What is not clicking to people that some people use companions for roleplay reasons in an RPG
But how does using a companion as part of your RP mean that you cannot say equip them with less efficient gear or change some skills they use? Or for that matter spend time apart from them while you fight something alone?

You can't just say "because RP" and hope it's an explanation, because it isn't. Your companions can be given specific gear and sets to suit your character, so why isn't it possible for a RPer to do that?

People are implying ITT that there's no reason to use companions other than to relieve difficulty...

i would say can just turn off the companion if you dont want them out on higher difficulties

in general companions are at best slightly helpful tanks/healers and basically not useful at all in any kind of dlc dungeon, they can handle most non dlc dungeons alright but yeah in general they are nothing more than slightly more glorified pets
    plays PC/NA

    active player since april 2014

i have my main house (grand topal hideaway) listed in the housing tours, it has multiple target dummies, scribing altar, and grandmaster stations (fully filled out with current game), as well as almost every antiquity furnishing on display to preview them

in progress: acquiring mundus stones (currently only have the thief)

feel free to stop by and use the facilities

Well some players like having a companion that can fight well when they're needed, so it's understandable that they won't want their companions weakened. We all play ESO our own way, so their needs are as valid as yours.

But that doesn't answer my question. You have the options to reduce the power of your companions if you wish. Or not bring them to a battle. Why aren't those enough? What else is it that you need here?

Companions could not be more optional. They shouldn't be nerfed when they're already bad and need serious improvements to their AI.

Why are you asking me that question when I'm telling you I'm responding to people implying there's no reason to run companions other than to relieve difficulty?

I don't personally want companions nerfed lmao. I'm not on the ''nerf companions side'' because I made a point criticizing a dumb point ''that side'' was making.
