Two-handed Animation Refresh Needs a Refresh

I like the new animations, but they don't feel good. A large weapon like the two-handed type needs heft. It needs to hit hard. It can move quickly, but the new animations have taken away the impact of the hits. Two-handers should feel like they take strength to use and the reward is a heavy hit.

It would also be great to have the weight and use of aces, mauls, and greatswords be reflected in things like carry and weapon stance, but can we address the animations like DK was addressed?

Do you assume the Vestige wields strength only on par with a regular person? I know my Vampiric Vestige certainly doesn't, why would they be swinging weapons slowly as if the weight was too much for them when for them the difference between a one-handed and two-handed weapon would be barley noticeable.

Even if you do assume that, how do you explain the lighter impact on your enemies in both feel or impact and sound?

I disagree, the 2H gameplay feels much better now. Sure the weapon trails are a tad bit to bright. But the animation itself are far better especially for Uppercut, stampede and momentum. I want them to fix the LA/HA animation, to make them look less floaty and light and make animation cancelling look less jank. Other than that i like the new refresh for the most part.

New ones are way better imo. I actually feel like my character looks skilled with their weapon, not a caveman with a club.

New attacks looks like those Skyrim movesets where player character jumps and flies in a flurry of flashy effects, while bandits in dirty furs try to fend them off with vanilla attacks

Maybe devs will change NPC animations too, so that they all swing their weapons like some epic swordsmen. :/

My issues are the lack of impact and that they mainly work for greatsword. The animations look kinda weird if you're using an axe or maul.

Also why does everything need colour FX! They are weapon skills, I'd prefer no glowing nonsese for them, or very subtle. Least of all do I want obvious orange light which will not fit most of my characters who uses two handed.

That's actually a very solid response and it makes me feel better about it. I could still do without the light effects, but this helps. Thanks!

People have no idea how lightweight 2H weapons are.

As someone who has handled legitimate Medieval weapons when I interned at a museum, I can tell you from personal experience that a greatsword is a hell of a lot heavier than a longsword. And it does not swing the same way, either.

Put it this way. A mid-sized sedan and a bus can both go fifty miles per hour. However, they sound and feel significantly different when they hit a person. It should be the same way with weapons. Heavier weapons need more impact on contact. And frankly, the same thing goes for one-handed weapons. A mace shouldn’t hit the same way a sword does.

Furthermore, again with the overly pronounced weapon trails and glowy effects. If I wanted a weapon that glows on every swing, I’d play SWTOR and twirl a lightsaber. It’s the same thing that spawned a massive thread full of complaints here on the forum when they first changed Spec Bow to make the weapons glow while it was slotted. God forbid you also use any morph of the Tome-Bearer’s Inspiration skill. I’m not Doc Ock. I don’t need the sun in the palm of my hand.

Agree. They also do not fit other weapon types besides a sword.

They don't look good to me because this isn't a Japanese MMO. I think the tracers should be toned down at the very least and the SFX should be tweaked to make it feel like your contact isn't light.

    PC-NA 2019-2022, 2025-present

ESO still needs a better combat dev team. They're bad at their jobs.

Barely anyone says they need to be slow and heavy, OP and others are even saying they can be fast, but it's missing impact and heft on the hits. Getting hit by weapons hurts and is often stagggering. Your targets shouldn't behave as if you wacked them with a big feather.

The skills look too much like they come out of a Final Fantasy game and why do they have a wet sound to them? Otherwise momentum looks good.

I think the one I will miss the most is reverse slash. The old animation kept it feeling like an execute. The new reverse slash is the main one that is underwhelming in my eyes and kind of blends in too much with the other skills. I looks more like just an ordinary attack move.

I’m just worried about the winter skill style for stampede/critical charge. I sent a report in, but it’s gone from this nice light blue and somewhat subtle to bright white and blaring. It hurts my eyes.
