With that in mind, it is easy to just buy purple comp gear. Most interesting traits have come down to under 200k per piece.
And figure out what you want. Exactly want. Most information on companion builds is outdated and only some threads here in the forum give good advice.
Like for example, a DPS build is better with five to seven shattering instead of 12 aggressive traits. And much cheaper too!
Comment added to OP: I'd like to understand if any kill has the same drop chance or it changes depending on difficulty of the fight for example, like, is it better to go kill tons of mobs or is it better to farm a VHM dungeon?
If it comes more frequently within coffers, is it better to farm daily quests?
Is there any insight available on this?

Wait, what? Are PC prices really that low? I've seen a purple Vigorous going for 1Mil on console, and prices range around 400-800K for stuff like Aggressive and Quickened.
If PC prices are really that much lower, and I guess more readily available on traders, I want crossplay now! XD

usually if its less than purple on PC its almost not even sellable (occasionally popular traits may be 500-1000g for blues, greens the best will be like 200g if theres even sales data)
purples can range from 1000g to like a couple hundred thousand, depending on the weight of the armor and the trait, personally i havent bothered with any of it, while you can min max companions, generally speaking if you slap whatever traits you want on them they will perform like 80% the same (meaning they will still be useless in a lot of dlc dungeon content due to the mechanics and die even with 100% optimized gear for the build they are going for)
for non dlc stuff they should be fine even without optimized stuff in most cases, and overland it really doesnt matter what they are wearing unless your trying to make them survive WBs (still may not be possible due to some WBs aoes lol)

you have prices... way off. blues can be 10k-30kg on very desired traits/types, and the good purples go into millions, usually around 3-6m max for the ultimately desired perfect rolled traits on perfect pieces, with sales avg/data on those. But yes, greens are valueless and just sell if someone is walking by the shop and needs a quick item.
Anyways, for bind on pickup - most efficient is IA.
For anything else... just... take a companion into a normal dungeon with you and kill everything and hope something drops, dungeon bosses tend to drop them more often for me at least.

I keep a few storage chests in one of my houses that I put pieces that drop in to have companion gear handy when I need it, but I rarely see purples drop and when they do it is an undesirable trait.

Companion gear are basically random drops/rng outside of IA coffers, so IMO, if you are after purple gear specifically, I'd farm the crap out of IA, stock up on fortunes, and check the vendors on a weekly basis.
But I personally don't really use companions. I find them to be not that useful in the kind of content that I want to run, and they're mostly an annoyance. But I have a really good, tight-knit guild and I'm never lacking for bodies to do content with most of the time.
