Expiration for tome points and tome point caches?

If I had known only 2000 would carry over I wouldn't have opened my caches because I seriously don't think I will spend all these. I put in a ticket and asked if they could be put back into caches. This should have been explained much better and in a very prominent place. I hope they help those of us that weren't aware of this when this system went live today and place our points back into our caches so we don't lose them.

It seems I'm FUBAR, because I've opened all my caches, including premium, AND already spent most points on collectibles, so I have 8 pages open and 1392 points left. This is day 2.

This info about max 2000 points saved should be on the welcoming page zero. Written with big red letters and flashing. Replace the info about DK and 2H changes if not enough place, we know them for 3 weeks already. Really critical info should be in priority, because it involves real money payments.

Do my points reset even if I purchase premium? Having a tome available doesn't make any sense if there are no points, right? Or every tome has its own unique points (they are not unique in my currency list though), and 2000 can be moved to the next, and others remain in the previous?

I made the mistake of opening all my caches I should have held off. Got 7 from my annual subscription, 2 from the premium upgrade, earned a further 2000 points doing the current challenges to unlock all the pages of the tome.

Spent 18K of them, getting everything I either wanted or thought held value from the tome, holding 2K in reserve and will continue earning some points and buy anything else that caught my eye in the tome before the season rollover, while aiming to have 2K left.

Add me to the list of people who opened the caches (seven I think) because I never noticed any communication giving me any reason to suspect Tome Points might expire. I even checked the Tome Points in the Currency tab before opening the Caches, to see if there was a cap or anything. There is no indication there that Tome Points behave differently from all the other currencies in the list.

At first glance there isn't anything I am interested in buying in the current season, so all of that bar the 2000 carry-over will be lost. I suppose I'll have to spend what I can on Seals and Trade Bars. Looks like that would somewhat salvage 4200/14,000 at least.

Hey, on the positive side, there's absolutely no reason anymore to spend any thought on completing any of the challenges this season!

I'm very interested to hear the result of SilverBride's ticket. Though they're probably swamped with tickets due to all the changes, so I probably should not wait to submit my own.

Yikes, opened all 12 of my caches as well within the first hour of the update. I didn't see any mention of expiration, or if only a bit would be carried over, that doesn't seem fair or make any sense. I bought a year of plus, you're telling me you're going to screw us over in 3 months because none of that was explained properly? All I've collected were the trade bars and that might be all I collect. I'm sitting at 21k points. Anyone successful with support putting those back into caches yet?

Oh my!! like most of you I have opened up all but 2 tome caches. I got 16k tome points left to spend (bought premium+bonus), yikes, well 14k since I can carry-forward 2000 tome points. There seems many of us who did not realize we would loose the tome points at the end of the season. Give them time as they will need to address this scenario, hopefully.

Again, I don’t know precisely, but this is how many other season pass games work:

The free and Premium versions of the tome are the same, so if you are earning Points on the free track and then decide a month later to buy Premium, that changes nothing except giving you more things you can buy with the points.

When the season ends, any unspent Points up to 2000 are given to the next Tome and any more are lost. It is therefore a good idea to spend Points before the season ends to get the most value out of them.

That's because they weren't doing one last money grab before heading into maintenance mode!

What still is not clear to me is that when the season ends and you have bought the premium version, can you just use tome points from any season, or will you keep getting weekly tasks in the premium old tome?

I'd like to know why these points expire at the end of the season anyway. What good reason is there for not just carrying all our points over?

It seems to me that there are 2 options here to fix this issue. Put our points back into caches or change it so that points never expire.

Either way something needs to be done.

Well. This whole time system is basically copy-pasta from fallout76 seasons system, and the currency equivalent to tome points (they call it score points there) works exactly the same way there. Meaning, whatever points you don’t use, they expire at the end of the season.

While you're correct they copied 76, though I would argue not enough. They really need to do better on rewards and the UI. But coming in 76, at the end of every season, they will convert your remaining tickets (points) to gold bullion. It only took them 8 years to do it but ya know, better late than never. The closest currency we have here would be trade bars. I don't see them giving us more of those. They want us to engage with content to get them, especially tomes.

