It also never ceases to baffle me when people talk about "realism" in a fantasy setting. I guess dragons, magic, enchanted items, undead creatures like vampires and so on seem more realistic to some than gender equality.
Every good fantasy has a strong link to reality. We find pure fantasy to be unrealistic. Our minds do not have the resources or desire to suspend belief completely; its very taxing. Fantasy realms are easier to assimilate with when we have a firm foundation of association with what we already know as believable.0 -
