Another guild sending unsolicited Guild invites

I hope they invite me. My dark mind could use a new guild to corrupt and decay. All the other ones fell to darkness in a week. I have no idea why.

That thread ended in January saying to watch it and wait for a post from Kevin - did that ever happen? The thread said it would be in that thread but that didn't happen.

Not sure if there was clarification as to whether sending out random invites is permitted, though that seemed to be more complicated due to accusations of botting if I remembre.

The solution should be to add the toggle. If the end result of someone getting a guild invite is the story of this thread, the end result is apparently very toxic interactions and this is bad for the community and the reputation of it's playerbase.

Post #70 in that thread is where we were directed to take a screenshot and place a ticket, so that if some of these were bots they could take care of them. And if they were other players they could have a chat with them to see what is going on. And they want to reduce harassment.

That is why when I saw a similar situation suddenly arise I did just that. I took screenshots and placed a ticket, then brought to Kevin's attention that this had happened, and asked if there was something we could do to stop it.

I was following what we had previously been instructed to do.

The consistency of your narrative is slipping.
First you said that a "sorry for bothering you" would have been the end if it. Now you claim that you are just reporting because it has been suggested by ZOS in another thread.
Let's be honest: You hit the report button, because someone had the audacity to talk back, question your "authority" and refused to roll over. That's what hurt your ego, so you decided to teach them a lesson by reporting them and of course start a thread on the forum, telling ZOS that you have opened a ticket.(wohoo!)

As some people have pointed out, you can just ignore those spammers and there is even an add on available to you that completely shuts down all invites. But creating drama is more important than pragmatic solutions.

How rude, wrong and condescending some of the comments here are.

This reminds me of tbagging. If it bothers me and I ask the tbagger to stop, but they ignore my request and keep doing their ***, then they have crossed a line, will get reported, and might get banned. Disclaimer: it doesn't bother me and I happen to tbag others from time to time.

The same rule applies here IMHO. If someone whispers guild info to me and invites me, and I decline and ask them to stop sending me invites, but they keep refusing to respect my decision, then they have crossed a line, will get reported, and might get banned. It is as simple as that, end of story.

But did you read the whole post? The OP didn't say they got another invite after asking them to stop, the OP said the person responded say no you're not my mum. It's just a petty argument that's been blown up to get someone banned or whatever, People need to stop being so offended by every little thing. At this point they might as well remove chat all together from the game just in case some gets emotional.

I do have this habit of reading people's posts before replying, yes. And to me it is clear that this 'petty argument' and 'little thing' is yet another in a big series of some players spamming guild invites and disrupting other players' experience. It's a snowball effect, and the OP is right to act fast to document it as the most effective way of preventing this from continuing.

People need to stop being so dismissive of others and portraying others as overreacting softies. Guild invite spam doesn't bother you? Good for you, and I'm happy for you. It doesn't bother me either; I just decline straight away and move on (we don't have this issue on PC EU, or on a much smaller scale, or perhaps it is happening in overcrowded places like Vivec City that I tend to avoid as much as possible). But that doesn't give you or me some kind of moral superiority or 'I know best' ticket to be telling others how they "should" feel about some aspects of the ESO community.

In Cyrodiil EU, there is this one very well-known player, who spams group invites. I joined his PuG once to see how it works; it doesn't, so I quit very fast and will never again join his group. This dude just keeps spamming invites. The moment he crosses you on the map, you receive an invite. The moment you type something in the zone chat, you receive an invite. I have declined hundreds of his invites and yet he continues sending them back immediately—not once, not twice, it's literally a cascade. I saw other players asking in chat "how many 'no's' you need to stop inviting me?". But he never stops. Also, he's rude, every day several times per day insulting his faction for being stupid (e.g., BLUE NO BRAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!), and he only ever types in caps. This guy is an annoyance, although it's also funny in a way. So when I get fed up, I put him on ignore. It never crossed my mind to report this guy; why would I? I mostly feel some kind of pity. Now, if there were more people like him, that would be a different story. One such guy is just an annoyance, an exception, but several like him would be pretty disruptive, and in such a case I would consider taking action, like taking screenshots and reporting a bunch of spammers. And requesting a toggle.

One case can be tolerated, but if you see that disruptive behavior starts to spread and there are more and more people taking part in it, then it is only right to try and do something to stop it from becoming the norm.

Not the OP, nor have I reported anyone for invites, but I don't see what's inconsistent about this? ZOS has said that if you're bothered by someone's behaviour, you ask them to stop and if they don't, it may constitute harassment or whatever. So obviously players who don't want to be harassed are expected to ask people to stop if they don't like something. I don't get offended about many things, but if something does offend me, I don't want to have to put up with it timidly.

