Erickson9610 wrote: »At first, I wanted Skill Styles for the Werewolf Transformation skill, because Skill Styling was a new system that could finally allow us to customize how we look. We don't have an in-form Ultimate, so what else would Skill Styles for that skill change?
However, it's been some time since then, and I believe ZOS should do werewolf form customization right. There's a lot of customization that the human form has access to — costumes, polymorphs, skins, markings, and so on — and I really think this is the most preferable way to go for Werewolf.
Skill Styles for Werewolf Transformation would essentially be "presets" for how we could've customized our character had we access to more in-depth tools. To elaborate, we couldn't manually choose our eye color, fur color, tattered clothing (if any), or markings like scars or war paint if we were restricted to the Skill Styling system, which only allows one Skill Style to be active for a skill at a time.
I still think we'd be able to use "polymorphs" with or without Skill Styling the Werewolf Transformation skill — the most obvious candidates are the skeletal and undead werewolf models, then any other werebeasts if/when they're added. After all, the human form can use polymorphs to override their other cosmetics, so a similar menu for customizing Werewolf would do the same thing.
All of this is to say that I think Werewolf Transformation Skill Styles should be for a new in-form Ultimate, while the actual cosmetic customization of your werewolf form should be done through a menu similar to the appearance menu for the human form. This would allow Werewolf players to have more in-depth customization than Skill Styling allows, while also allowing them to potentially get an in-form Ultimate in the future.

But we absolutely need some fur colors at the very least - color should not be tied to the morph you take. After all, it should be obvious enough which morph you have based on if you have pets or not.
I definitely think though that a couple of “premium” polymorphs for some of the most common werebeasts we have actually seen in previous TES games would be really good to get in game (and sell really well, hint hint): wereboars (playable in Daggerfall, and even stronger than wolves) and werebears (enemies in Skyrim’s Dragonborn DLC, and uses the same skeleton as wolves so mods allow them to be playable)

I wish we had the option of having grey fur, since we only get to have brown fur:
That being said, I hope ZOS lets you play as a brown werebear some day. I know you've really been advocating for it, and I trust ZOS to do it right — I expect a "werebear" style to have bear-related SFX and animations, as we've come to expect from premium Skill Styles or Polymorphs. ESO's werewolves can do wolf-related things like howl, so at the very least an audio swap should be used there.
To my knowledge, these are all of the unique models and texture swaps that use the Werewolf animations:
There's brown, black, grey, white, and "dark black" textures that use the Werewolf model, and then there's the undead and skeletal models that also reuse the animations.
These options alone are what I'd consider to be a starting point for Werewolf form customization. I do wonder how many of these textures will be adapted to the new model, or if the new model is able to reuse existing textures.
What I would like to see is support for choosing our fur color (since our cosmetic appearance is currently tied to the combat system) and also letting us choose our eye colors, adding markings, and so on. I think back to the character customization menu for Worgen characters in World of Warcraft, which let us customize either form in the same menu:
I would spend a lot of time customizing my Werewolf form if I was given the tools to do so in ESO. The character customization for Worgen in WoW is pretty much the biggest draw of that game for me, and I resonate with the people who say that the lack of customization options for Werewolf in ESO is a major disappointment.
Even werewolf mods for TES V: Skyrim (such as the Moonlight Tales mod) allow you to swap the fur and eye colors independently, which, while relatively basic compared to WoW, opens up much more room for roleplaying and expression, while still staying in check with the art style of the game:
And — for the record — I'm not saying that ESO should be WoW. These are two entirely different games with different lore, art styles, and target demographics. What I am saying is that ESO should use the systems it already has (Head/Body Markings, Skins, Polymorphs, etc) to give us in-depth customization options. Skill Styling as it is wouldn't give us enough options.

I myself really love werewolves and those in TES lore are probably the best version I ever run into. I recall that back in middle school, friend of mine tried to convince me to play Skyrim by telling me about werewolves in this game x3
I also would spend a lot of time on customization of my ESO werewolf look. Back when my beloved guild was alive and we had our rp sessions, my ww had very specific look that I would like to recreat, if we get proper customization system ^^

I am only here because of the playable werewolves. That's genuinely the only reason I play TES games, actually. No other franchise does it better, in my opinion.
I really hope ZOS doesn't consider it to be a waste of time to give Werewolf players more customization. There is a demographic of players who would enjoy that, and I know I'd personally spend money on it if it came down to it.
Though, I am encouraged by all of the new or returning Werewolf players as of late! I think the announcement of the upcoming Werewolf refresh, particularly the new model and the promise of combat updates, is doing a lot to bring Werewolf players into the game.

I don't think they would consider it a waste of time so much they have to juggle how much to invest in it versus other things. Yes, this game has a lot of dedicated werewolf players, but it also has a lot who are more casual about it or don't have any/care about werewolf at all. Of my 20 characters, one is a werewolf. While I want better customization for him, I don't want it at the expense of customization for my other 19 characters or his humanoid form. I do think we will get more customization for werewolves and other things related to it such as werebears/wereboar/changeling forms/etc, but I think they also need to be aware that these are not cosmetics that will impact all of the playerbase the way something like a new motif would. I hope this makes sense. I'm not trying to be discouraging so much as trying to suggest managing your expectations. We know their team has some logistical limits right now and they already mentioned in another thread that some feature requests have to be weighed against the request of other features (I think it was from the voice chat thread). It's unfortunate, but also they may choose to give us skill styles and other lycanthrope reskins in the short term and open up more options down the line when the team has more resources for it potentially.

I agree that probably we won’t receive as much as we want, because of the limits, and fact that ww sadly aren’t the most important things in the game. Yet I’m hopeful that they will do decent job with it and give us something more than just skill styles.

The team wanted to chime in on this conversation with some additional context. For the U50 Werewolf Refresh, we are not considering custom cosmetic markings, adornments, or other such options. However, what is currently in discussion is allowing players to pick their fur colors, regardless of morph choice, using the Skill Style system. The release date for fur color Werewolf skill styles is still TBD as we weigh this effort against other class refresh efforts.
New were-models, other than the female Werewolf, are not currently being discussed. New models require new rigs and animations, all of which have a significant impact on memory and performance.

Will we get the main 4 colors (brown, white, black, and the NPC-exclusive grey) as Skill Styles? Something like this mockup I made a while back:
If so, how would we acquire these four? Would we need to complete content (such as completing Werewolf achievements) to earn these styles, or would they be unlocked by default? Would they be put behind a paywall?
If we get new Werewolf Transformation Skill Styles in the future that are not one of those four colors, can we expect werewolf NPCs in the world to also use those new textures? Can we expect to only be offered "natural" fur colors/patterns (ones that we would expect a wolf or werewolf to have in nature, like a "timber wolf" fur pattern), or would more outlandish styles be offered as well?
I think it would be really cool if the first Werewolf Companion we get in the game has a unique fur pattern that we could ourselves get as a Skill Style for our own transformation.
Thank you again for your insight!

These are all great questions that the team does not have answers for at this time, but these topics are currently in discussion. We'll share more info as it becomes available.
Am I the only one who thinks people are getting way too carried away with customization demands? I'd be happy if we just get some basic color choices. White, grey, brown and black. And this is coming from a pretty hardcore werewolf player

You choose your character's sex obviously.

Something I already decided years ago. Who may now suddenly get a model change on their werewolf form I don't like.
