Contracting Lycanthropy and Vampirism Options

You should be able to be 'infected' by ANY werewolf or vampire you encounter (like previous Elder Scrolls games). It's annoying to have to run all over Bangkorai/The Rift/Reaper's March at night looking for specific werewolves and bloodfiends. Not everyone wants to be 'turned' by another player (roleplay choice). For people that don't want to be infected, should be given a toggle in gameplay menu (chance to be infected with Lycanthropy or Vampirism on/off). For people that do want to be turned that way, the option will still be there.

The upcoming update already fixed this. There will be NPCs you can just walk up to and get infected.

I remember in previous TES games you could be turned to a vampire by consuming vampire ash (a product left behind after killing them). Happened to me once. :#

Previous TES games were single player game environments where it's easy to avoid getting infected should you not wish to. ESO is an entirely different environment where facing a horde of wolfies or vamps is commonplace, and getting infected every time you do so would just get stale very quickly. So changing it from previous TES implementations was likely intentional by design.

Like I know that upcoming update fixes that and allows you to become an werewolf/vampire by quest, I also agre that you should be able to infect by any werewolf and vampire enemies in the overworld. Not players, because I like the idea of shrines and rp, but mobs, bosses in the stroyline, world bosses etc.

Agreed. ZOS can even add in Potions of Cure Disease (seen in previous TES games) to cure the initial scratch from werewolves and vampires, to make it easier to keep yourself uninfected. This is a lore-friendly alternative to using the cure in the Crown Store.

Which is why I said there could be a toggle on/off option. Or as @Erickson9610 stated, be able to make cure disease potions like the other games. They could also implement shrines that cure you.

    Two things....

1:- The priest in the Mages Guild only charges 790g to cure you, so cheap and lore friendly.

2:- I wasn't aware you could do this but currently I have two characters that were infected with vampirism in the wild, I chose to not do the quest immediately but not to cure them either. Several months on the infection still shows on the character sheet but my characters show no sign of the infection.

For some roleplayers, it makes a meaningful difference how their character contracts vampirism in game. If the story idea for that character is getting infected by being bitten by feral vampires in the wilderness, just walking up to some friendly npc and getting it through dialogue (or even through the store, for free or not, or from another player character) is not a viable substitute.

I'm not completely sure what I'd consider the best solution, but I agree that the chance/risk for infections in the wilderness should be higher. Either have the infective vampires spawn more often, or add a small risk to all vampire npcs.

Of course, easy ways to get cured should be provided for people who don't want vampirism on their character. I'd also be fine with a toggle.

Cures will either be essentially free or little cost starting next week.

As for bites and infections. Its really as lore friendly as it gets. In TES games its rather harder to get vampirism or werewolf forms than it is in ESO. The mobs do spawn in enough quantities to be infected and be lore friendly.

In Skyrim you can be turned into both vampire and werewolf due to actions of npcs. So asking a fellow player for a bite is lore friendly.

@wolfie1.0. It's REALLY easy to get vampirism in Skyrim, Morrowind, and Oblivion. You have several areas that spawn vampires. You get hit by melee (or vampire drain spell in Skyrim), you get infected. Don't cure within three days and you're a vampire.

Sadly, the only way in Skyrim to become a werewolf (without mods) is to join the companions. I think with Morrowind Bloodmoon there was a quest or you could be attacked by a werewolf and be infected that way.

When you average it out though its easier to become a vampire or werewolf in eso.

Thats mostly due to the limitations on werewolves. DLC via morrowind, just plain not an option in oblivion, and quest/faction locked in Skyrim. There are npc options to become a vampire in all 3 games. I will note though that once you progress to a certian point in the games main quest in morrowind you cannot become a vampire by contracting the disease. This severely limits your statement that its easy. And you can get to that stage of the game without becoming a vampire pretty easily.

Meanwhile you can become a vampire or werewolf in eso by either mobs, quest, or an existing player.

They also made changes to the Bloodfiends to make it easier to come across them in the wild and get bit. They removed the night time requirement so they spawn more often

While a toggle would be preferable I wonder how many more this game can handle for every conceivable option that can be dreamed up. The list is getting quite long.

Also, I’ve been playing Oblivion Remastered and that is one thing I really hate about the game. Log on, go to the first delve, get a disease within the first battle or two, then have to go get cured. Every single time. Not fun.

I just hope the quest is lore-friendly, like she does not just bite you and suddenly your a Blood Scion, like there was this whole entire lore reason only Lamae Bal could turn you and she created the Blood Scion, why would you NOT want to be turned by her even if it was harder as getting a full transfusion from the OG Vampire makes you a pureblood but this Vampire here at the quest turning you would make you a dirty second generation.

The new quests just send you back to the original quests. You get a werewolf/vampire bite from the NPC when the screen goes dark, and the NPC tells you to go to the original shrine to take the portal. Lamae Bal and Hircine are still the ones to give you the corresponding curse.
