How are premium tokens and caches of tome points calculated? Seems bugged

msetten

There is some confusion in my guild regarding the amount of premium tokens and caches of tome points that we have received in our accounts.
We have three members that have 6 month recurring ESO+ subscriptions. One person has received 6 tokens, the other 8 and myself only 2. Why? Could it be because my subscription just renewed two weeks ago. Does the fact that I had it this whole year (or basically I've had an ESO+ subscription every month for about 8 years now).

How is this determined? And if it is not correctly applied, how can we get this resolved?

Added: these are all PS- EU players

Please add your platform and server if you are reporting your tokens.

    Some additional info:
I have now heard from three members who all have monthly subscriptions which have recently been renewed and one got 2 tokens, the other two 4 tokens. It all seems a bit random.

Too many currencies, anyway, hurts my head. lol
Why not just have everything pay out gold and cost gold?

For data share/collecting purposes: my yearly subscription renews early January and I received 12 caches and tome tokens when I logged in today.

I'm asking my guild now for their experiences to check if things are ok on their end.

It is based on when your ESO+ renews.

My ESO+ goes until the end of July and I got 6 of each. I had originally thought that it was going to be based on the number of full months starting in March, but it seems to be the number of full months starting in January.

I had an ongoing subscription from December to March, that renewed on March 3rd for another 90 days and I got 5 Tokens and Caches.

So the fact that I had an active subscription in January that just happened to have been automatically renewed two weeks ago should mean those earlier subscriptions wouldn't count?? That would be totally unfair.

Update from early replies from my guild, everyone in my guild seems correct in their allotment but there are some weird edge cases. You can get 1-12 depending on how many months you've been subscribed since January 1st.

I will note that most people in my guild are either 3 month or annual subscribers so we don't have much data for 6 month subscribers so I can't say if those are awarded correctly or not. The other subscriptions are working as intended for my guild's sample size of data.

I got 10 tokens for my annual-subscribing account that renews in October, and 4 tokens for my account that's holding a 3--month subscription that renewed in...February, I think? Just for data purposes as we try to figure this out.

This is one where you might want to place a ticket to get the exact calculations on your account, @msetten. It seems like it depends on when you had your ESO Plus membership. But customer service should be able to calculate that out since they carried out the grant of the currencies. If you have a ticket in for this, we can also ask for more details.

I still only got two tome tokens even though I had a monthly renewal on January 16th, February 16th and March 16th, so it seems like something didn't work right.

I think this token count depends how many months of plus you had or will have in the current year. It does not count for the previous year and billing date is also important it seems.

Coincidentally, my ESO+ came up for renewal today, March 30. I renewed another 3 months a few hours ago, and afterwards I'm sitting on 5 of each. Being curious I look at my transaction history, and sure enough my last 3 month purchase was Dec 30. So because techinally my previous subscription started 2 days before Jan 1st, I'm short one point.

@ZOS_Kevin Is that how it's supposed to work?

I give up. This stuff is so confusing when it's working right. What chance do I have if it's messed up?

I play from elsweyr chapter and from this time i continously have monthly eso+ and get only 3 premium tokens and 3 caches of tome points.
Some guildmates who play much shorter but have longer version of eso+ hav 4, 8 or even 11 points.
If recived amount is based only by what type of subscription players bought recently then that calculation is lame.

    As Kevin i made ticket.

I play on PC, both NA and EU. That information is for my NA side on the accounts. I haven't checked the EU side yet, but now you've made me curious, and I'll go check to see if it's the same.

That makes sense though - if you have ESO+ monthly, then you'd get three by now: one each for January, February, and March. Once you renew for the next month, then you get your next one.

People who are getting more are because they have longer subs, so their renewal lasts longer than that time. Like I said, I got 6, which makes sense since I've had a yearly sub since July so I'll be completing 6 full months from January before I'm up for renewal again. I'm guessing that since my sub does not last for the full month of July (it ends two days before the end of the month on the 29th), that that is why I didn't get a seventh.

I checked my EU side, and have the same there as on NA. So my data is as follows:

PC-NA and PC-EU, Annual Sub, Renews in October: 10 Caches of Tome Points and 10 Premium Tome Tokens
PC-NA and PC-EU, 3- Month Sub, Renews in May: 4 Caches of Tome Points and 4 Premium Tome Tokens

These both sound correct to me from the rules of subscription token backlog. It's supposed to count every month starting January 1st.

Not saying there weren't errors, but want to add a bit more info to support tomofhyrule's post. My understanding is that they gave you however many full months there are from January 2026 until your renewal if you have a multi-month subscription.

My wife & I are both on annual plans on PC/NA and Xbox/NA. My PC plan renewed in February of this year, so I got 13. That's one for January 2026, and then 12 for my 12-month subscription renewal in February.

On Xbox/NA, my renewal is scheduled for May 2026. My account there got 4 for the 4 months before the renewal (January-April 2026), and then I'll get 12 when it renews.

On Xbox/NA, my wife's renewal is in November 2026. She got 10 for January-October 2026, and will get 12 when her account renews.

On PC/NA, her renewal is in May 2026, so she has the same as my Xbox account; 4.

The caches are just currency, right? There isn't supposed to be anything in our inventory, because I've seen references to opening them in other threads.
My PC plan renewed in February of this year, so I got 13. That's one for January 2026, and then 12 for my 12-month subscription renewal in February.

That's exactly what I got - 13 of each. I had a 3-month sub in November that I changed to annual in February. So I got 1/1 for January, and then 12/12 for the annual sub that went into effect in February.

The caches are to give you points for a given tome, to be used at will. Essentially a "skip ahead" mechanic.

Each tome uses tome points, which you use to buy stuff from the tomes. You earn tome points by doing little Endeavor-like tasks. But if you really don't feel like playing much in a season, you can just cash in your tome point caches to get the points without doing the tasks.

You open caches, but they are not in your inventory. Just like you open crown crates that aren’t in your inventory.

You cannot open any caches today, since the Tome isn’t accessible. You need to open a Tome’s UI to open the cache and get the points.
