Let us spend a soul gem to rename equipment

It could be something only we could see like with the pet names and then if we linked it then everyone would see the default. It could add some fun roleplay. Not a high priority thing obviously but in the single player games we could do stuff like that. For example, imagine after we slayed a dragon we could name our sword Dragon's Bane. Or if you killed someone for the Dark Brotherhood, you could name the dagger Nazeem and toss it just out of reach of the Cloud District. Or whatever we wanted.

The unfortunate truth, it’ll never happen cause we’d see an abundance of linked swords in chat with grotesque inappropriate names. Neat idea otherwise.

That's why I said just make it only visible to the player like our pet names. I figured this is why we didn't have it at launch since it's such a common Elder Scrolls thing.

Fallout 76 does this, don't see why ESO couldn't/shouldn't. In 76 it's entirely client side, but that also means you don't really have to moderate it at all. If someone names an item something offensive - boohoo, only they can see it.
