.. is the reason I am enjoying the game right now, and it seems to be doing less damage on the PTS. I can't see the reason why it needed the nerf (to be fair -- I haven't gotten into the specifics on why it's weaker yet) especially when an ability like Fatecarver exists. With my solo build I actually gimp myself by using it, the other morph is better for hitting that penetration cap (instanced content) but it's just so damn fun, and hits quite hard when it fully ramps. Please consider not nerfing it @ZOS_Kevin having such a blast with pure class DK.

Are you using velothi neck or tideborn / deadly etc? if so then that would explain it - they mentioned already that there was a nerf but there will also be a rebalance however it still needs to actually happen.

It's doing less damage because whip lost the 15/14% damage buff. Pretty much every DK including all the subclassed builds that use ardent flame took this hit. I think the long term plan since the DK rework came out was that the 15% buff was a stop gap for pure class passives, altho it doesn't work as well on breath builds as it does on whip builds

Are engulfing set ups running talons it’s a 5 second dot so might allow to make up some ground to whip set ups?

Yes, pretty sure the Hyper build I used did. Breath parsed well on a stationary dummy, but in content, the melee aspect/range of breath was quite limited for me. Still probably stronger than heavy attacks but arcanist beams were more comfortable. I have also played arc more, so that is probably part of it.

Breath builds are getting zos'd from multiple directions. Welcome to the heavy attack enjoyers struggle.

There's a reason I picked Arcanist and now this. My carpal tunnel syndrome thanks me whenever I have to take a break from the stupid weaving. @ZOS_Kevin please, this has to do with accessibility too.

Honestly the DK rework was not good in my opinion. Takes away poison, shorten timers on skills like Searing Claw, hearthfire only heals with no option to do damage, standard of might is now a group ultimate and now we lose 15% damage on Whip. Pre update 49 Dragonknight was waaay better and i think ZoS should revert the changes. I feel like im playing the way Pyromancer fans want instead of my own Dragonknight fantasy as a Fire/Poison status effect Demon

Yes, currently Arcanist was the only viable decent choice for me. Heavy attacks just have too low of cleave and damage output anymore. Arcanist was actually less stress on the hands and wrists than heavy attack builds, making it feel easier.

I was a casual DK, so I cannot compare too much. I had an Imperial DK tank and Breton DK healer. I turned the Breton into a heavy attack messing with voidmantle, but it still didn't feel very good. DK were one of the strongest ST dps prior to the buffs as it were it seemed. I do enjoy the breath build for something different, but the short range is an issue for most fights unless I just need to get used to it.

At this point I don't even think their going to change anything back so I give up and stopped caring earlier this morning lol. ZoS butchered the DK and I don't want to play other classes because I have already but really like the Dragonknight. Oh well I guess

I main dk and I’d say it’s still a fun class to play. Its kit currently better synergizes with fire. However one caveat I’m not too happy about thanks to meta hoppers overusing dk until next class becomes flavor of the month wildfire embers will be receiving adjustments during week 3.

It happens all the time, same with assassination's spectral bow nerfs after subclassing.

My main issue is people looking at the game without considering in about a yrs time virtually every class will be reworked. Leave dk where it is and in the interim between the refreshes buff under performing classes with stop gap measures like the removed whip buffs on both morphs. Balancing the game around what it currently is versus where it’s going will just lead us back to square one. The dk has set the bench mark everything should be brought to that level instead of bringing it down due to current imbalance.
