Dragonknight in Layman's Terms Please?!

So... I do not do that weaving stuff, skill rotation stuff, any of that crap. That is just too complicated. I PvE and use a one-bar build and press buttons on three skills that are not on cooldown because that is how I can play. Will someone please be kind enough to explain to me without all of that mumbo jumbo crap about "procs" and "crits" and "dots" and whatnot how these changes are going to affect me?

Thank you very much!

The new casual DK: press the button for Engulfing Dragonfire. Watch things burn. Repeat.

Proc - something happens that’s not you pressing a button. This can be the 5th piece bonus of your set going off (if it’s not a flat damage boost), your enchant applying, etc. The only DK-specific proc would arguably be stacks of whip considering people call nightblade’s bow stacks “bow proc”.

Crits - critical hits. The more critical chance you have, the more often they happen. There’s a cap of 125% critical damage. Almost always you want to build into critical damage. If you have damage numbers on in settings, you can see when you crit because the number will be orange and have an exclamation mark.

DoTs - Damage over Time (no idea why we don’t capitalize the o as well). This is anything that continues doing damage after the first hit (like DK’s talons or destruction staff’s wall of elements). Damage is either Damage over Time (DoT) or Direct Damage AND Single Target (ST) or Area of Effect (AoE).

As to how the changes affect you, that depends on what your build is exactly. If you’ve not subclassed and you’re only pressing 3 skills, then you’ll probably only see an animation change.

If you have seen this green lazer skill people use that melt everything, new DK has also same thing but in a cone and orange. It ramps up damage if you hit anything but will always do maximum if you use Take Flight ultimate before breathing.

There are ways to charge that Take Flight faster, but if you want to use just 3 buttons and dont want to learn anything new, the raw flame puke will be enough for all overland stuff.

Engulfing will become the channeled cone (breathe fire for several seconds) the others are talking about. The other morph is a burst cone (breathe fire for a second). Since you already use leap, this should actually just make you stronger.
    Dragonfire Breath (originally Fiery Breath)

Decreased the duration to 10 seconds, down from 20 seconds, and increased the damage-per-second by 50%. This ability is now a Stamina ability at its base.

Disintegrating Dragonfire (originally Noxious Breath): This morph now deals Flame Damage, rather than Poison Damage. It remains a Stamina ability and continues to add Major Breach while applying the respective status effect (now Burning) to all enemies affected by the initial hit.

Engulfing Dragonfire (originally Engulfing Flames): This morph is now the rework morph, which costs Magicka instead of Stamina. This morph now channels the flame attack in front of you over 4.8 seconds and deals 20% increased damage when it hits an enemy, up to once every second, and up to a maximum of 80%. While Take Flight is active, this deals maximum damage. The damage is considered direct damage.

Eruption will no longer deal damage. You already have minor heroism from oakensoul and healing from structured entropy, so you should probably swap Eruption for something else.
    Hearthfire

This ability and the original Cinder Storm morph now grant Minor Fortitude and Heroism to allies inside the area, rather than slowing enemies’ movement speed by 70%. We increased the radius to 8 meters, up from 5 meters, on all versions of this ability.

Fire Keeper (originally Cinder Storm): This morph continues to increase the healing effectiveness by 50%, but now only does so if the caster is inside the area-of-effect. To make up for this, however, it also causes Minor Fortitude and Heroism to stick to allies for 15 seconds after being healed.

Hearth and Home (originally Eruption): This morph no longer reworks the ability into a damaging effect and instead remains a healing effect. This morph continues to reduce enemy movement speed inside the area by 70%. This morph now also grants the caster Major Protection while inside the area, to help the ability be more valuable to tanks.

Your other skills should function mostly as you expect, just with an animation change.