Honestly I don't see what's so controversial about this. If someone asked me to stop messaging them, I'd stop.

I did actually get a message invite to a guild the other day, I didn’t get a guild invite pop-up but I’m in 5 guilds so that would be why. I wonder if it’s the same guild. They were trying to get their guild off the ground and were looking for admins. I got mine in Alinor and I saw the person sitting there again recently, but they didn’t message me again after I nicely told them I’m already GM of a guild so I cannot help them.

Edit: if it is the same guild, then I understand why they’re recruiting the way they are and there’s nothing objectively wrong with their method. HOWEVER, the reply to you is wildly unprofessional. I support that we should have a way to turn off guild invites. We already can by having 5 guilds, let people turn off guild invites without joining 5 random guilds and taking up a spot that another player, one who would interact with the guild, could inhabit.

It sounds like the same guild. And it seems they are doing this at multiple locations so they could have multiple members doing this.

I do find something wrong with their method because it is very much like what the other guild was doing which caused a lot of distress in the community.

Ahha, what a shame. I empathize because it's hard to get a new guild off the ground but already showing so much unprofessionalism is yikes. But yeah, fair, if it became commonplace for people to dm then that could get very obtrusive very fast. I did wonder since I haven't been messaged again since if they were using a similar method as [the other guild we vague about].

I can imagine how hard it is to grow a new guild, especially in a game like ESO, where many players are solo, uninterested in grouping, and unwilling to join guilds unless it is for trading. It makes me think that guilds that are using this spam invites and sent DMs strategy are completely out of touch with a good chunk of the ESO playerbase, and they are just alienating themselves, causing more people to hold a grudge against them than actually join and remain in their guild. I can think of at least one strategy that I believe would be more efficient, perhaps more time-consuming, but without risking being blacklisted by players who feel harassed, and who may spread the word so more players become wary. I think it's just a very counterproductive strategy, perhaps causing more harm than good.

There is no inconsistency in my posts. The player whispered me their guild recruitment message, which was fine. But then they immediately sent an invite without even asking if I was interested. I responded by asking them to not send me unsolicited invites to which they replied angrily telling me I'm not their Mom etc. and they will do what they want, which shows the intention to keep doing it anyway. So I reported it.

If they had said something like "sorry for bothering you", that indicates that they didn't mean to irritate or offend and would not do it again, in which case I would have considered the incident resolved and that would have been the end of it.

There was no ego or authority. Just a player asking another not to do something that bothers them personally. Reacting with anger rather than empathy isn't a good way to recruit members.

You also have a solution that doesn't require contacting the devs for help - blocking. A feature they added so we can use it all on our own.

Still, this is a story about pre-emptive reporting. She said repeatedly that she wasn't in fact invited again (I'm not sure why she would be, who would want to add someone to their guild after a conflict before they even joined?) She reported in case it happens again in the future - but it didn't happen.

I question the devs instructions to report people for sending guild invites. To me it just adds to an unwelcoming environment if the moderation team reaches out to players to ask why they are guild recruiting in a way that happens regularly in other MMOs but apparently is not allowed here. I understood wanting help removing bots, but this was a live player behind the screen.

I've explained what my issue is and why I responded as I did. Not everyone will agree with it and that is fine, but I am not wrong for bringing this to Kevin's attention, especially in light of the similar issue that we had to deal with for 10 years.

And I did block this player but that doesn't mean I have to just let it go and risk another guild starting the same thing.

Well I would appreciate clarification if they wanted reports specifically in regards to that one guild that had long threads about it, or if they want reports every single time a guild invite is sent by ANY guild, even brand new ones that aren't around 10 years.

If their policy is that they want these reports, and then will contact guild recruiters to reprimand them - I'd suggest this would come across as pretty unwelcoming to people just trying to build a community in game. And if so, then yes they should just add the toggle rather than create a game culture where players constantly report each other and escalate conflict.

I think they're just trying to keep spamming and harassment down, so I'm pretty sure they'll exercise judgement in deciding how to approach each of these cases. Reporting doesn't mean automatic censuring, surely.

Whether they ask for reports or not, if they receive them then it may stir them into adding the toggle that would resolve the issue - which blocking won't do as other guild members won't be affected by it.

As the group of guilds that caused all the grief and harassment in the first place seems to have stopped their original bot-based recruitment, we can assume that they will be looking at other recruitment methods and players will doubtless want to ensure that those methods don't lead to other forms of grief and harassment.

They were already doing zone chat advertisements in tandem with the “bot” adverts, though they seemed to have changed their messaging and now I see the GM in zone too. The guild-specific account I still see in the bank, dunno what it’s doing.
