Should base game overland difficulty be taken on par with DLC overland difficulty?

THIS IS A SEPARATE ISSUE FROM U50 CHALLENGE DIFFICULTY! It needs a different solution.

I enjoy DLC overland difficulty, being able to solo it, but base game overland difficulty is what's boring.
I don't want to switch Challenge Difficulty on/off every time I travel to a different zone: Challenge difficulty on level 2 in base game overland will be very different than Challenge difficulty on level 2 in DLCs - to me this is a problem.

If base game overland difficulty would be taken on par with DLC overland difficulty, I probably wouldn't even need to put Challenge difficulty on level 2 and I'd just stick to the default difficulty. To me it's just base game overland that is too easy (causing problems where a delve boss dies in 1 second).

So, ASIDE FROM U50 CHALLENGE DIFFICULTY, should base game overland difficulty be taken on par with DLC overland difficulty?

I would actually do the opposite and set DLC overland difficulty base to match base game overland difficulty. That way the people who for whatever reason like the difficulty level of base game overland (yes, they do exist) can set it to level 1 and have their preferred difficulty, while someone who thinks DLC overland is ideal could set it to level 2.

It should but base game content is powercrept mechanics-wise. No matter how much damage and health you give to world bosses, they will always feel just like these elite mobs in dungeons/trials. Most of them don't have this boss aura when you fight them

New players will start wherever they want, so there doesn’t need to be a progression. However, newer world bosses are much more difficult to solo and with how dead most zones are, that could be a problem if all world bosses were all buffed.

DLC world bosses are indeed stronger than base game world bosses, but the normal mobs that populate DLC overland aren't really any harder than base game overland mobs.

The same goes for DLC quest bosses; they aren't really any harder than base game ones. It's not really a straight and clear non-DLC vs DLC split.

I think base game should stay as is.

My first weeks playing this game I actually died a few times while soloing quests and stuff. If new players do the game in order, these zones should be for learning.

We have so many DLC zones that I'm fine with being harder though.

    AN IMPORTANT NOTE:

Years ago ESO as a whole was more difficult than what it is now and not because of powercreep: I didn't know this myself but I've seen videos of the same base game, story boss fought years ago and fought today with a totally new character - it was WAY HARDER back then, while today is almost impossible to fail.

I put this info out because veteran players may have missed it and still base their opinion on memories of an experience that isn't there anymore.

If you don't believe me look it up, but it's the consequence of a series of updates.

As has already been said, its mainly the world bosses that had their difficult increased in more recent DLCs to the point where most require a group to take down.

Most overland creatures are about the same whether in a DLC or base game.

I don't want to see anything changed with base game overland. If anything I'd like to see DLC overland on par with the base game zones.

We have difficulty options coming so players can increase the base game difficulty with that without forcing it on those that don't want it.

Delves and Public Dungeons are more difficult too.

Story quest bosses in High Isle and onward are way more difficult than those of base game, that's for sure, otherwise we wouldn't have threads of people complaining they find them too difficult.

    That's an insightful PoV I didn't consider, thanks :)
I don't know if, the way you described, Challenge Difficulty level 2 would result in making everything at DLC overland difficulty or something different... What I wouldn't want is deleting what's DLC overland difficulty today to have an easier and a harder option - I think that's fairly balanced today.

This is a good point, and maybe that is why I remember having challenges on my first character. I have a specific memory of dying on a boat doing a quest in Khenarthis' roost of all places where there were maybe 5 or 6 trash mobs close together that mowed me down.

Today those same mobs might not even do damage lol.

Really it's only the bosses that are more difficult. Currently I can solo some of the base game bosses, and I want to keep it that way.
