Tome reward article.

So I just read the new article out out about the tome rewards. It says preview "check out some of the rewards you can unlock"

My question is, why is this not an entirely transparent thing. The general consensus in guild at the moment is that it's uninformative. To fill a 3 month battle pass you'll need much more than the 3 free cosmetics plus furnishing boxes and 5 premium rewards and you only get 1 costume for spending 30 bucks?

For us to have to spend beyond ESO plus for these items, the entire pass should be laid out for us to see. Every page, and the prices for the items. I don't mind getting behind this battle pass, I'm on board. I'm ready. But why hide things? You've already taken pages from fallout 76's battle pass, so take the transparency (the only thing their transparent about lol) Show us everything. I'm curious why this wasn't done @ZOS_Kevin
I'm I the only person who'd like to have an upfront listing of the pass and prices?

I'd appreciate more transparency, absolutely. Personally, I find community written articles to be far more succinct, informative, and comprehensive. I find myself relying on them more than official resources.

I'll give an example with the recent Jester's Festival. ESO Feanor posted this article which clearly tells me the timeframe, what I can earn, and very quickly how I can earn it. Compare that to the official articles, using Jester's again, and there's so much fluff and noise on the site that I can't just find the very pertinent details I need.

Similarly, ESO Hub has very clearly written articles like this, which breaks down what's coming vs. what's released. I'm having a hard time finding something comparable on this site. The survival guides are nice, FWIW, but having a "now vs. later" overview maintained is great. Especially since the rollout of the new features is so staggered, it's hard to keep track of it all.

Frankly, there's so much happening on that webpage that it's hard to focus, TBH. I don't need the crown store ads, the BUY NOW plastered all over. I need to find information - the full story - about rewards and how to get them. I don't want to see a month's crown store announcement be just words and then have to use UESP because they can't provide images of their own products. I'll give them money once I find out what's going on, it's just hard to reach that point.

I don’t think it’s super useful anyway because previews in-game will look different than the renders… however, we learned on PTS that there’s pages that have to be unlocked before they can be viewed and THAT’S concerning.

We did not learn this, there were no such pages on pts. We just thought this because the tome was so small, but that was all there was on pts. I suppose it may end up being true, but we have no evidence for it.

It's very unclear what this +page icon is supposed to represent.

I could have sworn we were told it’s that you spend tome points to unlock further pages but I’m not seeing it so take this with salt and let’s wait and find out. Unless someone remembers what I’m remembering and can find it.

Because my opinion on seeing it was that it was a dev UI thing for how they add pages to it so I must’ve read it somewhere… grah, the forum needs better searching tools. Maybe it was just a theory and I’m misremembering? Anyway, thanks for calling that out, don’t want to spread misinformation…

This is a big concern. This is why when I saw this article not clearly laying out what is in this battle pass just 2 days away, I really felt the need to say something. My hope would be that more than a couple people would be concerned enough to speak up. Zos has done a decent job of communicating and some transparency. But my argument is that Tamriel tomes has to succeed if we want the game to continue on as it is. There is no going back to chapters. My hope was that this, beyond anything else, they would be falling over themselves to be as transparent as possible about. Hopefully @ZOS_Kevin has some insights for us.

I know what you mean, that's what we all thought first day of pts. But it turns out there was nothing more. That page was locked but visible. There was nothing beyond it no matter how many tome points you earned. It seems like it was just bad icon selection to indicate a page that was locked, but everything was visible immediately.

So, it would be normal to unlock the ability to purchase in the next page, for sure. It would be abnormal to not be able to see every page and what is on it at the very beginning. It is also pretty weird to not have everything laid out beforehand with pricing. I'd like to chalk it up to they're new at this. That they need to dial it in. Hopefully that is it.

Nobody could ever expect literally every reward to be shown off as a preview. We don’t even get that in the new Crate articles.

But once it releases in two days, we’ll be able to preview most* of it in game.

Now the PTS did have that weird locked page which is dumb and makes no sense - if it’s locked so people can’t preview it, then there’s no impetus to buy it. And it’s not like someone won’t just post the goodies online three seconds after the Season starts anyway.

