Were any forum staff laid off, too?

Seems unnecessarily high maintenance for something that fixes itself but not really my staff at stake lol.

I just checked yesterday and then again today out of concern for what is going on with the layoffs. Then awhile ago I saw my thread from yesterday was closed and was relieved to see that all seems well for the forum staff.

They often will get back on track or bring up new discussion. It's kind of not something a thread starter should get to decide alone, in my opinion, just because they don't like the discussion.

I always thought this way too.

Once a topic is started, I feel it belongs to the community as a whole and it should only be closed for reasons that the mods decide objectively.

The OP losing interest shouldn't abruptly halt a topic for everyone.

It's not just because they don't like the discussion. I have found that once a thread has derailed it is almost impossible to get it back on topic, as is evident in this very thread.

I was concerned that the forum staff were affected by the layoffs. It now seems that all is ok, at least for now. Discussing whether or not posts should be locked doesn't add anything constructive to the discussion.

I'm not sure how that changes that you said the thread was prompted by your thread not being closed, resulting in you checking whether they logged in and finally creating this thread asking if any have been laid off.

If there is any difference to be had, it doesn't seem material. Anyway as was said glad a moderator logged in to close your thread.

I never said my thread was prompted by a thread not being closed. What prompted me was not seeing any moderators online, which I noticed first. The thread not being closed was just another reason for concern.

So let's just leave it at that, and be glad that the forum staff seem to be ok.

We don't. We have a thread wondering if any forum staff were hit by the layoffs. They are part of the team, too. The only way to know if some were affected is to ask and/or see if they have been here moderating.

Wondering about the well being of ALL the staff isn't weird or stalking.

We don't. We have a thread wondering if any forum staff were hit by the layoffs. They are part of the team, too. The only way to know if some were affected is to ask and/or see if they have been here moderating.

They probably cannot comment on this for HR and privacy reasons. Unlike people disclosing themselves on social media that they left the company, or a public report listing job titles, asking about the employment status of specific lower-level employees is not something we are entitled to.

Also if they were not laid off but previously fired or quit, none of that is information we should expect.

I feel like when we are of the opinion that a discussion on a forum needs to halt, we should think twice before asking the mods. Especially now they have to do the same work with less people.

Most discussions naturally meet their end. It doesn't always need to be cut short with a lock.

I used to agree with this, and never asked to have a thread closed. But if a thread is repeatedly derailed away from the topic it is too far gone to be constructive. In that case I will ask for it to be closed.
