ESO Lottery System

In light of the recent lottery craze with mega millions, I was thinking how awesome it would be if the developers added a lottery system to ESO. Basically, players can buy a lottery ticket at the bank for 100 gold each. Players can only purchase 3 tickets per week. The bank will display the current jackpot. The lottery would be hosted by Zenimax each week and the gold would be deposited to the winning player during regular maintenance hours. Each faction would have their own separate lottery system on the megaserver. Zenimax would take 30% cut to keep inflation in check to maintain a healthily economy. Thoughts/Opinions?

I think EQ2 had something like this, except it was an instant roll every purchase, slot machine style. I don't really remember hearing how that worked out for them as far as an inflation check though.

Might run a foul of internet gambling laws, it would have to comply with American, Canadian, Mexican (inside North America so it's laws apply equally), EU, and any Non-EU European country since it has NA and EU servers.

Not sure if it technically has to comply with laws from other countries that have players, but if it sold to those countries (rather than those countries importing) it would.

Not against this, but I wouldn't gamble either.

if in game currency and it has no value - it wouldn't be an issue
    - however with people trading and selling stuff for real dough it would run amok of NorthAmerican laws

Last time I checked the game's gold wasn't a real currency.

Last time I checked, real world gold wasn't a real currency. It still has a specific real world value and exchange rate though

i am pretty sure that he meant in game gold, not the real one... so no law matters here

EVE Online already has something like this, in fact a few things like this. They are run by third party companies and to be honest are very popular. One of which was actually indorsed by CCP (EVE creators). The only question is how do you feel about third parties having API access. Personally I'm not in favour of it.
The most obvious way forward with this would be for Zeni to somehow integrate gambling/lottery in with the upcoming Thieves Guild content. Seems kinda obvious that gambling would be something a guild of thieves would be interested in !

It is exciting and great idea but i think there are different rule sets applying to different countries regarding to gambling, they can lose some countries' access when they trying to implement such a system.

Law won't be a problem if we're gambling with virtual money that can't be traded for real life currencies. Some Arabic countries are iffy about it, but for most of the world it's not an issue. Bethesda even published a game with gambling in the past (New Vegas).

It does affect the age rating, but ESO is already rated M, so it wouldn't change anything.

I would not mind lottery... might even buy ticket or two from time to time when the grand prize gets high enough... who would not want 1 million gold.

Though gambling in general is decease for some people and as immersive ESO can be they can develop gambling problem in ESO too which then would possibly lead them using real money to buy game money so they can gamble in game.

Which is why you would be better keeping the bet price low (maybe say 1 gold) and the win amount low. So basically its nothing more than a bit of fun and a few minutes distraction. A bitt more 'fluff' for the game and at the same time adding a little bit more depth. Like I said Thieves Guild and gambling hand-in-hand !

Love gambling. We could bet in Oblivion, we could bet in fights here! Yes, yes I know a lot of duels would be rigged but is still fun. We can gamble about everything, bet pieces of equipments in duels, etc, the possibilities are endless. We have skooma for god's sake! Drugs in the game. Why not gambling? It's like that story of is allowed to kill innocent old women but not children.

Irrelevant, ask Turbine, Blizzard, Square Enix and any number of other games developers who all have massive legal problems devising such things so as to not fall foul of some asinine law in some EU country or other. None wanted to give away real-world cash, they were all in-game items.

Often the solution is that such things are only open to NA players, or maybe NA plus a few specific countries .. I recall once Turbine had to exclude Canadian players in one of their contests.

how about a counter offer, no tickets, lottery chances is determined by how many characters past level 20 you have, randomly select a certain amount of characters with active subs. Give them a reward, gold/pvp points/ palomeno horse/ or maybe some cool special item, or like a bunch of treasure maps.

If those games can implement gambling in some form, why not ESO?

That's slightly different, that's a guaranteed bonus, only the content is variable, thus may not count as gambling from legal standpoint.

How long ago was D&D online?
Any details on how GW2's gambling worked, because if it's clear cut enough, and was available to all, then it would be proof it's doable.
