I don't understand how they could make it so all platforms will log into the same servers yet still keep separate progression for each platform. Would that even be possible, technically speaking?

They aren’t doing that. Cross-Save means you carry your save wherever you go.

Like what if there's a hardcore RPer who started 7 years ago and plays for 3h/day... but they took a name that some console player used on their current server who played three days at release and then uninstalled? Who gets the name? The older one? The one who plays more?

This is my biggest fear by far and it's not even close. Since I play games who address this problem though, I'm hoping this means they find a way that identifies a character via name and account and we possibly have dupe names so also commonly contested rp names like say for example a character named Keira can be Keira (internally id'd as player A) and Keira (internally identified as player B ). It would also make me buy character rename tokens for my characters I was late to getting names for so I can have their actual name in game. My coder friend said to me once that characters do have an internal id that isn't related to external factors like name so this could be done potentially by just adjusting database values with crossplay/merge

My one worry though in that type of system is it could lead to impersonation and other issues which I have faced in the past. I once had a stalker in game who copied one of my characters down to their sliders and made their name in game with a slight difference in spelling and hounded me for months until they got bored and it was pretty unsettling to say the least. But I also wouldn't want to lose potential rp names for various people who care about that, myself included, over a creepy rare edge case.

I would love if we could have duplicate names on the same server to account for this.

After all, each character does have an internal ID (it's a 16-digit number that is assigned at creation, PCNA tends to be of the form 87960930XXXXXXXX), and you have the account name as well. If they're rebuilding the architecture, it would be nice if they made it so character name no longer had to be unique.

Yes, that means that we would not be able to whisper/mail/block/etc players by character name anymore. But we could still do all of those via account name. And besides, we already have issues with people doing the standard names like "IIl|lIlI" or including a lot of nonstandard characters specifically to avoid getting reported, but that still allows you to do all of that via account name.

I definitely have one character I'd rename in a heartbeat. I deleted pretty well all of my characters besides my main right before AWA dropped since I didn't want anyone to get anything awarded to them before him, but then a few years later I wanted to remake my first ever character, the one who I started playing the game with way back... and in that period between me deleting them and when I went to create him again, the name I used was scooped. It really is not cool since that name does hold some ESO significance to me since it was the name of my first ever character, but I had to change it a bit now that I no longer had it.

Yeah, similar boat. I had a templar healer near launch who's name was sniped when I recently remade her but I expected that since it is a irl name that fits in a fantastical setting.

I also agree similar to reasons you mentioned that going by internal id for server merge and letting multiple instances of a name exist is a boon to rp players and the benefits far outweigh the drawbacks.

My other thing is I selfishly hope that they raise the character slot cap for those who have an account on different servers and it means those of us who don't play on multiple servers might get more character slots because I have wanted more for a while. The itch is worse now that I started an ESO based ttrpg campaign and fell in love with the character I made and her sister conceptually and would love to have them in game now. Even if they don't do this, most mmo competitors allow for up to 65 characters zospls

I don't want crossplay. It'll mess up the consoles economy completely. With my console bank account, will I ever be able to afford being in a capitol city trader once cross-play comes? I was in 2 PS-NA capitol traders for a long time without any problem, but I bet the weekly guild fees will go through the roof! For reference, on PS-NA, a spot in a Capitol trader tops out around $25K/week on PS-NA, which you can make in a day by crafting on 5 fully leveled crafters.

From what I can tell from here and reddit, PC is an order of magnitude more toxic. I've found great guilds on PS-NA that run trials at my levels at the DPS I can maintain with arthritis, and I really worry about that changing. Maybe the PS/XBox guilds can maintain their identities? I hope so.
But I was worried that people unwilling to use console add-ons would be left behind, and now you couldn't pry those add-ons out of my gnarled hands! ;)

Having said that, I know it's coming, so my opinion is irrelevant. That's fine.

It will do wonders for the population decline, and that's good, and cross-progression is great!

Hey, just a heads up, while the price of goods will go up, that doesn’t hurt you. If you know it’s coming, you have an advantage.

