Tales of Tribute

For a game that is supposed to be rng the game is rigged that some of us lower players get placed against leader board guys with a guaranteed loss. Not sure how that is rng but fix the stupid matchmaking cause it should not be that way.
  • Rayzoric_Umbra
Also to add to it the fact we get dc'ed and receive a penalty for it after dealing with ui errors and since on console we can't even record the bug nor screenshot the error codes. It's almost not even worth dealing with any aspects of the game as whole since it's nonstop dc's on PSNA at times not just for Tales but in content as well.

Are you talking about the ranked mode?
  • Rayzoric_Umbra
Not just ranked. I'd be in Quicksilver and they would put a player already on leaderboard against me.
  • Rayzoric_Umbra
Casual unranked you queue up and immediately it's also usually a leaderboard person that stopped so they wouldn't lose points and swapped to casual. Game just deals them every card catered to them 100% of the time.

There is no matching by rank in casual. You get the next person in line.

It's my understanding that if you are playing ranked mode and still in Quicksilver (climbing to the leaderboard), you would not be matched against someone who already finished Rubedite. You could be matched with a better player, but, as far as I understand, they are just climbing to the leaderboard and did not get the leaderboard ranking for this month yet.
  • Rayzoric_Umbra
No, I mean a person from leaderboard in ranked would end up paired against me in casual when they queue after they stopped with their ranked runs. Unfortunately I've ended up against people on leaderboard far too often while in Quicksilver, the matchmaking on Playstation is just horrendous. Honestly makes doing the daily for exp not worth it since you only get exp with a win unlike bg's.

In casual there is NO matchmaking by rank. You are just playing against the next person in line.

Edit: when I get an opponent in casual who is at the top of the leaderboard I simply concede, switch toons, and go play ranked. This way I'm not wasting my time on a game that I would loose with a 99.95% probability and would not get matched with them in the next match.

The point they are making is that once you reach the leaderboards in ToT (e.g. top 10%) , there is very little incentive to keep playing. As each loss has a chance to remove you entirely from the board. As a result, once someone makes the top 10% they often 'switch' to playing casual.

Because Casual is 'first available' the casual pool often has a disproportionate amount of incredibly skilled players who are playing for fun but dont want to lose their rank (i'm one of those players). As a result, we end up absolutely crushing most newbies.

There is no other way for skilled players to que for games without impacting their rank. In short, the ladder system is poorly designed, as is the casual system. That said, I highly doubt we have ANYTHING related to ToT coming down the pipeline anytime soon, but I would love to be wrong.

The op's conjecture that skilled players get better cards is actually simply not correct. Skilled players simply understand that ToT is not totally RNG, there is something going on in the back end related to how cards show up that encourages card combos. You can see that discussion here: https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/683196/tales-of-tribute-is-beyond-beyond-rigged

And they play appropriately. Most skilled players have learned this 'intuitively' by playing, but there is a good bit of actual discussion on it by top-tier players. @Personofsecrets can probably share more on this.

The thread started with the statement that there is some wrong RNG with matchmaking in casual. So, I replied that in casual there is no such thing (you get the next player).

I completely agree with you that playing casual does not mean unskilled, and that there is really no incentive to continue playing after reaching 10%. So, people switch to casual. I've done the same thing myself when I was going after the 10% boxes (I do not actively chase them anymore).

I do not really see what they can do to prevent new/inexperienced players from being matched with the leaderboard players unless they change the massive loss of rank when loosing a game. Unfortunately, just like you, I do not see them making any changes/additions to ToT in the near future.

The design team could remove the casual play list.
    Rest in Peace:

This commemoration is for the class that has constantly been plundered and dismantled by designers for no obvious reason while other classes continue to have coherent skill lines and feel both powerful and cool.

They could, but I think that without adjusting the loss of rank on defeat that would make a lot of players stop playing completely. It's natural for people to prefer a carrot over a stick. And right now the stick is simply too big to ignore it.

If the game were RNG then you'd have just as much chance of beating them as not because the outcome wouldn't be based on skill but on chance.

Anyway, I'm not sure it has enough players anymore to have skill based matchmaking. They obliterated the rewards and never fixed the most complained about decks so even those of us who initially enjoyed it aren't playing it as much anymore and it was a niche activity from jump. I think ideally it would have had skill based matchmaking but Idk if it can anymore just like they fumbled BGs.

If they're on PS5 they can. PS4 and they're outa luck. Which console they're on though... <shrug>

But yeah.. That's what I usually do.

Yeah, but it doesn't keep past gameplay footage in a buffer like the PS5. They'd have to have the forethought to begin recording before it happened. Unlike PS5 where you can tap share, select save video clip, select last 5sec - 1hour.

IIRC PS4 saves the last 15 minutes by default. But unlike the PS5, hitting the share button ends the recording and then it doesn't save it. So, it's really easy to accidentally wipe out that last 15 minutes and have to start with a new recording, which was fixed with the PS5.

    To sum this up:

Open up the share menu and press options to change your Share button settings to your preferences. Personally, I use one press for a screenshot, two quick presses to start a new recording, and a long press to open the menu. I'll use those preferences as a default for the rest of my post.

*If you want to save your last 1-15 minutes of gameplay*

-DON'T start a new recording or leave the game to open the capture gallery.

-Press the share button for whatever option you've set it to that opens the share menu (either one press, two quick presses, or a long press).

-Press square to save your last 15 minutes( default time) of gameplay into the capture gallery.

-You can also upload screenshots, video clips or start broadcasting from here.

*If you want to take a screenshot*

-Just press your screenshot button. i.e. mine is set to one press.

-Any screenshots you take during this gameplay session will appear in the capture gallery and also in the share menu under "Upload screenshots".

*If you want to start a new recording*

-Press your default recording button. i.e. mine is set to two quick presses.

-The recording symbol should appear in the upper left right away.

If i got anything wrong please correct me, but that should be the jist of it.
