honestly for general gameplay, the power difference are irrelevant

i still have a pure class stamplar who doesnt use mythics that can still output good enough dps to do vet dungeons without much issue

the only time those power differences even matter at all is if your doing like HM trials/trifecta content

Nah, rather than nerfing subclassing, I prefer seeing pure builds strengthened so there is a wide selection of builds a player can use and still feel a satisfying amount of power/utility etc.

The problem is outside of a few broken combos, a lot of cool thematic subclassing builds are about the same power as monoclass builds right now. The broken outliers are already getting addressed with moving around skill lines to have less specialized power like they do now and that should go a long way to fix the problem.

The goal should be to have monoclass and subclassing at about equal power. I have characters who I prefer as both and want to see all my characters thrive at all levels of play, not feel like I can't play them the way I want to if I want to get my achievements and clears.

No. They are giving Class Mastery passives to Pure Classes soon. That's good.

Also, another alternative is a simple class passive rework, following a pattern where each class skill line has:
-2 unconditional passives
-1 passive that requires slotting a skill from that line on the current bar
-1 that stacks based on the number of skills slotted on both bars from the *base class of the skill line*

That approach would make the fourth passive significantly stronger for Pure Classes, and offer another control hook for the devs to tune the gap away. They could also make things that enhance "Class Skills" (such as the Class Embodiment bonus in IA or the unique 5% Solar Barrage buff) only apply to the base class (wherever that's not already the case).

Certain skills should require base class for full power to break up busted combos.

So I said it then and I say it now: they should've thought through subclassing far more carefully before releasing it.

But now, as someone mentioned above, they're already doing this whole class rework and class mastery thing in response to subclassing so there's no point in making different changes currently that would likely conflict with what's planned.

But beyond that point, subclassing should not be nerf hammered back to where nobody would even use it. They've made this balance mistake too many times in the past. Regular classes should be made more attractive and adjustments should be made when subclassing leads to broken combinations, such that there is a wide variety of good options that are fun to play. A blanket nerf like what's suggested would honestly not be sufficient to tone down the broken combinations, but would render most other subclassing combinations even more useless.

Generally speaking, No, at least not now with the class refreshes/reworks and class mastery passives.

Specific overperforming abilities and combinations should (and hopefully will) be adjusted during the refreshes to be more in line with where things should be.

Agree, i don't think majority of subclass builds would notice a nerf from not running a pure class

They need to make pure classing have something that subclassing doesn't for it to truly offset the power discrepancy, and while the class mastery closes the gap some, it definitely isn't the solution to this entirely. Either introducing a new ultimate only available when pure classing, or a unique buff thats not just a damage increase. Some sort of utility is what is needed down the road, once all the classes have been updated.

That said I don't need pure classing to be 100 percent as good as subclassing rn, just making the pure class builds viable again will keep me playing longer. Probably the thing they should focus on is breaking up the combos universally used by most subclass builds, like every other player using streak is really annoying for one.

No. Players should not be capped, or penalized stat wise just because they wanted to stack something. I despise critical damage cap for this reason.

I think we should not be asking for nerfs or anything similar until all of the classes are refreshed and class mastery passives are set in stone.

Class mastery is not going to make up the difference for even a single subclass skill line. My pure stam warden was hitting 100K on the dummy and once I swapped one skill line for NB assassination I immediately shot up to 112K. If I added the Sorc storm calling line to my build as well I could likely gain another 8-10% damage on top of that.

Some of these subclassing lines are just way too good for raw damage output. Unfortunately content that has been added has also followed the same curve to keep up with the power creep and would need to be adjusted as well. I do t think the devs have time to rebalance everything and there is no putting the inflated damage numbers back in the bag at this point.
