Is it possible to swap names between two of my characters without having to spend three tokens?

Name1 → TempName = 1 token
Name2 → Name1 = 1 token
TempName → Name2 = 1 token

Just for context, I normally play one toon for all roles, but last year I finally got fed up with my NB being lackluster in most of them and swapped to an Arcanist. The NB is from launch and has my preferred name, so I’m trying to see if there’s a cleaner way to move names around.

No. I did it once, but support only let me have one name change for free because one of the character names contained a symbol which had caused people problems before. Like using í instead of i But in general, no, you have to use 3 tokens.

This is one of my favorite features in Path of Exile's account management system. They're free too.
It's not even really an edge case scenario. Lots of people want to swap character names. Shouldn't require multiple tokens.

You could find another similar name for the NB to free up your preferred name, then you can do it with just 2 tokens.

That's what I did when I wanted to move my original name between accounts. I think I added an extra L to the name I was least attached to.

Still not ideal, but short of deleting characters it might be the best way

Don't forget there are a lot of special characters you can use. For example.. Ī Ì Í and Ï are all variations of the letter I. And can add a bit of flavor.

Of course this would result in you having two characters with near identical names.

If players were allowed to have duplicate character names (including sharing the same character name as another player's character) then it would only cost 2 name change tokens instead of 3.

Not sure if we'll be allowed to have duplicate character names when crossplay/crossprog happens.
