Subject: High Seas = Best time to finally bring back the Lilmothiit? (No Retcon needed)

With the "High Seas of Tamriel" event confirmed for the summer, I can’t be the only one thinking about the "extinct" races again. ZOS keeps saying they want to give us "experimental and varied content" this year—so why not finally address the fox-sized elephant in the room? The Lilmothiit.
I know, I know... "But they died to the Knahaten Flu in 2E 560!"
Hear me out on the logic:
We don't need a retcon. If the Maormer can hide in Pyandonea for eras, it’s 100% plausible a tribe of Lilmothiit dipped out of Black Marsh before the plague hit and found some unmapped islands in the Padomaic Ocean.
Since we’re getting Naval Battles and Underwater Exploration, it’s the perfect gameplay loop to "rediscover" them. Imagine sailing into a mist-shrouded zone and finding a sea-faring culture of fox-folk who’ve been isolated for centuries. It fits the "High Seas" vibe perfectly.
Why this works for 2026:
1. Visuals: We have enough "humans in slightly different armor." A beast race would actually make the world feel diverse again.
2. The "Rumors" System: They could tease this via the new Morrowind-style rumor quests. Just some whispers in the taverns about "agile, furred sailors" spotted near the southern coasts.
3. Companions: Even if making them a playable race is "too much work" for the current engine (we all know the struggle with capes/tails), at least give us a Lilmothiit Companion.
ZOS, you gave us the ocean, now give us a reason to explore the deeps beyond just another set of dailies.
What do you guys think? Is the "Island Refuge" theory too far-fetched, or is it time ZOS stopped playing it safe with the lore?

Considering we have several characters from different time periods in ESO, I don't see why we can't have at least one Lilmothiit.

Granted, we'll see a lot more of them if ZOS manages to make their model, kind of like how other Khajiit furstocks can be found outside of Elsweyr. I don't see why not to introduce Lilmothiit — it would certainly get people talking about the game.

I do want them in the game fo sho. People will go after your throat and say “but they’re extiiiiiiinct”, when it’s only speculated that they are. It’s never been concrete whether or not they’re truly gone.

I'd love to see Lilmothiit, since yeah it's only speculated that they died out. There's no reason we can't have tribes that lived outside of Black Marsh; it's not like there haven't been pockets of other Races living outside their native lands before. And we see individuals of numerous races outside their native lands too, not just groups.

I doubt we'll ever get more playable Races, which sucks, but at least seeing some ingame would be cool.

It wouldn't be the first time survivors of an "extinct" race have been seen in an ES game.

Personally, I'd enjoy seeing Lilmothiit in this game (or Sinistral Mer, for that matter). I also expect there to be more Maormer NPCs introduced with the High Seas additions. Both would be great. (I'd love it even more if we could play one, even though I know some people would complain about it not being lore friendly.)

Exactly! I think Lilmothiit could actually share the Khajiit's base skeleton and animations. With some clever tweaks to their morphs, ear shapes, and unique hairstyles, it wouldn't be a massive technical hurdle. Adding a new playable race would show that ESO is willing to blaze its own trail, rather than just playing it safe within the old Elder Scrolls framework. I’m really keeping my fingers crossed for them!

I'm sure race change tokens would be selling like wildfire too if they were to introduce a never-before seen race.

I don't think that it'd make sense to have hundreds of new Lilmothiit running around Tamriel as playable, only interactable really as npcs. Next playable race will most likely be Maormer tbh. Especially with all the Maormer content we've gotten/continue to get.

But I digress. I would also like to see some new races pop up on some island somewhere. The Elder Scrolls lore is rife with sentient species and we only ever see the same ones. Where are the Imga, where are the Centaurs, why not add a small island or undersea cove of fox people?

Heck I'd love to have any and all new races they want to add. It's one area of the game I've wanted them to expand on for years. Like with Maormer or Daedra, they're already customizable races in the game, just being used exclusively for the NPCs, so no major reason we couldn't or shouldn't have already had them added to the game. They've only added the Imperial race, and by the logic of the 3 banner war, people should be against the imperials, just like Maormer, yet we're able to have them among us in all the alliances and play as them.

Anyway, I'm pretty hyped about our chances of getting a new race with the new direction/leadership, so maybe it's on the way!
