I'm kinda both extremely happy (from pc master race tinkering happiness) and at the same time extremely shocked that I had to mod a subscription mmo to "fix" a honestly broken out of the box experience with the graphics..
1) SweetFx must be used. The colour changes in the presets are subjective, but what it does do generically is apply some sort of filtering (that seems like anios on streroids) that make the textures look magnitudes better. This should be in the base game at least. Just in case.. many people seem to be using the perfection one.. I find this one (vision sfx) much better.

2) Field of View.. The game murders itself many times over by applying the console fov. ESO is crying out from immersion to be playing in fps view and at ~65 degrees its kinda nauseating. I had to download eso launcher.. set the field of view to 110-115 degrees and I LOVE ESO NOW. I explore using fps mode and its such a good experience. Combat doesn't work in fps mode.. its just not effective, but you can mousewheel out just one level and with the increased fov is just too good.
These are large gamechanging differences, and its very slack that these need to be modded in.
ps. In addition I did have to do other things to find fun as well.. if you're also struggling here are some things I can't live without:
- Roll a Templar. This was the last class i tried as i strongly dislike paladins, but its a must here. At least the sorcerer is borked for your first character. I know many people are casters, and this one was a little sad to find.
- Don't play EP as your first faction.
- Inventory mods are absolutely necessary.
- Map mods are also necessary.
Anyways.. fix the graphics and fov.. This turns eso from hovering above average into something close to amazing. Just go and look at the screenshots for the vision sfx preset..