Stock up your mats from here until then, and sell them for a new mark-up cheaper than PC, but vastly more than Console and you will start day one with the same kind of money a PC player would have, likely more.

Many of my friends have been doing this already.

I can also say that PC is not more toxic than console as I play both PC and Xbox. On PC you have a lot more opportunities as people rely on text for pick-ups, where on console if you’re not in a guild, good luck running non-Crag Veteran Trials.

All in all, it’s going to be a good thing, and I would recommend preparing for it if you’re worried.

    Does cross play mean that the world will be 100% shared? Like same guild traders?;

I feel like the console trading guilds might be at a huge disadvantage, some of those traders are expensive, and it seems like PC has more gold floating around

Wouldn’t be a bad idea if bids were skipped week one and the traders were first come first serve. Might be annoying if some random guild snagged your favorite spot, but it would be 100% fair.

This would be an interim fix to the problem you’re talking about, as a console guild would be able to make enough sales week 1 to compete.

So one thing that hasn't been talked about a lot in these threads is the obvious botting problem on consoles (dozens of characters following a scripted path, killing enemies and collecting resources), there are many posts on the ESO subreddit over the years, with a very recent post from this week. How would it be possible to fight against it if crossplay is available?

They've already been dealing with it, it's a lot less common than it once was. I won't say it's gone but it's nowhere near as bad, I haven't seen any for ages

The only way cross play would eork is if they looked at the average active pc player currency and grossed up the console players' currencies by the differential. So if pc players tend to have twice as much gold/tel var, etc. console olayers would have their gold doubled. A decade of add-on advantage is real.

I have a feeling cross progression is only going to go one-way. I mean, even though consoles now have access to 'some' mods, once those players get on PC and have so many more mods available, I don't think too many people are going to be jumping back and forth.

I have a PC account and play there to play with my daughter. My main account is on Playstation which will continue to be my main and I'll continue to play on console because that's what is convenient for me. I don't have room for a desktop computer so play on my laptop which doesn’t perform as well as my PS5. Cross prog will let me catch up on dailies when my hubby is on the PS or watching TV and be portable when I'm away from home. I won't need my PC account because I'll be able to play with my girl anyway.

Believe it or not, there's plenty of people who aren't that bothered by addons, and play on console because they want to play on console. Maybe your perspective is PC and addons is best but not everyone shares that, and playing on console is a choice people have knowingly made.

I'd rather just see them combine XBox and PS. There are too many things not fair about combining them with PC. PC people have gold in the trillions beyond consoles. They've had add ons and farming bots for years. There is no way anyone on consoles would ever be able to compete for the Guild traders against PC, let alone the prices that would be appearing in them.

I did not know this. How is that going to work if you have different housing setups on different platforms, or different characters on each platform?

Is it going to let you log into the account with the progress of your choosing, such as having access to your Xbox and Playstation logins from the same place, or is it going to merge everything into one login for any of those platforms?
    Soarora wrote: »
Wouldn't make sense to not have cross progression with crossplay. I feel like if anything, that's a major point of having crossplay.

The point is to have more people to play with, not necessarily to play with the same progress from any platform. I was under the impression that Crossplay was being added solely to boost player numbers for platforms with low population, anyway.

Knowing that Crossplay also comes with Crossprog complicates things a lot. Who is going to get ownership of character names or userIDs if they won't be separated by platform?

Get rid of this unique character name thing. It's a royal pain the backside anyway.

My question is, will I ever be able to play my PS account on an Xbox or my Xbox account on PS? I have substantial time spent on both platforms. My guess is no, because of the respective stores (Microsoft and PlayStation) in which the game and content is purchased.

Or will I potentially be able merge accounts? I also doubt this is very viable but would be cool.

I assume I may be able to play one or both of my accounts on PC, correct? I’m not too fussed about this, though, since I don’t really plan on buying a PC any time soon.

No I think that is the plan, they've said cross prog will come at the same time - tho we don't yet know if it will be a merge or just letting us log on to any account on any device. You've already got the first stages with the xbox play anywhere thing coming
