The logic behind the Battlegrounds timer.

I have a very, very stupid question about Battlegrounds:

So, I’m playing in Overland and I queue for a match. A message pops up asking "Ready to join? (30s)". I click "Yes", the game pulls me out of my gameplay and teleports me into the Battleground. But then, I’m stuck with a "4:30s Waiting for players" timer. When the timer finally ends, I get teleported right back out because there weren't enough players to start the match.

Could someone with a "galaxy brain", like the ones who designed this system, please help me understand: Why the hell am I being teleported into the Battleground to wait for 4 minutes, only to be kicked out? If the teams aren't full, why does the game pull me in and make me wait for no reason at all? Shouldn't we only teleport inside once the teams are actually complete?
Please, help me understand the genius logic behind this system..."

Let's wait!

You are asking for a rational explanation for something completely irrational.

These new battlegrounds were seemingly cobbled together in a rush without much, if any, thought, planning, testing or player input or feedback. Then left to die like most pvp content.

The only thing they changed was allowing a bg to start without all the slots filled and gave a 5% damage buff for the team short the player (another thoughtless quick hack job)... read into that what you will but it says to me that they know they couldn't get bgs to consistently fill and they gave some junior dev a week to come up with something so their new bg numbers would look better on paper.

They still haven't even fixed the werewolf avatar issue...

And it is telling that this format is still closing because they can't get enough people to fill a queue.

You will likely not see a change to queue timer... At least they are giving us three teams back for some period of time. So there's that...

My point here is about being teleported into a BG without a full team. For example, when we queue for a dungeon, the game only pulls us out of our activity once all four players are ready.

But in Battlegrounds, you get teleported inside and ZOS makes you wait for others to join. If this was a smart move, I really want to understand it. Because I can't think of anything more crazy or devoid of logic than that. I truly want a "galaxy brain" like the ones who thought this would be fun: "Hey, let's teleport them and make them wait. They'll love it!" Come on... -.-

Right. And my point was you wont find a point because you are trying to find a rational reason for something irrational. Likely cobbled together to meet a timeline. That is it.

Well... This is ESO. A game where nothing makes sense and rational reasoning was forgotten a long time ago. Okay, I get it... just more of the same.

So, I get it's annoying but I am assuming it's to deal with the problem of if you accept it early and wayshrine/port around, there is a chance you bug out and are not pulled into the instance and unlike dungeons you can't just manually port in when that happens. I took a break from playing when battlegrounds were first introduced so someone who actively played then will have to confirm if that's the case but it's the most likely reason.

I do agree it's frustrating/annoying to wait around that long, especially if you're one of the first to load in. They could honestly imo give us a better "lockerroom" area for battlegrounds where we could maybe do some idle stuff while waiting for things to start or as some mentioned a way to adjust a build when you load in. My current bg character has a dps and healer build and it would be nice to queue in first and then swap if you have no healer or too many on the team.

I dont play other games, but a few folks have suggested a free for all during the waiting time. I dont k ow exactly how that might work, but it sounds more fun than standing in spawn listening to people spam their instrument playing emotes.

The U50 Battlegrounds has a relatively limited population which means that queue times can run quite long.

This frequently means that someone may have hit to queue in and then got involved in something else so they ended up declining the queue when it actually popped.

ZOS allows a match to launch without having everyone accept because waiting to have 16 people in queue accept at once could lead to lots of failures to start the match. I've sometimes gotten annoyed with dungeon queue cancels back to back to back and that only involves 4 people having to say yes.

At low population times in the U50 ZOS will sometimes fail to find enough players to meet the minimum number for the match before it aborts but, in non-U50 matches away from low times the fails are less common since ZOS made some tweaks.

Yes this can happen sometimes. My only guess is that at least 6 players (3 v 3) have had the pop message appear, and a few of them have decided not to join, with those who have decided to join being teleported into the BG.

And yes, like a dungeon, an icon should appear and you should only be teleported in once enough players have accepted the invite.

Listen, BGs have loads of issues that need fixed (MMR, respawning, etc) and we can only hope they will be fixed at some point in the near future.