Agree. This is pretty standard battle pass stuff and the 2k they'll roll over is great. If you are someone who unknowingly opened a bunch of caches, submit a ticket and then maybe list it here and ping Kevin or Jessica. They didn't explain it well and you're not the only one. Ive given this same advice to guildmates.

I think I have the Tomes worked out now and how to deal with them. As it's just cosmetic items that make no difference to gameplay, I won't be purchasing any premium ones at all, so that's going to save me money. ESO+ is already mandatory to get the best out of the game, and that will be the limit of my expense, so for me, the game has now got a lot cheaper to play.

I will play the game as normal and occasionally see if there is anything I want to buy with my tome points that I've earned in-game. If they are going to disappear, then I'll use them to buy seals and junk, leaving 2000 at the end of the period.

How this is going to make money for ZOS is beyond me, I don't think they are going to make as much as they did with the Chapters or the Content Pass and expect this to change again in the future either back to Chapters or Content Pass.

Even if we apply "this is standart battlepass" argument, expiring currency purchased with real money is bad and should not have been implemented. This argument doesn't make it any acceptable, only proves the "standart battlepass" is as bad.

We already have a currency we can earn both for free and for crowns - crown gems. We deconstruct items from crates, they can be free and paid. Imagine your crown gems expire every new crates rotation. Doesn't sound good, ya?

I also opened 12 Caches and already got most of the things I wanted, so now I’m left with 25k tome points. I will continue doing all the weekly challenges, so pretty much I’m sure I will end the season with 20k+ tomes left, converting into 2k.. doesn’t sound fair. I’ve submitted the ticket to transfer the tomes back into Caches, hopefully this is somehow possible.

Their should be a buy back option where we can convert unspent tome points back into tome caches even if there is a fee to do so. Like maybe 100 tome points for every 2k converted.

Glad a mod closed my thread so I could find this post! (not sarcastic, I literally didn't know this thread existed)

Not happy that I'll be losing 8k+ tome points at Season end. From the game that makes us have an addon to auto-acknowledge all the "ARE YOU SURE" popups.

I'm surprised how little outrage there is over this, given how many ESO+ players opened all their caches yesterday,.

I apologize for not reading the help files, not playing another MMO, not reading every forum and reddit post, and not being in a guild where this was mentioned yesterday.

TO BE CLEAR: If this is how Tome Points work... ok I guess. But this should have been more clearly communicated. And also, I think it's a terrible mechanic, especially since many players will be losing an entire year worth of "benefits".

Not really. I left the first one long before battle passes were even a thing and the second one some time in 2018 when battle passes were not that widespread in games yet (at least I think they weren't).

i think the implementation of the tomes is OK, but there are definitely some pain points i have with them

i dont think the tome points themselves should expire period, since we have to spend it like currency to get rewards (other games battlepasses just reward you the items in the track once you reach the threshold), this is different than just earning tome points to unlock the later pages which is perfectly fine

theres also no warnings for claiming things like transmutes when your already at the cap (literally will just waste your points), or if you already know a motif

the other thing thats absolutely painful is all of the freaking bound furnishings, some furnishings from the tome are bound and some are not and personally im sick and tired of bound furnishings because i DONT WANT them (this goes for event ones too like the jester or jubillee ones)

ZoS got rid of a capped currency, only to add an expiring one. One Step Forward, Two Steps Back.

I don't CARE if this is how battle passes work. There's a reason many of us broke out in hives when ZoS first uttered the phrase "battle pass." One of the reasons I started with ESO is the lack of battle passes, and it's one of the reasons I've kept playing for years. I've never played any other MMO with battle passes, deliberately.

As the tomes work now, excepting the TP expiration, I'm fine with it. It has aspects I like, aspects I don't (mentioned elsewhere), but it's a pretty good start. But for the love of Akatosh, PLEASE don't undo the good work by adding expiring currencies!

This was my take as well. Using tome points you currently have to buy stuff in any season you own. A weird system to be sure but not a bad one.

If you get a good outcome, please do share that. I'm feeding info into a bunch of discords, and many people are pulling their hair out about this, and if I can tell them to put in a support ticket, that would help a lot.

It may be difficult to put the tome points back in their bags if there's no way to re-lock the pages they unlocked, as well remove purchased items from those pages that would get re-locked.
