Most efficient way to farm purple companion gear?

SkaiFaith

If I want specific pieces of purple companion gear, is there an efficient way to farm them?
Something like a guaranteed drop for completing a VHM, for example, or whatever else.
I know there are IA boxes but is it the only way?
They are rarer than unicorns on traders, and more expensive too.

EDIT: I'd like to understand if any kill has the same drop chance or it changes depending on difficulty of the fight for example, like, is it better to go kill tons of mobs or is it better to farm a VHM dungeon?
If it comes more frequently within coffers, is it better to farm daily quests?
Is there any insight available on this?

pretty much everything outside of the infinite archive is almost purely RNG, theres nothing you can do to alter the rarity of the companion gear drops

basically its use the infinite archive rotation vendor to buy specific types of purple companion gear
or run around with an active companion and pray to RNGesus

i think bosses (dungeon bosses/WBs/etc) tend to have a better drop rate of companion gear than trash mobs, but rarity is not affected by difficulty (so running normal or vet will not increase chances to get purple companion gear)

the most time efficient way to obtain said gear in the traits you want is to buy it from other players and guild stores.

The most gold efficient way to obtain it, is to grind it out by investing time.

Reality, indicates that a mix of both is for a stable mind.

Better places? Everyting with bosses on it, specially public dungeons because they have quite a few bosses in them. Just don't kill those bosses within 5 minutes from each other to make your run more efficient.

It is all rng, the best time is events that have coffers that give companion gear. I used to run IA with a companion. Just having a companion out all the time and checking all the kills. Purple gear isn't rare, it is getting it in the right traits that is the issue. That is why it is expensive, especially tank gear in quickened and vigorous.

If you Google for easy ways to make tons of gold in ESO, you are likely to find some pretty recent and efficient tips.
With that in mind, it is easy to just buy purple comp gear. Most interesting traits have come down to under 200k per piece.
And figure out what you want. Exactly want. Most information on companion builds is outdated and only some threads here in the forum give good advice.
Like for example, a DPS build is better with five to seven shattering instead of 12 aggressive traits. And much cheaper too!

Wait, what? Are PC prices really that low? I've seen a purple Vigorous going for 1Mil on console, and prices range around 400-800K for stuff like Aggressive and Quickened.
If PC prices are really that much lower, and I guess more readily available on traders, I want crossplay now! XD

Difficulty level has little (if any) influence on the drop rate. I'd go so far as to say that it has zero effect, but I'm not a ESO Dev, so I couldn't possibly know for certain. They can drop from anything that drops loot, and is not instanced (like urns, wardrobes, desks, etc..). Though heavy sacks seem mto be the exception as they are not instanced, but don't drop them either (as far as I know).

More monsters you loot, the more chances you get. I've seen purple companion gear drop from the most minor of kills. Heck, I've pulled purple companion gear from Wasp Nests in Craglorn and Steam Vents in delves.

Just make it a point to keep a companion out at all times no matter the activity (except when in towns, be polite  ), as companion gear only drops when you have a companion out.

Yeah. Sort of. The listed prices are sometimes as high as one million, but nobody buys it.
Most wait until a reasonable offer pops up.
TTC and Master Merchant have statistics that offer you insight into which offers get purchased and which do not.
Ever since TTC added the information for "avg. sold" the picture has become quite clear. There are some players that offer insanely high and that influences the average offer prices, but not the average sold. They basically gamble on a gullible fool that doesn't know what's what.

For better understanding what you need, please consider studying this thread. It is very good and comprehensive.

usually if its less than purple on PC its almost not even sellable (occasionally popular traits may be 500-1000g for blues, greens the best will be like 200g if theres even sales data)

purples can range from 1000g to like a couple hundred thousand, depending on the weight of the armor and the trait, personally i havent bothered with any of it, while you can min max companions, generally speaking if you slap whatever traits you want on them they will perform like 80% the same (meaning they will still be useless in a lot of dlc dungeon content due to the mechanics and die even with 100% optimized gear for the build they are going for)

for non dlc stuff they should be fine even without optimized stuff in most cases, and overland it really doesnt matter what they are wearing unless your trying to make them survive WBs (still may not be possible due to some WBs aoes lol)

you have prices... way off. blues can be 10k-30kg on very desired traits/types, and the good purples go into millions, usually around 3-6m max for the ultimately desired perfect rolled traits on perfect pieces, with sales avg/data on those. But yes, greens are valueless and just sell if someone is walking by the shop and needs a quick item.

Anyways, for bind on pickup - most efficient is IA.

For anything else... just... take a companion into a normal dungeon with you and kill everything and hope something drops, dungeon bosses tend to drop them more often for me at least.

The most efficient way to farm purple companion gear? Sure, I can help you out:

    1) Farm gold instead
    2) Buy gear from Guild Traders

It may seem glib, but it is the most efficient way. The RNG is terrible.

thats data that ive seen registered as actual sales in some of my guilds

a lot of cases i have little or no data for companion gear because it doesnt sell very often in a 30 day time period

i dont usually get enough companion gear worth selling, or seek to buy companion gear to really pay attention to the prices

if i really wanted companion gear at purple quality i would literally just go straight to the archive vendor and buy a bunch of boxes (5-10) and likely end up getting what i wanted unless it was a poor RNG day

I used to be able to find blue vigorous companion gear for cheap on PS NA, but lately the greens are all 10k and the blues are 30k. I never buy purple, blue is really good enough for even my IA runs.

I keep a few storage chests in one of my houses that I put pieces that drop in to have companion gear handy when I need it, but I rarely see purples drop and when they do it is an undesirable trait.

Companion gear are basically random drops/rng outside of IA coffers, so IMO, if you are after purple gear specifically, I'd farm the crap out of IA, stock up on fortunes, and check the vendors on a weekly basis.

But I personally don't really use companions. I find them to be not that useful in the kind of content that I want to run, and they're mostly an annoyance. But I have a really good, tight-knit guild and I'm never lacking for bodies to do content with most of the time.

I’d rather not, I don’t really enjoy IA, I just get currency for leads.

Most of the content I do - PvP and trials, I cannot use a companion anyway. I’d rather just buy what I need if I don’t get lucky with a drop.

I have used tank companions all in blue for years and I often said they are fine. I have also never golded out my character's gear, kept it purple, and was good enough.

After so many years I am deciding to max the gear just for the satisfaction. I'll gold my gear after Warden class rework, but I started purpling my companions last year and I got two full and two lacking the same single piece which seems unfindable after months of checking all traders 3 times a day.

The IA way seemed a waste of fortunes to me so I never tried it, but traders aren't providing the missing pieces, after having allowed me to get all the others XD
Guess I'll have to be patient a bit longer... (Farming bosses in the meantime)

IMHO, farming IA for fortunes to buy the coffers is an exercise in futility. The cost of the coffers versus how long it takes to farm the currency, compounded by the very low probability of getting the piece of gear and the trait you need, just isn't worth the time investment and the frustration it brings along with it.

It'd be faster to farm gold from a PD and buy them off the traders. And even then there are better methods to farming gold.
