You get 5 new ones every week, and completed ones drop from your list. You can get a max of 12 active challenges at any time.A little update:
Couldn't bring myself to mine more than 20 ores (no surveys left) and the challenge actually carried over to this week
Now I have it as a sixth challenge (1/6 claimed, progress 5/15). I wonder whether that will continue to carry over until I finally finish it, or if there is a limit to either the number of weekly challenges or how long you can take to do them.
On another note: Got another "gather a silly amount of mats" this week and rerolled. Got "Kill 20 Daedra" instead, which I already had. Every daedra I killed in the IC sewers counted for both challenges. Quick and easy.

The big thing here is that this system, unlike Endeavors, actually allows people to take their time. Sure, knock out the easy challenges. But for those that will take a bit, you are able to complete it organically instead of grinding it in one week. See also the “kill 1000 enemies,” which gives us over 90 days to finish.
This is something about ESO’s playerbase is that they are generally very grind-happy. A lot of things ZOS has released in the past that were huge grinds (levelling Subclassing, collecting 500 ink and all Scripts) were designed to be long-term projects that players would take about a year to do, and be ready for the next feature then. But the players instead see something they need to churn out in 20 minutes, complain endlessly about how boring and grindy it is, and then complain that they have nothing to do after they finish it.
So yeah, absolutely take your time with the Challenges, don’t stress and try to minmax the points (mathematically, even if you do only the cheapest challenges, you’ll still have more than enough points to buy all free-tier things and have the 2k carryover, and a number of those points will be lost), and just do things when you feel like it. Taking it slower = less burnout = not a second job = more fun with this game.

How about "yes" to both questions? Uncompleted weekly challenges will carry over from week-to-week until they are completed, rerolled, or we reach the end of the season. But yes, they are capped at 12 active at any time.
My understanding is that once you make any progress on a weekly challenge, you're stuck with it. It cannot be rerolled and it will not drop off and be replaced the following week.
You can reroll as long as you haven't claimed any part of a challenge, yes.I wonder whether that will continue to carry over until I finally finish it, or if there is a limit to either the number of weekly challenges or how long you can take to do them.

You can still reroll them. I made the mistake of gathering 1 of each gather type and was afraid I was stuck with gathering, but I was able to reroll them.

No, I checked on one of several I have progress in, trial, dungeon and some node gathering one. I'm 1/x on them and thw reroll option does not appear. It would also be exploitable if you could reroll them , because you could get a bunch of tome points then get something fresh.PeacefulAnarchy wrote: »You can reroll as long as you haven't claimed any part of a challenge, yes.I wonder whether that will continue to carry over until I finally finish it, or if there is a limit to either the number of weekly challenges or how long you can take to do them.

You can reroll even if you claimed part. I claimed one "Alchemy Gather" and pretty sure I got rid of it still. I could be wrong, I had so many gathering quests I am not sure I had enough rerolls. If anyone can provide insight that would be great.

EDIT: I just logged in - you are correct. You can only reroll if you haven't claimed any points. So you can start a challenge and reroll it, but if you collect points you seem stuck with it. No reroll option...
This needs to be updated for sure. I really regret collecting 1 of my Alchemy gathers as I guess I'll have this for the rest of the season now.

Why on earth would you want this? Don't give them ideas, please. That would directly devalue the rewards in the tomes. Personally, if I have to micromanage and minmax the tome point system, I'm not inclined to even participate. Why would I want to gamble for points every single week? Only to open a tome and get... rerolls so I can get more tome points or not? That's replacing the daily login and endeavors system with something far WORSE.
