just because they don't like the discussion. I have found that once a thread has derailed it is almost impossible to get it back on topic, as is evident in this very thread.
I was concerned that the forum staff were affected by the layoffs. It now seems that all is ok, at least for now. Discussing whether or not posts should be locked doesn't add anything constructive to the discussion.
Well, you said this thread was created because you wanted them to close one of your threads faster than had happened (within a few hours of your asking), which led to this discussion.

They may be a tad busy.
SilverBride wrote: »I understand that. I just hoped it wasn't because they were running on less staff now, too.

No, I didn't. I said:SilverBride wrote: »I haven't seen any mods on today and my request to close a thread I made that has been answered hasn't happened yet.
To which you replied:They may be a tad busy.
And I replied:SilverBride wrote: »I understand that. I just hoped it wasn't because they were running on less staff now, too.
My responses are all directly in response to the thread topic, which is "Were any forum staff laid off, too?"
I'm not sure how that changes that you said the thread was prompted by your thread not being closed, resulting in you checking whether they logged in and finally creating this thread asking if any have been laid off.
If there is any difference to be had, it doesn't seem material. Anyway as was said glad a moderator logged in to close your thread.

I never said my thread was prompted by a thread not being closed. What prompted me was not seeing any moderators online. The thread not being closed was just another reason for concern.
So let's just leave it at that, and be glad that the forum staff seem to be ok.
