To Devs: Aetheric Lancer QOL Suggestion

Hey team,

The Aetheric Lancer set would really benefit from the AoE being placed on the caster rather than around the enemy. As it stands right now, the AoE is unreliable and, in a lot of situations, gets placed in a deadly AoE that makes an unnecessary game of "is it worth getting?" The set should feel good rather than introduce a mini-game that can potentially punish you for having the set equipped.

The developers did a great job at balancing this set, and while I'm excited for it, the actual use of the set could use one easy but game-changing alteration.

I don't think this is asking for a lot, and this would make a lot of players excited about using the set rather than making arguments about practicality. I'm really enjoying the templar changes so far (aside from the fact we need way more damage in PvP), and this would make me truly excited about Update 50. I would really hate for this suggestion to get lost in the endless scroll of changes needed for templar to feel competitive.

Thank you :)

I’ve been trying to get someone/anyone’s attention on this for a year.

The “go touch it mechanic” is unusable - it’s either in stupid or embedded in a massive hit box where it can’t be found.

Would be amazing if it just came down on your target and did damage in a tiny AoE area (like the visual already appears) WITHOUT the touching it mechanic.

I absolutely agree! I think just having it do its damage in an AoE (with probably bigger radius too) would be really nice. I'm forced to set my dummy in weird corners of a house just so the AoE doesnt land on the other side of the dummy.

Yeah it has to many proc conditions, all skills should proc it and not just class skills like they did to the warden set.

If you're gonna have the aoe spawn on you, then why not just replace it entirely with a short self buff the player can consume.

ZOS has a twisted sense of humour with some of these sets.

Monolith of Storms for example, a stationary shock proc for the most mobile skill line in the game.

I can only think similar flawed reasoning was used for this set and their whole "Templar builds a temple" playstyle they like to make, but nearly everything about Aedric Spear is about being a mobile brawler, not a stationary brute, so it's in direct conflict with itself for an unfun experience.

How about just remove the "stand in aoe" condition altogether. It won't even make templar op, it'll just make it slightly below competitive. Especially because jabs is too weak in the current PvP meta (people are so fast they can walk out of jabs), and templar doesn't have good sustain with an average PvE parse (right now with 100% uptime of Lancer on a dummy, around 170K in a 180K meta).

(5 items) Dealing damage with an Aedric Spear ability launches a spear at your target, dealing 1684 Magic Damage and applying Sundered and increasing your Weapon and Spell Damage by 300 for 6 seconds. This effect can occur once every 6 seconds. The damage scales off the higher of your Weapon or Spell Damage.

Sold… it’s playable then and not OP

There's also something to be said about set simplicity, and minimizing it's impact on the servers. (However small it might be) Just removing the AoE condition completely would be my recommendation. If you must keep it, make it larger, and spawn on us rather than the enemy.

This sounds like a great change 😊👌