I do hope they fix some of the UI nonsense we had on PTS though. They changed it so the Tome has a “soft preview,” where the preview automatically starts on mouseover instead of a hotkey. Of course, than means if you mouse off for any reason (like, to rotate your character to be able to actually see the thing you’re previewing, or change the displayed state of mounts or personalities), then it stops. Which made that system 100% useless.
They also changed the purchase from the standard confirmation popup to a “hold to buy,” so I’m definitely expecting a number of threads complaining about the inconsistent UI

I'm gonna have to respectfully disagree. I can and do expect them to show us the pages of the battle pass before hand. This is not like a weird request, in my mind. It's actually pretty standard for MMOs with something like this. Swtor, WoW, fallout 76. These games show what is in the pass (also pretty sad to list the big MMOs and they all have gone to battle pass) I don't think it would be hard for them to post an article with screenshots of every page beforehand so we can see what we're buying and the pricing for the items. I'd argue that helping people make informed choices is always the right thing to do, even if the studio doesn't do it for their crown store showcase.

Maybe I'm expecting too much, but it's something I'd like to see after they really get this battle pass stuff dialed in. Some trial and error is to be expected.

Overall I'm fine with the new system but I am frustrated with the lack of transparency around some parts of it. Every other game I play shows off the full battle pass offerings weeks before it goes live. One gives full preview of all rewards, the other gives a list of all rewards written down and some key previews (like the eso article did). I would rather have the full list laid out in text at least. I feel it goes a long way for player trust and a lot of people are already wary of the system change and eso getting a battlepass.

My other concern is wanting to know what happens when the Tome track is finished. Most battlepasses when they finish will offer you an endlessly repeatable claim of some small type of currency that doesn't break the bank but is nice to have. Given the Tome caches and subscriber bonuses, it is possible someone finishes the Tome track early and we know from a prior comment that Tome points will not rollover to the next tome so I would really like clarity here before I spend my tome caches.

The third thing is if it's like the pts and you can't see future page rewards until claiming earlier rewards it's going to be annoying. I'm fine with you having to claim things in somewhat of an order but at least let us look at everything on the pass and preview things on upcoming pages. Again, I don't know if this is a pts only thing but I hope they listened to feedback on this and it didn't make it to live.

Up to 2000 Tome Points carry over into the next Tamriel Tome, as mentioned in the in-game help menu.

On PTS, the additional page rewards were previewable at all times, but to be able to actually unlock them, you had to earn the necessary amount of Tome Points mentioned on the bottom of the page first.

That's a nice thing for them to do. I do share the concern they expressed. To use 76 as a example, though others are like this, when you reach the end, there is often a bonus page. It will have things on it to repeatedly purchase as you continue to rank up in a season. On 76 there's different currencies, cash shop currency, highest level of fishing bait, consumables, etc. While not a deal breaker, this is a nice way to get folks shooting to repeat the gameplay loop far after the last page.

Oh ty I forgot about that, still a cache in itself has 2k points and I do want to know if there is an infinite claimable or just a hard cap of how many Tome points you need in a season.

I did test on the pts as well with the tome but my memory may be hazy but didn't you have to unlock so many things on page one to see page two, etc? I admit this could be just I've been so busy this year I forgot something.

The problem is the time investment.

The devs have said (source: StreamTeam members in the Discord with the devs) that making articles with everything was a massive time sink - there was one Store Team member whose entire job for the whole month was to… make the monthly showcase. That’s it. As such, with the fact that everyone everywhere is doing three jobs for the price of one, we now get Crown Store showcases that have fewer pictures.

Could they do better? Probably. But honestly we’re not even able to but the tome until it’s live, and the purchase link is on the page where we see what’s in it so it’s not like we can buy it blind. Well, aside from…

No, the normal pages could be flipped through at will, so we could see everything in page 2 without earning anything. It was only the secret last page that was locked beyond earning X points, and I do agree that is a poor way to do things.

The locked page was visible from the start, and it was unlocked by earning points, not spending them, so you weren't required to spend on things you didn't want. Just want that clear for anyone who wasn't on pts and might misread things.

PTS had a small sample of what might be in a tome, so we can't infer from it how many pages, costs to unock, what the rewards will be, and more. It's a shame ZOS doesn't want to be clear about these things before release, but there's no reason to buy early so I guess we'll all just wait to see when it goes live.

I did test on the pts as well with the tome but my memory may be hazy but didn't you have to unlock so many things on page one to see page two, etc? I admit this could be just I've been so busy this year I forgot something.

No, the normal pages could be flipped through at will, so we could see everything in page 2 without earning anything. It was only the secret last page that was locked beyond earning X points, and I do agree that is a poor way to do things.

I'm sure they're showing us the fire, and leaving out either cooler stuff to surprise or snoozer stuff we will buy just to spend points, since only 2k carry over. I take your point, for sure, I just think they could do better. I am of the opinion though, that this is battle pass season 1 for them, meaning the first they've done. I'm sure it will get dialed in, hopefully. The weird UI stuff, the preview stuff and hopefully articles showing us what's in the pass, all of it and it's cost. Time will tell.

Oh thanks Jessica. I appreciate the reply. Like I said, you guys are new to this and will work out kinks I'm sure. It's helpful to the community if they can see, at least, screenshots of each page of the tomes in a thread or article so people can see what's in each page, tier of pass and cost to get the items. The stuff you showed in today's article is cool, hopefully in the future we can get the complete picture.

With it being a completely new feature for ESO, I would have thought the preview article would have went into detail on how it works, what you do, and show a picture or two of the actual tome pages as an example.

I started last year and until recently I had no clue what a battle pass even was. Most the MMO's I had been playing don't do this. I found one of the ones I used to play that had a battle pass system and it seems like it was only meant to try to promote subscribing instead of what ESO is doing with their multiple tiers.

This has not done anything to calm my fears that ESO is going into maintenance/money mode instead of continuing to give us new content to explore.

Ok, I slightly misremembered, my bad.

I still wasn't happy with the lock pts testing the tome but as long as they give a full list to us at the very least before the tome makes it to live I'll be a lot happier with the promotions leading up to future Tomes. We get this for crown crates, it shouldn't be that hard to do it for Tomes too. We don't need pictures of every cosmetic just a list of the names of them for a preview/teaser.

A similar topic was just discussed amongst the guild leader Discord. In general, while ZoS communication has become more transparent (awesome, love it, please continue). It has been very piecemeal and in particular there seems to be staffing shortages related to the marketing side of things (the player experience Stream slide looked like it was made in MS Paint).

Let me be clear - i'd rather have janky and inconsistent communication that is transparent then smooth and clear communication that is marketing BS. That said, I dont think both are that hard to accomplish. A few examples of this I outlined in the Guild Leader space:

If you are not a rabid consumer of every news article and live stream I dunno how you would know the dates at a snapshot, you have to look at the March Showcase and then individual articles that follow to understanding this timeline:

3PM ET on Tuesday, March 31st - 2026 Seasons Direct (in the March month showcase )
10 AM ET on April 2nd - Season Zero launches (not in march month showcase, its own post from 01/07/2026)
10 AM ET on April 2nd Jubilee starts (has its own post)
April 13th - PTS U50 (only said on livestream, no official news article)

Yesterday, we got the April Month-at-a-Glance which does not include the April crown showcase items and the community calendar is not updated to reflect: https://www.elderscrollsonline.com/en-us/community

Another example - the Warrior Wave Bundle Showcase was only 2 days before it released and was NOT included in the March Crown Store showcase, Orsinium 1 day before it was released and it was not included in the December showcase. I get that these crates run longer, but its /crazy/ that you have to go to TWO COMPLETELY DIFFERENT ARTICLES to see basic at a glance information about a singular system (crown stores) and then even when you go to those articles they only include a few marquee items. And this is the norm across almost all of their communication channels.

In short - information is often released in 'controlled bursts' across multiple news articles as opposed to a centralized location and often 'less is more' seems to be the philosophy, when in reality I think most people would rather have more then less. I have a VERY hard time believing that people would dislike there being a centralized calendar, or a list of every tome item, or a list of every crown item. But, maybe i'm in the minority here.

Yes. Exactly this. A listing with prices, screenshots, whatever. I'm actually surprised that ZOS seems to not know we would like something like this. But it'll be a process.

I assume it'll be more transparent once it's in game? Hopefully when we know how the first one works, we'll know what to expect for the next Tome.

While not a part of a guild leader discord, in the officer chat of our guilds discord we often have similar conversations. It falls to us to make sure our members have relevant information. I don't mind doing it, to be fair. I @ everyone and give the info in a funny way or something. I feel they e really failed lately in the keeping the community informed easily area. There's so many changes so quickly, and no in game info at all. While you and I are here on the forums, or maybe reading news articles, many players are not. A significant amount are not. Look at the confusion around daily login rewards and endeavors. Players just logged on to a blank page. There needs to be a better way.

I agree, lol, I'd rather have all the information and have it look like my cat did it in paint from window 95 then go back to what it was before.
